    What ya eating tonight?

You will be able to eat chicken again. I'm seven months out and I'm just now able to tolerate it. In fact with any kind of meat with the exception of fish and shrimp (I can always eat) it's hit and miss. One time I can eat chicken, beef or pork and the next time it's a no go.

    High Blood Sugar AM

I am currently taking onglyza 5mg in the am and glimpiride 2 mg in the pm. Prior to surgery I was taking Janumet am & pm, glimpiride 4 mg am & pm as well as 10 units of Lantus at bedtime. I have tried Peanut Butter, string cheese, cream cheese & celery, a scrambled egg and a few bites of chicken or shrimp (just one or the other). I will just muddle through until I can get into my PCP.

    High Blood Sugar AM

Prior to surgery, my diabetes was out of control and I never knew how bad I felt until after the surgery and my diabetes became manageable. Now I test when I feel out of sorts which is why I've been testing like a maniac all week. I just "don't feel right" these past few mornings and sure enough my sugar is a little high. Crazy now I know what "normal" is . . . at least when it comes to blood glucose levels. As for my mental health . . . I don't know if I will ever experience "normal". LOL

    High Blood Sugar AM

Thanks for sharing, B-52. My last A1C was really good and my PCP was really pleased. Hopefully, despite my high morning reads I will have a good lab report again. I just want to be able to get off the meds altogether.

    sleep apnea?

While I was never diagnosed with sleep apnea I am positive I had it since I had many of the symptoms. The most alarming was waking up gasping for air and my chest would hurt when I would wake up in the morning. I never felt fully rested. My bariatric surgeon thought I should be tested but I knew I would never wear the mask. I am claustrophobic and can't even wear a turtleneck. When coming out of the anesthesia after the bypass I kept pulling the oxygen mask off and was scolded by the nurse. Seven months later and 125 lbs lighter I am sleeping so much better. I no longer wake up gasping for air nor do I feel like I have an elephant sitting on my chest.

    What ya eating tonight?

When I'm having trouble getting my protein in I find shrimp cocktail always goes down easy!

    What ya eating tonight?

I don't know what we are having for dinner but I made a delicious omelet for brunch. I added onion, squash and mushrooms then topped it with sharp cheddar and a chunky tomato salsa. Mmmmm! So good!

    Gallbladder

My sister's surgeon removed her gallbladder at the same time he did her gastric bypass. My surgeon didn't give me that option and I didn't think to ask. He did prescribe me Actigall. I am to take it for one year to prevent gallstones.

    How about some NSVs!?!?

    Game day!

My husband is a 49er fan. I am not a sports fan but I have to cheer for the 49ers or he won't let me live here. lol Our neighbors are coming over. They are bringing grilled chicken. I made a potato salad and cheesy broccoli. I used to always make dessert but since I can't eat it, I don't make it. It's up to those who want it to bring it. We don't drink either so I guess it's BYOB and BYOD at my house. haha

    Date night

If the movie lets out early enough, do a little shopping. Take the money you would have spent on food and pick up a new top or outfit. We are fortunate that one of our theaters is located in an outdoor mall. We enjoy walking and browsing the shops. There are fountains that add a nice touch. There are many restaurants that have outdoor patios where we can enjoy a beverage or a light meal such as salad. My favorite thing to do is to stop of at a gift shop where they sell the most wonderful scented candles. I always have to buy one or two or three! lol
  17. I was taking those prior to surgery. That brand is awesome and it really works! I stopped taking them once I had surgery and started taking sublingual Biotin along with my other chewable and sublingual Vitamins required. I recently started taking pill form vitamins (6 months post op). Now that I know I can tolerate the Vitamin pills I will pick up Hair Skin & Nails the next time I go to costco.
  18. I'm 6 1/2 months post op and started losing my hair about two months post op. Today was the first time there was no hair in the drain. I hope this means this hair shedding is coming to an end.

Something interesting about all the profile pics

My son snapped this picture a few days after Christmas as I was getting ready to go out He's a great photographer. I tell everyone that if he can make me look good, he can make anyone look good. And of course, I always thank him for photoshopping the wart off my nose!

    How about some NSVs!?!?

I've been having so much fun picking up a new pieces a of clothing every time I'm in Walmart, Target, etc. I can't get over the low prices compared to when I had to shop Plus Size Specialty stores. I was in Walmart last week and picked up two tops for less than $12 each. ((NSV #1). I bought them 1 size smaller than I am now so i could wear them this spring. I showed them to my sister who said "Oh those will fit you now." I told her she was wrong but tried them on and they fit perfectly. Now I have to exchange them for yet another smaller size. (NSV # 2)

    How about some NSVs!?!?

One it the things that would stress me out was driving in someone else's vehicle because I worried if it was going to be difficult getting into smaller sedans and if the seatbelt would fit. My sister wanted me to go with her to pick out new glasses but her car was in the shop and my son needed to use my van so we had to use her mother-in-laws small sedan. I couldn't believe how easy it was getting in and out of her car and how easy it was to buckle up.

    Diabetes Run In....

The awesome thing about the RNY is that it helps with diabetes. Many patients find immediately that they no longer need to take diabetic meds. I am 6 1/2 months out. I no longer have to take insulin and my oral meds were cut in half. My PCP told me it won't be long before I will probably be off oral meds. Until you have the surgery, try managing your blood glucose level with eating right and exercise. I'm speaking from experience when I say it's not easy. When will you be having the surgery? Best wishes to you. It's going to change your life!

July 2013 - Post Op Thread

You look great! Congrats on the 90lbs. I had my surgery on July 2, 2013. I was so happy to lose over100lbs in six months. You'll be doing the happy dance for 100lbs lost soon enough.
  25. When I had my first appointment with my surgeon I asked him how much weight I would be required to lose during my six month nutrition and weight loss classed (required by my insurance). He told me I was not required to lose any weight but I could not gain one single pound or he would not do the surgery. I did not diet but I did cut my food intake in half. I still ate fast food but instead of fries with a burger I would eat a pickle spear and a few olives or grape tomatoes. My weakness is sweets, especially at night so instead of Cookies (my fave) I ate fresh fruit and that helped satisfy my sweet tooth. I was a soda junkie and drank 2-3 cans of diet coke every day. He wanted me to stop drinking soda immediately but I just couldn't do it. I drank soda up until my surgery. I ended up losing 37lbs pre-op and since I had the surgery I have not had soda nor do I even crave it. The surgery itself gave me great motivation to eat right and every time I weigh and measure it propels me forward to continue to follow the plan. Don't beat yourself up. Forget the word " diet". Try cutting your food portions in half. If you want to snack, try fruits, veggies and maybe some nuts. Today is a new day. Pick yourself up and move forward. Best wishes as you continue your journey. Keep us updated and let us know when you get a surgery date.
