I can't seem to find many sleevers who had their surgery more than 5 years ago. Where are you all? I just want to hear success stories from people who have had their surgery many years ago. I've just cancelled my sleeve surgery as I am no longer fully convinced it works long term. I've had a gastric balloon last year and before I got that I was on another forum and everyone said how the balloons worked wonders. Yes, it did work wonders and I've lost over 25kg but have gained half of that back over the last 10 months. Looking back, I realise that I hadn't really seen many posts on the other forum of people a couple of years after they had their balloon out. Now that same thing seems to happen with the sleeve. Most of the stuff on the Internet is from people who have just recently had their surgery. Can anyone help?

Hi Lisa's Hope and Chrissy, I am sorry to hear about all the problems you are having and will keep you in prayers. I've just cancelled my sleeve surgery even though I somewhat doubt that I can loose the weight in any other way. But I just think that if one cuts out over 80% of a part of your body that is vital for survival it'll be easy for problems to pop up. I know we don't need a stomach the size of a football, but nevertheless we are just lacking long term studies on this. I really hope that your problems can be sorted out without additional surgery. And please, don't misunderstand my post as I may well go on to have the surgery in the future.

I've just cancelled my surgery. Was supposed to have it on 22 Nov, but as my research continues I am not so convinced anymore. I just wonder where all the people are who have had their sleeve for 5+ years are on the Internet. All I seem to find on the intranet and You Tube is forums and films which have people who have had the surgery in the last 2 or so years. Now, I know that the sleeve is a relatively new surgery, but even so. WHERE ARE YOU 5+ YEAR SLEEVERS TO CONVINCE ME THAT THIS IS REALLY A LONG TERM SOLUTION THAT IS WORTH IT? Let's proof the medical research which suggests that many/some/a certain percentage gain most of the weight back on AND at the same time suffer life-long complications. Has anyone found any good online source of success stories from 5+year sleevers? Please let me know.

Hi Happy2BMe1 Like you I am a bit worried about the mortality rates for the VSG. However, I have still decided to have the sleeve instead of the band. My surgeon who is one of the leading bariatric surgeons in the UK said that he hardly does bands anymore. They have too many complications and a lot of people need additional surgery. I think the VSG is a good alternative and not as dramatic as the bypass. However, there is still a risk, but hey what's the risk of you staying at 345 pounds. You are relatively young and might not get any problems with your weight, but problems do often come up when one gets later. I've just weight up the pros and cons of doing the VSG vs doing nothing and the VSG won even though I've got very young kids (and I certainly want to be around to see them grow up). In the end, only you can make this decision though.

I've got my surgery on 22 Nov and I am so nervous. But at the same time I can hardly wait to start my second life. I am putting everything into this and have started to write my thoughts down in a diary. Good luck to everyone who's got their surgery in Nov.
