    Grieving food?

    I hope this is true!!

    Resolutions no more just goals.

Those are great goals. A move is big - I've moved cross country five or six times (I know, I'm mental), and being away from family is tough. But, you have new opportunities to meet new people, find new places you enjoy, etc. good luck on your new adventure!

    What Is....

It's interesting, I think. As much as we think (should?) have balanced meals (protein, veg, carb), I know protein is most important. So if you're like me and love veggies, I can imagine having to be very conscious about maybe 2 bites protein, one bite veg, 2 bites protein, one bite starch... How are you all getting your veg in if you're focused mostly on protein?

Debbie, did you purée the haddock? I had RNY on 12/19 and am on puréed until 1/19. No meats yet, not even fish (even if puréed). I'm on things like cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, cream of wheat, protein shakes, ff refrained beans... Pretty much protein shakes and dairy, mostly. I think if I had haddock right now, I'd barf too (and I love haddock)!

I have a tough time getting the liquids down, but am doing ok with my 2oz portions of food. I sometimes think I'm not full, but then I really try to look at it differently - am I just so used to eating large volumes of food (yes), does my new stomach feel full but I just "want" more (big yes)? My head trip is going to be a lot about "want" versus "need," and the battle with the "full factor".

    December Surgeries!?!?!?

Hi Kathryn, I was petrified. My surgery was Dec 19. I think my fear was all about the medical end - the surgery, etc. Thank God all went well, as I'm sure it will for you as well. You're prepared, and once you get past the surgery, it gets easier....like a huge sigh of relief. I had some pain (some people had none!), but the first three days seem to be the worst. Then you'll be home in your own bed and on your way! Good luck, breathe deep, and let us know how it goes!

I had mine on 12/19 and am eating "blended" foods, including cottage cheese, yogurt, pudding, cream of wheat, protein shakes, etc. I am allowed to eat cream soups too, but I kinda gag on those.

On Chrismas, I was able to put on jeans and a bra. For the jeans, I wore a long shirt and kept the top jeans button unbuttoned, and I put an extra gauze pad on that incision just in case. The bra one was a little harder...not bad when standing, but when I sat, it came a little close to the top incision. At home, I too rock the pajamas, but am about to graduate to sweats. Other than Christmas, I really haven't been out, but that will be sweats, no bra (watch out! Lol).

Nope. I've got a 2 oz liquid/puréed food per meal.

    December Surgeries!?!?!?

Bleh, that's the worst. Talk to your doc...maybe there's some alternative. The only meds I'm taking now (1week post op) is the omeprazole and chewable vitamins, but I'm dreading taking others!

    December Surgeries!?!?!?

I'm sorry you're having a hard time. The approval made it so real for me, and I only got nervous at that point (my surg was a week ago). When our loved ones aren't supportive, it makes a life-changing decision even harder. Just remember you are doing this for you and no one else. They could be speaking out of worry or fear, or that you will change so much and alter the "you" they've always known. I've only told my husband and parents; my parents are supportive but concerned of course. But they're also the first to acknowledge that I've dieted for some 40 years and clearly unsuccessfully. Stay true to yourself and assure them that you didn't make this decision overnight. And we're all here to support you!

Yes, definitely this is the place to talk about anything. You struck a chord with me about the "food teasing me" and being emotional this time of year. Not only am I glad you found us, but that we found you too. This forum has truly proven that there's strength in numbers...even if there's weakness in wanting a yummy Christmas ham sandwich! Lol

    What Is....

Can I ask you guys something? I'm only one week post op, so I'm on 2ounce servings of the soft stuff for a while. Eventually, when I get to "regular" food, how much do you find you can eat? Is it all protein, or do you balance with veg and, if with veg, is it like one bite of protein and one bite of veg?

    December Surgeries!?!?!?

Hi, my surgery was 12/19. I'm on a "blended diet," which is puréed foods and protein drinks, yogurt, broth/strained soup and cottage cheese. That's for the first four weeks, then on to "soft foods" stage. Being that surg was only 7 days ago, I really haven't been "eating" much, mostly a couple 2oz portions of protein drink per day, along with my doc's recommended 32 oz of water, which takes me an entire day to get down. They made us promise not to even try solid foods for the first month! I might try blended lentil soup today though....oooh! Lol

Hi, I'm one week post-op and am on blended diet...no soft foods for a month. Does your diet plan already include meat? And the pill pain could also be from the amount of water you're taking with it, which is what hurt the most for me at first.
  16. I'm just 5 days post-op, and was told that my pouch now holds only 2 ounces, which is 1/4 cup. I guess eventually it gets to hold 4 ounces.

    Time off work

My doc wrote me out for six weeks and, you know what, I think I may actually take them! I also have a desk job, so not physically demanding, but sometimes stressful of course. When else would I be able to take six weeks off for ME? I'm only 5 days post-op now and getting a little bored already, but I have a lot to learn about this new way of eating and being, and once Christmas passes and I have some strength back, I think I'll be happy I took the six.

Wow, you're already on food food? And I experience the same tightness when I sip liquids. I'm really trying to focus on sip size, and it's tough getting in the liquid!

    December Surgeries!?!?!?

Bleh!! The drain removal was the grossest part!! It gives me the willies thinking about it!! Sounds like your body is under control though, and since you also had your gall bladder out, it makes sense your surgeon kept you an extra day...better over-cautious than under-cautious! The hardest part is behind you!

Jackie, you could be getting dehydrated. Call your doc just in case.

    December Surgeries!?!?!?

Woohoo, that's awesome! Kiss 300+ goodbye! I came home from surgery on 12/21 up 8 pounds, but have lost 6 of those in the last two days. I can't wait til I see some net loss.

    December Surgeries!?!?!?

Hi, I had my surgery on 12/19 and came home 12/21. I had some broth that night (ick), and had some of my day 1 diet yesterday. I'm focusing mostly on the water and trying to get some of the protein in. I'm a little nauseous this morning, but generally ok. I'm wondering if that's because I took some Tylenol (allowed) on an empty stomach last night. Do what you can with the food, but definitely stay hydrated. I think that can cause nausea too.
