My insurance is BCBS of Michigan MESSA. I am a little worried about providing a weight loss records from doctors. I haven't gone to a doctor about a my weight loss because they said that even though I was overweight I was still basically healthy and in good shape. What will they do if I don't have a doctors record? What else do they usually ask for? I am going through a doctor who has his own insurance specialist team and can usually get it approved; however, I"m going to be WAY bummed if I can't get the procedure done for another year. I"m not sure I can live like this for that long!

Hi...no I am not in MI and I"m not a teacher. My dad is, he's a teacher in holt michigan. I am 23 and still in school so I am still covered by Messa. I am having difficulties with people in IL because they dont' know what Messa is and as soon as I say BCBS they assure me with a low BMI that I will NEVER be approved. Have you heard? What is your BMI if you don't mind me asking? Mine is a 34.9 and I have joint problems, high triglyceroids, asthma, zero energy, have problems getting to sleep and stay asleep, and have been overweight for the better part of a decade. Is your situation similar at all?

Banded 17 days & anxiety
npubander replied to soaf9's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, haven't been banded yet, but will be in September.Don't worry about the band; a very small percentage of bands are taken out. You cant think of the band as a foreign object that you might piss off, you have to think that is a part of you now. So do what you have been doing, eat slowly, chew well and water load. Its ok to feel nervous and anxious as you have gone through a major life change. Just make a concious effort to live normal and not obsess about the band. Its made FOR your body and to work WITH your body to aid you. GOOD LUCK!! -
Hey guys...I am 23 yrs old and have been obese for 8 yrs now. I am tired of being disgusted by myself, so I have decided to band; however, I do have some concerns. Are there any lower bmi patients? I am 5'6" and 220 with a 35 BMI. I want to get the band done by Labor Day, but since my initial seminar isn't until aug 10th I have a feeling that it won't happen. I have an event coming up Sep 29th and I am reuniting with my old college buddies. I am not a heavy drinker, maybe once a month if that; however, will it be too soon to drink if I am banded labor day weekend? I also have a wedding coming up on December 1, is it plausible for me to be down my first 2 10%'s?? Thanks for your help, I am still pretty nervous about getting the surgery done. I feel likeI should be able to do this without the aid of surgery.

Thanks so much for your reply's it helps so much. Thankfully the wedding is in December so it will be a good 2-3 months after the banding. I am feeling quite nervous. I haven't had my first consultation yet, that's August 10th; however, I have lost weight, which won't be a prob for my dr I'm sure, but my insurance might be another story. Thankfully the doctor I am working with has a team of insurance specialists so they should get it approved. Has anyone had any problems eating spicy foods? Have you lost your cravings for sweets? Right now I am trying to do the whole no eating and drinking together and chewing better so that's one less thing to have to think about after surgery. Thanks again for your replys they are really helping me be less nervous about this.
