I feel bad keeping my surgery private
B is starting the journey posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
i am active in my church as well as Bible studies. I have opted to keep my surgery private. I feel bad sometimes when prayer requests come up and I act as if nothing big is going on in my life, when there is....surgery...Anyone else experience this? -

Mentor for Atlanta, GA or south of Atlanta ?
B is starting the journey posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I love encouraging others, but for once I am on the other side of the fence and looking for someone to come along side me as a mentor. I have a pen pal that has the same surgery date, Nov 5, 2013. It is great sharing our preop experiences. I hope to one day do the same, mentor someone. -
Gas-x before?
B is starting the journey replied to curious37's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My understanding is the gas used for laparoscopic surgery is mostly intra abdominal not necessarily intestinal. The gas rises often to your shoulders that is one of the benefits of moving and walking it helps with passing gas that is in your GI tract and helps dissipate the gas. I was warned the gas can be bad though and preop they told our class it wouldn't help. I would check with your surgeon as always though. -
Glad to find this site. Newbie surgery in two weeks!

Hello everyone. I am glad to have found this site. I am scheduled for a RNY in about 2 weeks. I go for my preop visit one week from today. I have had a weight problem all my life. My first diet was my mother bringing me to Weight Watchers at age 8. I am so tired of this battle and how I feel that I have allowed many things in life to slip by as I made excuses for why I wasn't doing certain things. I am tired of living a lie..yes, there are things I want to do, and look forward to at least having the ability to participate in. I am not saying that I really would sky jump, but by golly I will have that option. Besides being healthier, and looking better I am ready to start living again. Life has been on hold for too long, and my weight has dictated my opportunities too much. Look forward to watching others blossom as well... so my journey begins. -

Thank you all ladies. @Ray8L two days away, you must be excited. I wish you well . I too am a nurse and know all the risks, I only told my manager out of necessity for time off. I work in a really busy ED and getting a break to eat is sometimes really hard. Post op I will not lie. I just am opting not to tell everyone and as well stated try to explain myself, and listen to ignorance. -
November surgeries?
B is starting the journey replied to fs_newme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am new to the site. I am scheduled Nov 5th. The hospital is 1 hr 40 mins away and my arrival time is 5:30 so I am checking into a hotel 2 weeks from today in order to settle in and start my bowel prep. I am really getting excited now after attending a pre op class and tour. I go in one week for my pre op visit with the surgeon, meet anesthesia, and meet with nutritionist again. I can't believe I am only 2 weeks away.... -

I am new to the site. I am scheduled for RNY Nov 5th. Since going to a support group/pre op class on Sat I have been really excited. It seems close but still far away at times.
