I stopped counting calories, is that bad?
Leepers replied to Hellbent's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I am counting calories for now and learning how to eat healthy. I don't plan on doing it forever. I'm thinking once I hit goal, I'll try to start trusting my choices. -
I don't eat back my exercise calories. I did find, after a while, that I needed more calories as my exercise intensity increased. I wasn't having good workouts. Felt sluggish. Now I eat about 1200 a day, but I make sure I get in my exercise.

Gaining slightly during a stall
Leepers replied to SparkleCat's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think as we get thinner and it becomes a little harder to lose, that we should expect fluctuations like that. I didn't lose for 3 weeks, got my period and lost like crazy. Now I'm back to no losing. And sometimes it all has to do with the #2! If I don't go, no losing either. Lol. I do let myself get miffed about it too, but I know I shouldn't. You're doing great btw! -
I have this problem when I try to edit a post on my Samsung SG4, but only if I'm using the full site.

I feel like I go down a size for 20-30 pounds I lose. My body shape is all belly, no waist.

I know that feeling! It's awesome!

Awesome and inspiring! I have been wanting to participate in a 5K but keep putting out off. Sometimes we just gotta go for it. Congratulations!

Lap band - 26th July 2014
Leepers replied to Nicky Cleaver's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The gas pains took two weeks to go away for me. Longer than most people. But they did and now it's just a distant memory. I had all of those thoughts and doubts and regrets, but they soon disappear too. Focus on eating the right things at the right pace and you will be successful. Best wishes! -
To Drink or Not to Drink - A take on Dr. John Dixon's findings
Leepers replied to JessS's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I do have sips of water here and there with my meals. And I drink up to the point of eating. After the meal, I don't drink much. But if I want a few sips, I have them. I'm not gulping down a 32 oz Dr . Pepper like I used to. I believe you should follow your surgeon's rules. I also believe that we should be up to date on all the latest findings related to our WLS. I work in a hospital, with doctors, and the difference from doctor to doctor is huge. Some do not keep up with the latest findings in their field and some devour every piece of info. Either way, they are probably still much more of an expert than we are. So I follow the rules, mostly, but I'm also not afraid to find what works for me. -
I have been a calorie counter for some time now. I'm thinking you need to take in more calories. I started out taking in 800 to 1000 per day. As my exercise increased, I wasn't feeling so hot for my workouts so I increased my intake to 1000 to 1200 per day. I'm still losing like crazy. 85 pounds is awesome btw!

I think the fitbit is great if you need inspiration to get exercise in. If you're already exercising, it's kind of just a fun toy to see how you're doing.

In need of veteran advice!
Leepers replied to NolansNana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was one of those people who had some restriction from the start. I did get one fill about 6 weeks after my surgery and I totally regretted it. It seemed almost to cause me to have less restriction. It doesn't make sense but.... Anyway, that's the only fill I've had. Sometimes I want another but my surgeon will say let's wait. I do enjoy being able to tolerate most foods. I would wait until you really think you need it. -

Help: Advice From Those Banded 3+ Months
Leepers replied to jlynndh's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I believe (and not everyone will agree with me) that you have to change the way you eat. Just because you can eat like you did before, doesn't mean you should. This is the time that you should be practicing eating slower, taking smaller bites, chewing longer. Start recognizing the difference between hungry, not hungry, satiety, and full. Stop eating when you're no longer "hungry." Using an app like MyFitnessPal and honestly recording everything you eat can really help you recognize what foods are nutritious and what foods are high in calories. Some foods while "healthy" can still pack in lots of calories. The idea of the band is to help you eat less, which means less calories but if you still eat lots of high calorie foods, your weight loss may be slower and/or eventually plateau before you reach your goal. It sounds like you're doing excellent with your exercise and I congratulate you! Exercise is a struggle for a lot of people. I truly believe that in the end no matter what, it's calories in vs. calories out. Best wishes in your continued success! Don't discount all the hard work you've put in so far. -
I eat 2 hard boiled eggs for breakfast. It's 12 grams of protein. Also, you can beat eggs and pour in a muffin tin, add bacon, ham, or turkey sausage, Any veggies you like and a bit of cheese. Cook until light brown on top. Very high protein and easy to heat up in the morning. About one egg per muffin and I use the Reynolds foil muffin wraps because it helps with sticking.

Doc said no fill for me
Leepers replied to CarmenLeAn's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
We are going through the exact same thing. We are very close in weight and weight loss. I too still struggle with hunger and portions. I start thinking, why do I have this band? I feel like it's mostly been mental for me. I get all revved up to tell the surgeon I want a fill but then change my mind or he says he doesn't think I need one. This last time he didn't want to see me for 12 weeks! I see him again in August. The band does help me in that it definitely slows down my eating, which helps me make good decisions about when to stop. I guess I try to see this as changes I have to make for the rest of my life. Fill or no fill. Congratulations on your success! -
Share Your NSVs Here Please!
Leepers replied to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT!'s topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My most favorite NSV so far! I thought I'd never have to be a bridesmaid again, but after a whirlwind romance, my little sister wants a big wedding. So off to look at dreaded bridesmaid dresses we went. It was so liberating to not be the fat girl worried about them having a dress in my size or what it would look like. I was prepared to wear whatever she picked. And....I ended up looking really good on the dress she picked! The picture doesn't even do it justice. I'm the one in the pink dress. The actually dress is going to be blue. -

I went from a 46DDD to a 42DD like overnight. And now the 42 seems to fit around but the cup is too big. Tried to go bra shopping one day but I wasn't in a very good mood and got discouraged really quick. They are definitely deflated. The hubby says who cares and he's the only other person that will see them, so... -

Yes, more info is needed. How many fills have you had? How have you changed your eating habits? Exercise? -

I got my lap band in December and I've been going to the gym at least 4 days a week since January. I always go in the morning and you pretty much see the same people all the time. People keep to themselves for the most part. Today I had my first comment on my weight loss from someone. This little old lady who rocks it on the elliptical. She came up and told me that she has noticed how much weight I've lost. It would probably bother some people but it made my day. I had a little smile for the rest of my workout!

@@bulawookie My hubby signed us up at this gym and it would not have ever been my first choice. It's a little snooty. When I first started going, I was the biggest person at the gym. No exaggeration. But, I figured, I'm not going to let my assumptions of what other people (who I don't even know) think of me, keep me from my goals. The more I went, the less I cared. I started out walking in the treadmill at 2 mph. Now I can do the elliptical for an hour and I've stated doing C25k. Just go! Work through the insecurity. It pays off!

I think a lot of it has to do with age and how long we've been overweight. I carried all my weight in my belly so I haven't had to deal with the dreaded bat wings. My arms and legs are pretty jello though. But my abdomen is the worst. I definitely have jelly belly and hangover. I'm hoping the weights and the crunches will help. And maybe it will take some time for my skin to catch up. I try to lotion up my body after I get out of the shower as they say dry skin doesn't have as much elasticity. Either way, I'm happier being flabby than fat.
