December 2013 Sleevers This Is Our Month Are Yall Ready!?

I don't think anyone has EVER told me I didn't weigh enough!! That rule sounds a bit silly since you started at 41, but I think as long as you keep carbs to a minimum your liver should still be shrinking, even if you aren't. :-) I'm going to try! Thanks -

December 2013 Sleevers This Is Our Month Are Yall Ready!?

Hi everybody, I saw my surgeon for my final pre-op visit today. Surgery set for 17th . I have been on the pre-op diet for a week and I have lost 9 pounds. My BMI was right at 41% before and I weighed in right below 40%. The girl in the office looked concerned and told me that I had to weigh in at 40% otherwise the insurance would not cover. What! No one told me this before , I had already gotten approved with my insurance! So she made me drink water until I weighed in a few pounds more. So now I'm off the pre-op diet except for the couple of days before surgery. Office states I must still weigh in right at 40% or more on the day of surgery! -

New Here, And Question About Insurance Req Diet
Happyaddy replied to nikmenow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some insurances are very strict about not dropping below 40. I have read stories about others who have been denied because of it. -

Hi there, my date is set for December 17th. At first I was excited, but now I'm nervous. I've been on the pre-op diet and I hate it! I have not cheated yet which has surprised me. I just found out last week that my insurance approved the surgery and my surgeon was able to get it scheduled before the end of the year. I have been working on getting my package submitted to the insurance for months and now that I'm approved I feel rushed! My boss was really upset that I was taking time off during the holidays. Also- I've been very open about my plans of getting surgery and 95% of the people that I have told have said " Why, you are not THAT fat?" What does THAT fat mean? My BMI was definitely high enough to qualify. I really don't feel supported by my family or friends. -
They require 3-6 months of diet. My surgeon got all the requirements for me and I completed each task.

Halfbella- I also have EBMS insurance and I was recently approved by American Health Holding. This is how it works: American Health Holding determines if the surgery is a "medical necessity." Once approved, then EBMS will let you know how much of the surgery they will pay. The only way you can be denied EMBS is if you do not have bariatric coverage. My package was submitted on 11/21 and I received and approval today. My surgery date is 12/17. I hope this helps ....
