  1. Best of luck to you in your journey! My husband was a type II diabetic on insulin, metformin, victoza, etc. We both had sleeve surgery in North Dallas with Dr. Jayaseelan about a year ago. He hasn't had a single insulin injection since we left the hospital. He hasn't taken any metformin or victoza since the hospital, either. He's off all blood pressure meds and cholesterol meds he was on. He no longer has to get steroid or cortisone injections into his spine like he was getting every 6 weeks. He's lost 102 pounds, reached and passed his goal weight, and is healthier than ever.

    Is this even logical?

It's very possible. And while it seems a bit more restrictive than most, it's not unheard of. I don't really understand why you're so surprised and upset, though. Is this news? Did the doctor change things up on you after surgery?
  3. I have United Healthcare in Texas and they technically covered bariatric surgery but the restrictions were so ridiculous that I ended up having it done and billed to insurance as a hiatal hernia repair (which was really done) and I paid out of pocket for the sleeve portion of the surgery. Had I gotten the surgery covered under the bariatrics portion of the plan, my out of pocket would have been in the neighborhood of $13,000. The way I had it done instead, my out of pocket total was less than $6,000.
  4. The vast majority of us have been able to lose weight many times on various different diets. I personally lost 110 pounds once on Slim-Fast, for example. However, as is repeatedly said, we don't KEEP it off. I fully expect surgery to be the tool that finally allows me to keep my weight where I want it to be.

    Micro Surgery Center - Dallas

The surgeon, yes. Nothing extra for anesthesia. My surgery was billed to insurance as a hiatal hernia repair and I paid extra for the sleeve. My grand total out of pocket for the surgeon, the surgery center, the EGD, and the meds to take at home afterwards, was just under $6,000. That also covers follow-up appointments for a year with the surgeon and with the nurse practitioners in his office.

    Micro Surgery Center - Dallas

I don't know how it works either, but I loved the place. We went in that morning around 7:00, had surgery around 8:00, and got to go home that evening around 5:30. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the nurses were great. My out of pocket for the microsurgery center's portion was around $1,100.

If you're talking about the Microsurgery Institute on Forest Park, then yes. My husband and I both had our EGDs and our sleeve surgeries there.

Great idea! I buy those cups from WalMart because I use them for all sorts of things now. chicken salad, pimento cheese, Peanut Butter, salsa, etc.

    Veterans forum

I'm pretty sure you have to have at least 100 posts on the board before you're considered a veteran. Your profile shows that you've got 39.
  11. My husband and both have the same thing. However, we have weighed before and after just to see what the difference is! On a related note, we've weighed before and after peeing, too. Pee weighs more than you think!

    Cold

My husband and I are both like this post-sleeve. We used to keep the air conditioner set at 70 and sleep with no blanket. Now we have the air set at 76 and sleep with an electric blanket. If that's part of being thinner and healthier, I can live with it!

    Tator tot hotdish?

I can't speak for your surgeon, but I know if I had asked, mine would have said Hell NO!
  14. Congratulations! You've already got the most important thing going for you: an excellent mindset. Keep it up and you'll do great.

    Almond Milk

For me, it's not so much the lower carb factor as it is the lower sugar. Not just because of trying to stick with my eating guidelines but because too much sugar makes me nauseated. Plus, I've always loved milk that is rich and creamy and almond or almond coconut blend really is.

How long were you out of work?

I took off 11 days. Had surgery on a Thursday, took off the next week and was back to work the following Monday. It was plenty of time and I felt great going back to work.
  17. Do you have no health insurance at all or just no coverage for bariatric surgery?
  18. @@Alex Brecher, I can't think of anything I would need this forum for right at the moment, but I just wanted to say thanks for always thinking about us and trying to find ways to help. I've been really impressed with the number of different sub-forums we have and this one just adds to it.
  19. It will definitely change when you get to more solid food. I think most of us felt that fear (sometimes even panic) at the point you're at. I was scared to death until I tried to eat something more solid and my tiny tummy was having none of it after about 3 bites.
  20. My first appointment with the surgeon was June 23 and my surgery was September 11.
  21. I do experience dumping occasionally with the sleeve. I don't know exactly what the line is for me, as it's only happened a few times, though. For yogurt, I eat Dannon Light and Fit Greek yogurt. Some of the flavors are awesome and it's omly 7 grams of sugar.

    Stomachache after surgery

I'd suggest calling your surgeon's office. At no point after my surgery did my stomach hurt. I know everyone is different, but the only pain I had was from my incisions, so it sounds unusual to me.
  23. I'm pretty sure that as long as you meet the requirements and get approved, it's okay to lose weight before the actual surgery. In fact, some surgeons require it.

    well, poo!

My surgeon told me and my husband to take Milk of Magnesia if we hadn't gone by day 5. Neither one of us had, so we did, and then we did! No problems since, although we did have to start taking a Fiber supplement.

    Weight Gain immediately postop

Not until 6 weeks post-op. I walked before then, but nothing more strenuous was approved by the surgeon until 6 weeks.
