  1. I totally had the same problem. That feeling goes away. I will say though, that I really never burp at all anymore. Sometimes little ones when I'm eating. I think the band doesn't allow the air to come back up. So it can only go down. You know what that means....toots! And lots of them! Lol.
  2. The gas is from the surgery. The surgeon pumps your abdominal cavity full of gas to create a dome so he/she will have room to work. They say they try to suck it out when they're done but not all of it is taken out. The gas then gets absorbed eventually by your body. But sometimes a pocket of gas can sit up by your diaphragm where there are a bunch of nerve endings. This manifests itself as shoulder pain. Sometimes very painful shoulder pain. The rest of the gas comes out as "wind." It is temporary and the surgery is worth the discomfort!
  3. Stop by the doctors house and bring him to the hotel too! Don't let anything stand in your way! Lol. Best wishes!

    Weight Loss

I made this recently and it was delish! Zucchini Parmesan Buy a few zucchini, wash, cut off ends and cut in half lengthwise. Lay in 9x13, cut/flat side up. Lightly brush with olive oil. Sprinkle with crushed red pepper, sprinkle with a tablespoon or two of shredded parmesan. Cook on 350 until parmesan is melted and golden brown. I estimate that two pieces is about 180 calories and about 14g of protein. Yummy!

    Weight loss first week

Fruit Loop, I thought the same thing about my first fill. Its almost as if I lost some of the restriction I felt when it was first put in. Like, I can definitely eat faster. Not sure if the doc will give me a second one because I'm losing so well due to diet and exercise.
  7. I think you'll be able to function. Just remember to take your gas ex regularly, any pain meds will help. If you don't want to be stoned on narcotics, ask your MD what OTC meds you can take. I was allowed Tylenol. Drink fluids.

    Carbs are NOT my friend

I was trying to make a high protein breakfast the other day that might hold me over longer on the days I work. It was 1 egg, deli meat, and Swiss on the Pepperidge Farms super thin bread. I even toasted the bread. It did not go down very well. Could have been that it was the morning but I've noticed that most bread doesn't go down well. Rice I'm ok with and I haven't tried pasta. Oh well, I can live without bread.

  12. Once a month I go buy this bag of dog food for my fur babies. It's heavy for me to handle and I always struggle with it a little bit. It is a 30 pound bag of dog food. That is how much weight I've lost so far. I can't believe I was carrying that around on my body. And to think I need to lose about 3 more of those. Wow. LapBand. Best. Decision. Ever.

    Question...

I work in a surgical area. No makeup because sometimes they have monitors they put on your forehead and makeup can keep them from sticking. No fingernail polish because they'll put an O2 sat monitor on your finger and polish can sometimes cause it to not work as well. Toenail polish shouldn't be a problem.

    Double Minded /Confused

You can end up failing at any of the weight loss surgeries. You do need to be prepared to change your eating habits, but I think once you have surgery you'll be ok. It helps shift your mind. You're not gonna go through that just to fail. Plus, as a self pay, I would be even more determined. That's a lot of money. As far as complications, every surgery has potential complications and doctors are required by law to tell you about them. We all went through these doubts and fears. Just keep on keepin on. Decide you will be a success and follow the doctors orders and you will be successful! Best wishes!

    Month one plateau

I was banded on December 18th. I lost a lot of weight on the preop diet and the week after surgery. Since then I've leveled out to about 2-3 pounds per week. And I'm really watching my calories and portions and exercising. You will not continue to lose at at a rate like that. Be patient. I think one week I didn't lose at all. Eat healthy, watch portions, chew slow. You'll be great! Plus, watch for that time of the month. I don't lose the week building up toward starting. Then after the first couple of days, I start melting again.

    Jumping in

I would call to be sure which shakes they want. I wasted a lot of money trying different ones only to be given a list of ones they wanted. Best wishes on your journey!

    Jumping in

Catfish is a UK fan? My hubby bleeds blue too. We're in Louisville, so of course there's a lot of rivalry. I'm not much of a sports person so I'm happy when either one wins. Unless, of course, they're playing each other, then I root for UK to make my hubby happy.

    Share Your NSVs Here Please!

My NSV today: I have to wear hospital scrubs at work. The trim is colored by size. How embarrassing. Well, they go up to a 2X which is pink. And then, because apparently fat people don't want clothes that fit, they skip to brown, which is a 5x. I managed to still squeeze into a pink top, but I was wearing brown pants. Which were way too big. Today I fit into the pink 2X pants! Yay!!! Side note: If it's ok to only provide two sizes for fat people (2x and 5x), then why don't they throw away the smalls and meduims and make them all wear larges? I have always thought this is fat discrimination!

    Is this a good idea?

I took my hubby to a couple of things. I say do it! It's great to have support.

    Lump undneath incision site?

I had all of those feelings. I kept thinking I was tearing one of my incisions every time I got out of bed. It gets better. Just move slowly and carefully.

Vasovagal Syncope ( Fainting ) episode

Catfish, I'm a nurse and I work in Electrophysiology. Specifically we deal with the heartbeat. I also do tilt table tests for vasovagal syncope. I'm not really up on my anatomy but usually the vagal nerve can be stimulated in the rectal area. It could be up near the band too. I've just never heard that. People come for a tilt table test to see if they're having inappropriate vasal vagal response. A condition where your vagal nerve causes your heart rate to drop drastically and therefore pass out. Another reason for passing out or dizziness symptoms could be orthostatic hypotension. When you stand up your blood rushes down and causes low blood pressure which could cause syncope or presyncope symptoms. Lastly, sometimes people's heart just stops beating the way it should. It happens more with age but I've been a nurse in pacemaker cases for 18 year olds to even a 102 year old! You could be having a low heart rate or pauses. This will definitely make a person pass out. This is all from a cardiology view. There are probably hundreds of other reasons people pass out. But you sound just like many of my patients. You could possibly ask to be referred to a cardiologist who specializes in electrophysiology. Don't go to a regular one. Hope this may help and if you have any other questions, I'd be happy to try to answer them.
  25. Ever since my first fill on Tuesday, I have started hiccuping when I get hungry. Usually about 5 hours after I eat. Every now and then, hungry or not, I just hiccup for no reason. It's not a series of hiccups. Just one usually. Maybe two. I tried to do a search but everyone else was talking about hiccups during or right after eating. Has anyone else had this happen? It's not really a problem or anything I just wonder if it may be a precursor to reflux or something.
