February/March 2014 sleevers
Sherry S replied to rebeccasams's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Welcome KS to a great group of sleevers. I have surgery on the 17th and so does Glitter. I wrote in another post the others dates. I'm trying to keep up w/everyones dates. It's exciting, scary and now that we're all here to support each other calming. I feel better knowing I'll be hearing others experiences as they happen. I think we can all relate to thin people not understanding what it's like to be fat. Just loose weight is what I've been told. Right. If I could do that I would be thin. Keep reading the posts. The book The Ultimate Gastric Sleeve is a great book. On Amazon. We all can and will do this. Sherry -

There are 3 of us on the 17th now that KS joined the group. Leigh on the18th and Super Fatty and SaraJane in the 19th. WOw think of the combined weight we're going to loose. We can and will do this ladies. They haven't given me a time yet. I guess the hospital will call this Friday with the time. Eeeek! It's getting real now!! I'm definitely on board for supporting each other. It'll be nice to have someone going through the same stuff. I am hoping I can post once I'm out of recovery. I can't wait to never shop at Lane Bryant again!! -

What time is your surgery? Mine is 2pm the 17th. I wish it was all over. We're all going to have to be support for each other to , cheer each on and also to be a shoulder/ear when we need it. We know it isn't going to be a cake walk but it can help when we have someone who is going through the same thing as we are at the same time (give or take a day or 2). SJ, Glitter, SF and me (Sherry) will be walking that path to health and how great it will be to buy clothes in the normal size section for the 1st time. I hope other people can join in to help. -

I guess it's pretty standard for the sleeve to just stay one night in the hosp. Ins co's don't want to pay anymore than they have to. Someday we'll have drive through surgery. Are you getting excited? I am. -

My date is Feb 17. Only stay 1 night in the hospital. Anyone else who is to be or was sleeved stay 1 night? Was told Pts walk every 2 hrs and can only be in bed from midnight to 6 am. The hospital Scottsdale Healthcare Shea is beautiful and everyone is so pleasant. Had the pre-op class all day Wed and they give every a pt a massage or manicure and facial the day after surgery. For 1 wk after surgery all Pts are on a clear liquid diet and then go back to class to learn how to eat. My Dr assures that pt's are not hungry and the 64 oz of water everyday flushes toxins out of the body. The Nut said one wk w/o vitamins etc will not deplete the body of vitamins. I'm still reading the binder of info that was given at the class. This so much to take in and absorb. WOW a wk from Monday I join you in the land of the sleevers walking into a healthier and happier life. -
Please drive carefully and let us know you made it there and back safe. Hopefully they'll have the roads salted. Do you have to drive to Chicago? Opps I meant where to you have to drive to?

My pre-op class is from 7:30 am - 2:30pm. Going to be a long day but very informing. I'm pretty much weaned off the diet coke caffeine. 2 wks from tomorrow is our surgery. WOW the first day to the beginning of our healthy new life. Hows the weather there?
-
Feb 17th for me too, in Chicago! We are getting snow left and right. They are predicting another 10-12 inches on Tuesday night into Wednesday. Wednesday is my 4-hour class. I'm hoping the lousy weather doesn't interfere with anything related to my surgery! :-) I'm from Chicago and sure don't miss the winter weather there.Where in Chicago are you at? I was in Oak Park. Wed is my pre-op all day class also. How far do you have to go to get to the class? Its 32 miles for me but weather is great. Summers are a challenge. There are 3 of us having surgery the 17th. We'll all do great. I'm almost weaned off the caffeine and same goes for the diet coke.

I'm excited about that but anxious thinking about the post op of healing etc after the sleeve. Having 3/4 of my stomach removed is scary to think about. I know it will all go well but it's still a heavy duty operation. I listen to my surgery cd every night in bed. I've used it before and it's very calming. Here is the amazon link to it . http://www.amazon.com/A-Meditation-Promote-Successful-Surgery/dp/1881405346/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1391060236&sr=8-10&keywords=belleruth+naparstek -

Who is pre-op and who is post op?
Sherry S replied to WeeWers's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You should be proud of yourself. We are never too old to get healthy. My surgery date is January 29. I am in the middle of the pre op diet. A bit of a struggle. I will make it though. Good luck with your surgery. We can do it! Tomorrow is your day. Please let us know how you do when you get home. I'm sending healing thoughts to you. -

The correct words from the song are...... Freedom is just another word for having nothing else to loose! What a wonderful gift to ourselves no more weight to loose. -

As long as you have an experienced surgeon and have trust in him/her that will be a big plus. Read all you can on the surgery and in another post I recommended 2 books that are excellent on the sleeve. Write your questions down to ask to your Dr. As Jencovi said there are risks in everything but the risk of being obese is a higher risk for our health. Good luck. We'll all do just fine. The words of a song by Janis Joplin say Freedom is having nothing else to loose. Imagine how great it will be when we have no more weight to loose. Support is what helps us through the good, the bad and the weight loss. My suggestion is to get "THE BIG BOOK ON THE GASTRIC SLEEVE" by Alex Brecher It starts from the very beginning and goes through the first year. Excellent resource and very informative. I got it from Amazon and here is the link http://www.amazon.com/BIG-Book-Gastric-Sleeve-Gastrectomy/dp/0988388235/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1390750957&sr=1-1&keywords=the+big+book+of+gastric+sleeve There is also one on the gastric bypass. Also another book I can recommend is ULTIMATE GASTRIC SLEEVE SUCCESS by Dr Duc C. Vuong http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Gastric-Sleeve-Success-Practical/dp/0615830447/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1390751125&sr=1-1&keywords=ultimate+gastric+sleeve+success Both are excellent and are also available on Kindle. I think the more informed we are on any major event in our lives it takes the unknown out if it. 3 wks from tomorrow is my surgery. Time is flying. Just think 1 yr from now we'll be (fill in the blank)................ pounds lighter. -

Congrag on a great weight loss. Gives me encouragement that it will all be worth it. -
Feb 17th for me also. I'm in AZ and it's warm here. I'm excited and kind of scared also. Going to be a life changing way of eating. From all I read and have been told if I follow the rules and Dr's orders I will do well. Hope all of us having surgery in Feb can keep in touch for support and encouragement.

Good luck with your surgery. We can do it! Good luck Joy with your surgery. I bet your getting excited. Yes we CAN do it! It will be a totally new way of life eating but I'm up to the challenge and the rewards will be great. I'm trying to get my eating under better control. I do keep exercising and am reading as much as I can to be better prepared for my surgery. I'm curious about the pain after the sleeve. I know gas is an issue. -

My surgery date is Feb 17. Things are moving so fast. I'm excited. Have 2 friends who had RNY so I have good support there. Have to start weaning myself off caffeine and diet soda. I go to Curves 3x a wk and walk in the indoor pool (there is one in my community). Now i have to try to loose 7 lbs. -
