    YouTube...You Rant

The internet seems to bring out all of the Negative Nellies. Most people, (unless they follow a forum like us) don't think of posting success on the internet. Really, the band has to work the majority of the time and not have a huge complication rate or insurance companies would not be paying for it. They are all about the bottom line. Thankfully, smart people like you and me can read between the lines and not believe everything we watch or read. I figure the people who don't realize that, may be the people who wouldn't be very successful with WLS anyway. Good blog!

    Not sweating

I have a friend who's husband never sweats. It has something to with his sweat glands. He was active and never had a problem. I would just be sure you hydrate and don't overheat.
  3. Did your plantar fasciitis go away? Mine just went away about a month before my surgery. I had it in both feet for four years. It was debilitating. Finally found a pair of nursing shoes that cured me. I'm hoping that losing weight and eating healthy will help keep it away in the future.

    Book on self sabotaging

It's hard. I just reached 50 pounds lost, and I've been having a really rough week. I don't know if it's because we lost an hour due to daylight savings or because I've changed around a few medications. But my workouts have sucked and I've been fighting wanting fattening foods. I just do my best to keep with it. I so want to lose 80 more pounds more than I want to eat pasta or donuts. But I feel your frustration.
  5. I've had cortisone shots in my feet (before I was banded). I have a hard time believing it does not affect you systemically. They are known to cause high blood sugars and I even missed a period because of mine. But, I think it would be ok with your band. One note, I had a strange reaction to cortisone that my doctor did not warn me about, called a steroid flare. For three days I looked and felt like I had a sunburn. Just wanted to tell you in case it happened to you. The only thing I can think of, is that if you were to get a fill while your body was still under the effects of the cortisone, you might not have the inflammation that sometimes comes with a fill. Once the steroid wears off, you could potentially feel a change in the band. Best wishes! My shot made me feel great for about 3 months.

    Working out

I started at about 4 weeks. Maybe just do the treadmill and don't push too hard at first. Keep at it though. Exercise is the best!

    Could use some help

You are fine. I too had the same experience with my first fill. I felt like I had less restriction than before. By restriction, I only mean that the band makes me eat slower. It doesn't really control quantity, just reminds me not to eat too fast and to chew my food. Yes, if food is coming up, you're either not chewing enough, eating too fast, or can't tolerate that food. Slow down and give your body time to realize you're satiated. Not full! Just, not hungry. As far as protein, meat and protein bars are far from the only sources. I eat super healthy delicious foods and never worry about my protein. Lots of veggies have protein. I lay off the carbs and sweets. I track my every mouthful on MyFitnessPal. I'm losing great. I have weeks where I lose only one poundand weeks where I lose six pounds. Patience. You'll be fine!

Depressed, discouraged. No Weight Loss, Hungry, Help!

I feel this is where lap banders split and take a different fork in the meal...I mean, road. Some patiently wait for the green zone, meanwhile not losing or sometimes even gaining. The others basically diet during this time. Low carb or low cal, high protein, watch portions, etc. Neither one is the right way. You have to do it your way. You were just banded in January? Your progress is impressive. Plateaus happen. Maybe do something to jump start. Watch your calories for a few days or start exercising or increase exercise.
  9. What about your blood sugar? Are you diabetic? I would definitely call the doc today.
  10. You are getting some great advice from the people who posted responses before me. We all want you to be successful. And honestly, if you don't somehow change your lifestyle, you won't have the big success you want with the band. You may lose weight, but if you're still eating high calorie, fatty foods, or too much food, at some point you will stall out and become dissatisfied. I suggest you keep track of what you eat in MyFitnessPal. And be brutally honest when you put your entries in. It will open your eyes to what you're really putting in your body. It sure opened mine.
  11. Comment: I've been enjoying seeing posts from the General Weight Loss forum in the Recent Topics section on the right. I'd like to keep it. Suggestion: when you click the My Blogs link under someone's name. It would be nice to see a list of recent posts to that blog. And/or at the bottom of the blog post have a link to read that person's previous post, etc.. Kind of like on blogger you can choose newer post or older post.

    fill and gas

I have a theory that the tighter that band gets, the less air can escape upwards and come out as a burp. I hardly burp at all. Therefore, the gas must go down and out the other way. I have been much more gassy since my band. But, I'm eating so healthy it doesn't really smell like it used to. Sorry if that's TMI. Lol.

    Port sizes?

I have never heard of a 7.5 band either. I have the 10cc from Allergan.

    Personal trainers

Most gyms will have trainers they can match you up with. Do you know what gym you want to join? I would visit several. Some gyms can be kind of meat headish. My hubby joined us to a large gym. I would never have chosen it. It is nice though, and they offer lots of group classes too. Big gyms can be intimidating. There are lots of small ones out there. You may want to join, learn how to use the treadmills and ellipticals and just work on cardio for a bit before you spend money on a trainer. But if you feel a trainer would really help, then do it. At the gym I go to, the more days you see one, the cheaper it is. My hubby sees one once a week and it's $40 a session. You can do less too. Best wishes!
  15. I just took the stairs to the 4th floor of the parking garage at work instead of taking the elevator. Am I becoming a healthy person with healthy habits? What is happening? Oh yeah, AND I passed on eating no bake cookies at the meeting right before I left.
  16. How did you lose the weight before? Did you exercise? Watch calories? Did you ever reach the green zone? Maybe a good place to start would be a visit to the surgeon. Could you get a fill? I think that just coming on here and showing interest is a great start. Make small changes every day. And go see your doc.

    Hair loss, when?

I'm three months out and I've never had this issue. I don't think everyone does. I do take Biotin which is found in the vitamin aisle. It is supposed to help with hair and nails. I can't tell. My nails still break all the time from hand washing at my job.

    It is what it is

I love this post, gowalking. We do have to enjoy ourselves. And then we get right back on track. It's about learning balance. That will keep us happy and successful long term.

    Rant!

She's probably just very excited about her weight loss and doesn't realize that she's being inconsiderate. Maybe you could address the issue tactfully and say something like, "I'm so happy that you've had such quick success, but I too, am happy with my decision and my success so far. Your support means so much to me." She'll probably get the picture and realize she's not been a good friend. Unfortunately, sometimes we start to feel powerful and judgemental of others and forget how we struggled before. I'd give it a try and if she doesn't change her tune, you might need to see less of her.

    Incisions/Scars

The scars usually fade over time to where they're barely visible. If the surgeon told you you could do it that way, then go ahead.

    1st Fill

Call your doc to see what they want. Mine says no solid food for three hours prior.

I went out last night with some friends and didn't feel like the fattest person in the bar. I felt fairly "normal." It felt great.
  24. I went to see my PCP today. The last time I saw her was in April of last year. I felt that I'm ready to start getting off of some of the meds I'm on. I went a couple of days ago and had labs drawn and then had a full physical today. She was thrilled that I had gotten a lapband and was losing so much weight. My labs were all great except some of my lipids (though they had improved). She wants me to start taking fish oil and asked me to take a specific brand. So, adding a pill to the regimen. BUT....she said I could stop taking Metformin! WooHoo! And to start cutting my blood pressure pill in half. She wants me to take 4 or 5 BP's at work and call her in a month with the results. If they're still good, I can stop the BP med. I've also been taking a anti-inflammatory for my feet. My feet have been a lot better in the last six months mainly to finding an awesome brand of nursing shoes. I've had debilitating plantar fasciitis for 4years. She said I could see how I did with not taking it. My last prescription med was a pill for my stomach which I probably need only beacuse of the Metformin and the anti-inflammatory. I'm gonna keep taking it for a while though. I'm going back in 3 months to make sure everything is still going well. I'm very excited! I'm thinking about all of the copays I'm not going to have anymore. What to do with that money.....?
  25. Wow! You're doing great. I was amazed at how good food tasted after coming off the liquid diet. Things I always ate and thought were okay, now are so delicious and flavorful. Keep up the good work!
