I'm not a snowman...how am I melting right now?
Leepers replied to PrettyThick1's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You look fabulous! -
I was banded on December 18th. I had 2 days of clears then 5 days of full liquids. I never really felt hungry that first week. But I also think compared to what other people have posted, that I have had more postop discomfort than most. Now, in my second week, I am on "blenderized" foods. I do find this week that I am having more feelings of hunger, however it only takes a small amount of food to get rid of the feeling. As far as things to eat on the full liquid stage, it's rough! I really got tired of soups. I was allowed to have things like cream of chicken as long as the chunks of chicken were removed. I pretty much existed on protein shakes, yogurt (no chunks), and juice. I did go to a big deli here in town and order soup and take out all the chunky stuff, just ate the liquid part. Also, I'm over a week out and I am still having occasional shoulder pain from the gas, so it's possible you could be too. Good luck darlin!

I did it! I stuck to the prescribed diet for the holidays. Christmas Day was my first day on my blenderized diet and I was able to eat about 1/4 cup of cottage cheese and 1/4 cup of my mom's delicious mashed potatoes. Everyone else was gorging on fried chicken, biscuits, corn, peas, etc.. it looked good but I was content to eat what I could and just enjoy being with my family. Later that night we went to my husband's family event. I didn't eat at all since I was still slightly uncomfortable after my new food introduction earlier. (Listening to my body!) His family are all overweight. They are great people. But sitting there watching them all shove cookies into their pie hole? It was liberating not to feel compelled to do the same. I made it through! I'm so excited for the year to come!

A whole new meaning to out of body experience...

I have always said I am the opposite of an anorexic. You know how anorexic people look in the mirror and still think they are fat? Well, I look in the mirror and think I'm not that fat. I get dressed and think I look ok. Then I see a pic of myself and I am MORTIFIED. Who is that girl? There's one from yesterday that my mom took. It's awful. You're not alone. -

6 days out and stomach pain
Leepers replied to RitaBonita's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep. I'm 7 days postop. My stepmom made me some pureed squash soup last night. I gobbled it down and ended up with a stomach ache for 4 hours. Fun! -
It's the gas they pump into your abdomen during surgery. It can be very painful. Take GasEx strips or chewables and maybe try lying or sitting in a different position. A lot of people say walking helps.

I know how you feel! I am 6 days postop. This last week has been really hard. I had a little of a rougher time than most other people seem to have with the surgery. I've had a lot of pain from the gas and generally have felt very uncomfortable. I did clears for two days then full liquid up till now. I am soooo bored with the things I am able to eat. I was allowed during this time to have no chunks yogurt and sugar free pudding. Also, the last couple of days I went to Jasons deli and got a couple of Soups and just didn't eat anything chunky out of them. And, I have been super hungry at times. Tomorrow I start the blenderized (puree) part of my diet. I can have some more things. I'm excited. Just keep focused on why the doctors want you to slowly progress your diet. A big cup of warmth beef broth helped me feel full many times. You can do it!

I think that most people who visit this site regularly read enough threads to understand how individualized this surgery and weight loss can be. The people who don't understand are probably the people who just aren't going to "get" the process anyway. In the last month or so since I have joined, I have not experienced any braggery. I think we should all remember that with the written word, tone of voice is left up to the reader and it is the reader who takes away what they want from the words.

25 Days till my lap band

Nothing worth having is easy. Sometimes you hear a lot of negatives online because people get on here to vent. Don't let them scare you off from making a great decision about your life. It's worth it. -
Fell Off the Wagon...How do I get re-started?
Leepers replied to Kathy =^..^='s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Kathy, your fears about facing the surgeon and your primary care doctor are unfounded. Those people would be happy to see someone come back with a renewed interest in their health. Not someone who just gave up forever. The only person you have to face is yourself. You CAN do this. -
Post-op diet (first 4 weeks)

I agree with Karen. I too am eager to advance my diet. However, there is a reason they have prescribed the diet they have. -
Wait....Did I say that?

Bandista! I was checking out your ticker. You are over 1/4 of the way to your goal. Awesome! Now just do what you've been doing, three more times! -
Was that me that posted that thread a few days ago about embracing the preop diet? I'm not sure who that girl is. Well, the preop diet was glorious! This postop diet is suckin! I hate soup! Whine. whine. I hate full liquids. I want substance! And this constant feeling like I need to let out a legendary burp? It's driving me nuts! There. lol. Just wanted to let ya'll know.

I love that you named it Frankensleeve! I was actually considering naming my band Brunhilde. Then I could talk about her. Like, "Uh oh, Brunhilde is pissed off today." Love it. -

I have two days of clear liquid,5 days of full liquid, one week of "blenderized" (nice way to say puree), and then two weeks of mushies. We cam do it. We can get through. Just think of how good healthy food will taste! -
You need to realize that this is a huge comittment. Just getting the band will not make you lose weight. It still requires many visits to the doctor and changing how you view food. Having said that, it is awesome that you've taken the steps toward a new journey. You CAN do it. I wish you much success!

What to expect in first week
Leepers replied to desertpixie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've a little bit of a rougher time. I am four days postop. I've had a lot of gas pain. They puff gas into your abdomen for the surgery and take most of it out before sewing up. It can hang around though in your abdominal cavity and manifest itself as chest or shoulder pain. Make sure to have GasEx strips or chewable GasEx on hand and take them even when you're not feeling the pains. I had a little pain today, four days out, but the last three were rough. I'm a nurse, so my surgeon gave me two weeks off. I'm glad of it. I definitely wouldn't be wanting to go back tomorrow. From what I've read on here, most people have an easier time than I've had. Just take it easy. It will all pass! -
A Christmas Story. Followed by the old Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

A lady at work, her band slipped, (after being in for 10 years and also not using it for 10 years). She said it was extremely painful. So painful, she had it taken out right away.

Quitting smoking before surgery, good or bad idea?

You go girl!! -
I would go to an immediate care center and get tested for the flu. Then they can give you something to combat it.
