  1. I had my gallbladder removed years before my sleeve. I had dieted and lost 110 pounds and bam! there went my gallbladder. So, now that I have my sleeve, that's one thing I don't have to worry about.

    What goal?

    Congratulations!

    Other Peoples Opinions

My response to that kind of "helpful" advice has become "thank you, I'll give your advice all the consideration it deserves."

    Recovery Time

I had surgery on Thursday the 11th and returned to work on Monday the 22nd. I could easily have gone back sooner. Realistically, with your work situation, I could have gone back on the 15th.

What activities are you looking forward to doing?

Is it bad that my inner 12 year old boy is doing a Beavis and Butthead impersonation? Heh heh, Steve said the sex thing is huge. But in all seriousness, I'm looking forward to joining friends when they do things that I always skipped in the past like hiking, doing the Color Run when it comes to town, going on group trips to places like the outlet malls, etc. I also want to try some new stuff like ziplining.
  6. No, I don't fail to understand anything about it. You repeated yourself enough times that I'm pretty sure EVERYONE understands your point. However, if I am asking for medical advice on a forum, I'm not going to follow the advice without significant research into it first. And if I had a surgery that was this different from most everyone else on here, I certainly would be even more vigilant about it. As for what I'm doing, I'd have to say I'm enjoying most of the interaction on these boards. Regardless of the fact that you feel like you're a special little life-saving snowflake, the fact is that the DS forum is part of the larger Bariatric Pal community. If you can't deal with that fact without acting like a major bitch, then you're probably not going to get as much from the community as it has to offer. And that's sad, because I find the camaraderie to be the biggest help of all, and judging by how knowledgeable you seem to be about your chosen surgery, I feel like that's something you could be a part of.
  7. Or maybe, you know, the DS patients could just take the advice with a grain of salt as the surgery is different. They can still enjoy the support and camaraderie that comes from all of us "other" types of surgery. At least they can if they're not too busy being hypersensitive and prickly.
  8. Thanks for this article! I'm five months post-op and have been sick three times since the beginning of January. I'm currently sick again and pretty miserable. I'll be adding some of these things into my routine.
  9. I was seen at one week, two weeks, three weeks, six weeks, three months, and will be seen at six months and one year. The first visit that had much of an impact was three months, when they drew blood. The visits before that were just checking weight and blood pressure. After having done them, I can honestly say that missing all of them up to the three month mark wouldn't have mattered since I was doing fine.

I wish I knew how to quit you, (fill in the blank)!

I'm not knocking this recipe, I don't drink coffee so I don't really care much one way or the other about creamer. But for whoever wrote the recipe to say it only has three ingredients versus 13 in Coffeemate is a bit misleading. I mean yes, you're only putting three "ingredients" into it, but how about what those ingredients are made of? Torani itself has probably 8 or 10 ingredients.
  11. I'm glad I'm not the only one who does stuff like that! I laugh at myself sometimes and wonder if it really helps to park in the farthest row, but then I step on the scale and realize that yes, it does!
  12. Just to save typing, I'm copying and pasting my answer from another thread a few days ago. My husband and I had sleeve surgery the same day. I was first, he was second. I woke up in the recovery room right around the time they wheeled him into the recovery room and put him right next to me. I stayed there for a few minutes until he woke up and then they had me get up and walk to my room. I was in my room for about 15 minutes when they had him get up and walk to his room, which was right next door to mine. I got up and walked into his room and we stayed together the rest of the day, getting up and walking together, trying different juices, everything was together. We left the hospital about 8 hours after surgery and a friend drove us home. We recovered side by side and have been each others partner through the whole process. As of today, 4.5 months later, we've stayed within a few pounds of each other as far as amount lost. I'm at 85 pounds and he's at 81. I am so happy we did this and that we did it together. It's definitely been a challenge, but having him right there with me has been a major blessing.

    Any one from Texas?

I'm in Wichita Falls, but had my surgery in Dallas with Dr. Jayaseelan.

    Vitamins

I take 4 calcium citrate petites daily, I get them at Sam's, Member's Mark brand. I take 6 multivitamins daily that melt in your mouth - also from Sam's, brand name is VitaMelts. I take 2 Biotin melt in your mouth daily from WalMart, brand name VitaMelts. I also take 2 Fiber supplement gummies from Sam's every day, brand name Fiber Well. These are the ones I really like. The other things I take, but haven't really found a brand or type that I'm crazy about are: Vitamin D3 daily, Iron daily, and B12 twice weekly.

    Menopausal..Hot flashes

I can't speak for anyone else, but I have done a complete about face, temperature wise. I was on HRT due to menopause symptoms, mainly hot flashes, before surgery. I had to stop taking the hormones right before and after surgery due to the blood clot risk, and I just never started taking them again. I haven't had a single hot flash since surgery, and have gone from sleeping naked with no covers at all to sleeping wearing flannel pajamas, on flannel sheets, under a regular blanket and electric blanket.
  16. My husband and I were sleeved together and neither one of us has had a bit of trouble. Fast, easy recovery. I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

    Surgery with your partner

My husband and I had sleeve surgery the same day. I was first, he was second. It's definitely been a challenge, but having him right there with me has been a major blessing. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask them or to pm me.
  18. This is one of the reasons I don't like mfp. I use Daily Burn tracker and you set it for what your nutrition goals are, and then it just tells you how you're doing in relation to your goals, not some arbitrary number. The pay version tracks all nutrients, but I'm quite happy with the free version which tracks calories, fat, carbs, and Protein.
  19. Totally not too soon to be gallbladder. You should probably get it checked out. Sooner rather than later, you really don't want to mess with the gallbladder if it's getting inflamed.

    Disgusted

In all sincerity, if the words "anal sex" upset you this much, you should seriously consider seeing a counselor.
  21. Oh, and you could be right. I was just pointing out that mine's not too much lower.
  22. That may just be her normal goal. Mine is 80 to 100 grams of protein and I'm not a weightlifter.

    Question

Absolutely discuss it more with your surgeon if you're not comfortable. My husband is type II diabetic and he had the sleeve surgery on 09/11/14. He hasn't had an insulin injection or any diabetes meds at all since we get home from the hospital. His fasting glucose level is around 95 and his A1C had fallen from 11.9 pre-surgery to 6.5 by his 3 month blood work. He will have it checked again in March for our 6 month checkup and I have no doubt that it will be perfectly normal. He no longer has to take high blood pressure meds or cholesterol meds. This surgery has been a total blessing.

    Baggy or fitted?

Add me to the Goodwill list. We have a lot of different charity thrift shops here. I like knowing that not only am I getting a great deal but my money is going to help out some good causes. I've spent enough time at the different places in town that I know when each of them has their sale days and I can make it out the door with LOTS of nice stuff for next to nothing. My husband has finally gotten close enough to goal that we're starting to buy him some brand new stuff, but I'll be a Goodwill shopper for quite a while yet!
