    Weight Gain immediately postop

No worries! It will go away. And when you get to around week 3, you'll stop losing for a while. That's very normal, too!

    Ugh

I don't know if I just have an amazing group of friends and family or if I'm such a pain that everyone is scared to say things like that to me, but I haven't had the slightest bit of negativity from anyone I've told. And I've told pretty much every person I've spoken to in the last year, lol. I'm very open about the surgery so anytime anyone mentions my weight loss, I talk about it. On a related note, who treats their friends and family this way? I mean, really? I just can't even. I just can't. My mama didn't teach me to act like a total hosebeast to anyone, much less people I supposedly care about!

    Weight Gain immediately postop

Very, very normal. It's from the IV Fluid they pump you full of while you're in surgery. I gained exactly 9 pounds, also. By 3 days after surgery it was gone and I was losing big time.
  4. We used to keep our AC at 70 and I still slept without any covers at all and was barely cool enough. Now, we keep it at 76 and I sleep with two blankets.

Food Scale - do you really need one?

Maybe some can get by without a scale, but I'm 10 months post-op and still use mine for everything. I slacked off for a while and was just eyeballing it, but I started to think maybe I wasn't getting it quite right. I started weighing again and yep, I was way off in some cases. I'll stick with the scale for now. It only cost 20 bucks, so it's definitely worth it for me.

    High A1c

My husband's was over 12 when he had surgery. He hasn't had to take any insulin or other diabetes meds since he left the hospital. The last blood work he had was at 3 months and it was down to like 6.2, which is still high, but it takes a while for your level to drop after your glucose level does. I imagine it will be totally normal when he has his one year checkup.

    Fairlife milk?

I don't care for the chocolate, but I'm not a big fan of chocolate milk in general. The plain 2% is good, though.

Any couples out there both sleeved?

So far, we haven't really had any issues with gatherings. We're both very open about our surgeries, so we don't have to worry about trying to keep people from noticing how little we eat, so that's a major help. Plus, so far no matter whether it's at a restaurant or at someone's house, there's always been something we could eat. It may not necessarily be something we'd have regularly, but for a function like an office Christmas party, I can live with eating a few extra carbs and having a mini ham & cheese sandwich. I just plan ahead of time and do my best to make it fit into my overall daily meal plan.

    Temptations

My desk sits about 12 feet away from the men's room at my office. I can personally vouch for this being way truer than anyone thinks. And it's not just that one weird guy that smells funny who does it. I no longer eat anything that is brought into the office unless it's brought by me or my bff, and even then I only eat it if I can get to it before everyone else.

Any couples out there both sleeved?

Wow! That's awesome! We didn't think we could do it at the same time. One because our hospital was 2 1/2 hours away, and several other factors made it too difficult. I think it's great you went through it together!Congratulations on your success!!! Hope we can do as well as you two did! How's your grocery bill compared to before? Actually, our surgical center was about 2.5 hours from home, too. We had one of my friends go with us on Tuesday and drive us home after our EGDs and another friend went with us on Thursday and drove us home after surgery. We considered getting a hotel room near the surgical center and just staying there for a day or so but we have four dogs and a cat at home and just didn't really want to leave them with anyone else. I've been thinking about our grocery bill since reading this thread earlier today. I'd have to say that overall, food wise, we're probably saving around $400 a month or so. We spend more on actual groceries now, but we're not buying any of the chemical shitstorms we used to eat so much of, so while it is expensive to buy high quality cuts of meat and fresh organic vegetables, it still nets a big savings because we're not spending anything on pizza, potato chips, soft drinks, ice cream, Cookies, etc. We also basically no longer eat out. We may eat chick fil a grilled nuggets once a month while running errands, if that. We probably have dinner at a steak restaurant once every two months or so, and even then we share a meal and still have leftovers for lunch the next day. The closest we get to eating junk food now is when we're shopping at Sam's, we'll get a rotisserie chicken and then stop on the way home and get an order of refried Beans from Taco Casa. We split the beans and eat it with the chicken, lol.

My hubby and I were sleeved the same day, 09/11/14. I went first, he was second, we came home that evening and it's been smooth sailing ever since. He has lost 100 pounds and it at his goal, 153 pounds. I have lost 114 pounds and still have a ways to go. I'm shorter than him but outweighed him quite a bit. It's truly the best thing we ever did and the journey has brought us so much closer together. I wouldn't trade this experience for anything.

    Best protein bar!?

You don't find the atkins bars too high in saturated fat or fat in general? That's the only thing that has turned me off from those bars. That and most of them are really high in calories. No, they fit nicely into my meal plans most days.

    Best protein bar!?

My absolute favorite is Atkins bars. Specifically, I loooooove the Peanut Butter Pretzel bar.

    Out Patient vs Hospital Stay

Outpatient. Checked in to the surgical center around 7:30 am, surgery at 8:30 am, left at 5:30 pm. It was awesome.

    Did everyone have a drain?

I didn't have one. Neither did my husband.
  16. I went back and looked at my food journal from that time period. The amount I could eat depended on what it was. If it was something thin like hot and sour Soup, then yes I could eat a cup. If it was something like refried Beans, I could get between 1/4 and 1/2 a cup at most.

    Dallas Surgeons / Clinics

My husband and I both used Dr. Jayaseelan at Dallas Bariatric Center. Loved, loved, loved him and his staff! We had wonderful experiences and still enjoy going in for follow up appointments.

Is it CHEATING or is it a CHOICE?

@@LipstickLady, you might want to have a cigarette handy because I think you're about to have a special moment, lol. When I started reading this thread, I was in the camp of "cheating or choice, it's the same thing. Why does it matter why you call it?" But after reading your posts, I have to say that you're right. There is a difference in the way I feel if I think I cheated versus I made a bad choice. I never realized it before, but you really made me think about it. Thank you for the insight.

    Weight loss, sleeve vs bypass

Those numbers are averages. Like with any average, there are plenty of people who lose more and plenty who lose less. My husband and I both had surgery on 09/11/2014. I needed to lose 180 pounds and have lost 107 so far. My husband needed to lose 93 pounds and has lost 100 pounds, so he's lost 107% of his excess weight. I'm losing slower now than I was at first, but still overall I've averages 3.17 pounds per week.
