Fruit Issues

Anyone else out there having issues with fruit? Up until my last fill (6th) I was able to eat ALL fruit. Now I am having a really hard time with grapes and bananas. I suppose I could peel the grapes but really it's almost not worth it. I know that some people will have hard times with fruit that has skin but those were my 2 favorite fruits! So is anyone else having problems with fruit?

    No pasta..?????

As far as bread, pasta and rice go I cannot eat any of it. I didn't try it until I was almost 5 months out and none of it worked for me. I am alright with not being able to eat that stuff since I was a HUGE carb addict before the band. I cannot say that I miss it one bit. I do still eat crackers and those always go well for me.

Sad but true - friends that are jealous!

It is a sad but real thing that happens as we lose weight. Friends tend to become very jealous and try to sabotage our efforts. I was banded on 1/30/08 and sad to say but I have lost my best friend over it. I never thought I would have lost her over this, but I did have to say good-bye to the friendship. My health and well being are more important to me than an angry bitter friend. She had gastric bypass in 2004 and lost 145 lbs. She didn't take care of herself and has since regained all the weight. She ate fast food daily and never made the commitment to overcome food. So when I decided to get the lap-band she made fun of me and basically said I would fail. Well since I have done extremely well she became really nasty to me. So I have prepared myself to get rid of any nasty negative people in my life who cannot be supportive. I need to be healthy for myself and my family. Good luck to all of you:biggrin2:

    Post Op pain med

My doctor sent me home with dilaudid. I am allergic to percocet and codeine. It was sent home in pill form and I had no problems taking it. I was in quite a bit of pain the first 4 days due to my port incision becoming infected. I did not have to gas pain that is so common amongst everyone else. I hope everyone has a successful surgery if they have one coming up. I would do it all again in a heartbeat. Good luck everyone!!

    Can anyone still eat bagels?

Nope..I too tried a bagel and it did not go well. I was in horrible pain for hours after. It is not even worth it to me anymore. Bread and I just aren't friends anymore.

  16. I have 5.5cc's in a 10cc band. I have had 4 fills and 1 unfill. At surgery I had 3 cc's and I had my first fill 6 weeks post-op 1cc. 2 weeks after that I had another 1cc added, 2 weeks after that .5cc and a week after that 1cc. For a total of 6cc's (.5cc leaked between day one and week 6). After two weeks of being at 6cc's I had to have .5cc taken out, I was really really tight. Could not keep anything down including fluids. I feel now that I have the restriction that I need, not at the "sweet spot" but I am slowly getting there. I am 4 months post op and I have lost 34lbs. I know it's a slow-go but this time I will keep off the weight.

    banded january 30 2008

So I was banded on Jan. 30th and I did really good for the first 2 weeks. Now that I have introduced food back into my diet it seems to be going downhill for me. At first food really scared me but now I try to eat almost everything. I feel really hungry now and have even tried to go back to liquids, but not happening, I get extremely hungry. I don't go for my first fill until March 13th. So what I am hoping for is some encouraging words to get me back on track. Please tell me this happens to everyone and I can do this. Thanks to everyone for reading this and especially all that help me.

    Tricare Prime Remote

Ft. Lewis will start doing the band in October. I am scheduled to be banded at the beginning of November. Dr. Sebesta is the ONLY doctor on Fort Lewis that will be doing the band. I will finish my pathway classes on Oct. 17th and then off for the psych eval, which I will have to pay out of pocket because Dr. Kerr is booked until the end of the year. From my understanding you have to be based at one of the few military bases that perform the procedure. They do not take outside patients. Hope this helps some of you, don't get discouraged more MTF will start banding within the next 2 yrs.

    info please

I am considering lap band surgery. I am 4'11 and weigh 175 lbs. That puts my bmi at 35. I have been overweight my ENTIRE life and think it is finally time I do something about it. Over the past 6 months I have gained 20 lbs. It seems that I lose a little dieting and then once I stop I gain it all back and then some. The most I seem to lose at any giving time is about 15 lbs never any more. I have tried almost everything out there. Weight Watchers to Medifast and everything in between. I am tired of spending all this money on failed attempts to lose weight. These last 20 lbs that I have put on has started to affect my quality of life. I am a mother of 2 and hardly have the energy to keep up with them. My body hurts ALL the time and seems to get worse with each passing day.

I guess my question is, is the lap band right for me? I have taken the first step towards being banded and that seemed to be the hardest step ever. I called my pcm and received the referal to go see general surgery. The hardest part for me was admitting I was obese and need drastic measures to get myself healthy.

I just wanted a few different opinions before going all the way with this. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

  21. :help:I received my doctors referral for the lapband. My referral was supposed to take 3 days to approve but I received the call from general sugery today to meet with the doctor to discuss if I will be accepted for the band. My husband being military makes my process different from other peoples. If there is someone associated with Tricare could someone please tell me the process from here. My appointment with general surgery is scheduled for August 21st. Thanks to all and I look forward to getting to know all of you. Good luck and best wishes. Christine

    just received doctors referral!!!!

Welcome to Ft. Lewis! I went and saw my PCM and he gave me the referral to go see general surgery. I go and see Dr. Sebesta on August 21st. He will then have to refer me to Bremerton Naval Hospital because Madigan does not do the lap band, only gastric bypass. I believe we can do everything we need to at Madigan and then go to Bremerton to meet the surgeon and have the procedure done. I know Madigan will do the fills for you. I hope this has been some help for you, I seem to just be rambling on. Oh, and you will see people on here about Tri-care not covering the procedure. They will not cover it if you try to go to a civilian provider only if you go the MTF that does the procedure. Since Bremerton is less than 50 miles away we are covered.

    Tricare Prime Remote

I too have Tri-care prime. Tri-care does cover the lap band if you can find a Military Treatment Facility that does the procedure. We are stationed at Ft. Lewis Washington, Ft. Lewis only does gastric bypass. The Naval hospital near us does the lap band. I will be banded there. You have to get a referral from general surgery to go to a different treatment center. They will NOT cover the procedure if you try to go to a civilian provider or if you don't use a MTF near you. You biggest problem would be finding a MTF near you (within 50 miles) that performs the procedure.
