Definitely do it! I am also in my 30's and about 6 weeks post-op, and I think it was a great decision. I think doing in younger is good because you are in such a better position to recover, heal quickly, and change old habits. Plus, why not enjoy as many years as possible in a healthier body? Like you, I was apprehensive beforehand, but now I am SO glad I did it. Good luck!

This is so helpful- I am about 2.5 weeks post op and the scale hasn't budged in 4 or 5 days! I was wondering if there is anything special you are supposed to do about it, but from what everyone is saying it sounds like you just need to follow your program and stick it out. I keep trying to focus on the accomplishments I've made so far- I am at my lowest weight in more than 3 years- but I just keep worrying I am doing something wrong and that's why I'm stuck. Good to know that's not the case!

Congrats! So glad you aren't sore and you're feeling well. I felt the same way about the broth. :-)

3 Days Post Surgery- Nervous, But Excited
ok2rebound posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi folks, I am new here and wanted to introduce myself. I just had VSG in Tijuana Mexico as a self-pay three days ago. My experience here with the doctors, the hotel, etc has been excellent so I cannot complain. The surgeons also were very competent and had great bedside manner. I do think if I had done things in the US (where I live) I would have gotten much more patient education, so I have been trying to read the e-mails the patient coordinator sends me and do research on my own. The good news is that even though my insurance did not approve my surgery, they will cover my post-op care, nutrition monitoring, etc, so I hope to feel more confident in that regard soon. My insurance would not approve my surgery because my BMI was just over 35 (which qualified me) but I don't have any comorbidities. Basically I have always been very healthy, but fat. However I knew my luck might not last much longer in terms of blood pressure, diabetes, etc. so I wanted to go ahead and do something about it. Mexico seemed like a good option because it was more affordable, and since I happen to live in southern California, was close to home. I keep wondering if this step was too "drastic" but I think I made a good choice. I have been fighting this struggle all my life, and I know the fight will continue, but this extra tool will be nice. I have dieted, love to exercise, did Optifast, etc etc and nothing sticks, so I hope this will. I have two small children at home and I really want them to grow up seeing me model a healthy relationship with food, and I want them to enjoy having a mom who chases them, runs/hikes/bikes/swims with them, etc. I am a little nervous about going back home to my little ones when I am still so sore but I know we will manage and they will hopefully learn to be "gentle" with mama for a few weeks. I would love to know what folks think are the most useful parts of this forum, what your successes and challenges have been, etc. I am excited to be on this journey with you! -

Thanks for the supportive reply! Deejay, it is so nice of you to share your info and I would LOVE to see it if you won't mind. Is there a way on the forum I can send you my e-mail address? I am new to the site so I don't really know the nuts and bolts... -

How Do You Explain Your Weight Loss?
ok2rebound posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HI everyone, I am a newbie here and am only 3 days out of surgery. I have only told a couple people (husband, very close friends) about the surgery and don't really want to share with other people such as co-workers, less close friends, etc. This is partly because I consider it private, but also partly because I just don't want to deal with the judgement (some of my co-workers in particular are super athletic and very judgemental about people being overweight.) I am not sure how quickly I should expect weight to come off and if I will be asked questions about it, but I was wondering what strategies others have used in responding to questions/comments about weightloss? -

At MI DOCTOR HOSPITAL IN TJ
ok2rebound replied to Italiancurves's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I just had my surgery on Nov. 5 at Mi Doctor with Dr. Ortiz and got my drain out today. So far so good! Based on my experience thus far I would recommend this option to anyone who asked.
