    September Sleevers!

The hubs tried the powdered muscle milk 100 cal tonight, mixing it with skim milk instead of water. I took a sip and while it's not my favorite thing in the world, it's about 1,000 times better than the ready-to-drink.

    September Sleevers!

I'll have to give those a try. My husband just bought some Muscle Milk light to try, the premixed chocolate. He likes it so I tried it. Disgusting!

    September Sleevers!

I wish I had some insight to offer, but that just sounds bizarre to me. I'd almost bet it was just a mis-key. Someone should have typed code 43 and instead typed code 433 which is something completely unrelated. That type of thing.

Awesome! Hopefully that's all it will be for me, too.

    September Sleevers!

Well, crap! I just saw my pcp for preop blood work and EKG. The EKG showed a slight irregular heartbeat and enlargement of one side of my heart. She's going to send to the surgeon and see if it's good enough or if I have to see a cardiologist for clearance. I'm praying that this doesn't stop me from getting the surgery. :'(

    gastric sleeve

I don't know anything about any specific surgeons in Mexico, but you might get more answers if you asked this on the surgeons and hospitals subforum under the main gastric sleeve surgery forum.

    September Sleevers!

Cool. My husband's and my surgeon is Dr. Jayaseelan at Dallas Bariatrics. it's a little over two hours from our house to his office, so not too bad of a drive. I just feel a lot more comfortable and confident with him than with any local surgeons here in WF.

It'll go better than you expect it to, just think of the outcome! Good luck!

    September Sleevers!

Sorry! (They were yummy!) Our doc has us do a week of Clear Liquids plus Protein Drinks. My husband works in a very physically demanding job and the doc told him that if he just absolutely had to eat something on workdays, then he could have one baked chicken breast each day.

Oh yeah, and we're going out for Mexican for our last pre-op meal. Love me some tacos.

    September Sleevers!

We had our pre-op appointment with Dr. Jay today and our little class about the surgery. We start the clear liquid diet tomorrow. I'm so excited and anxious for next Thursday to be here!

    September Sleevers!

I go tomorrow for my pre-op appointment and class. I assume that I'll be given the guidelines for my pre-op diet for the week before surgery. The 11th is getting closer and closer!

    Time off of work?

My surgery will be on a Thursday morning, go home Thursday evening, and the surgeon says I can go back to work on Monday. I'm not going to go back that quick because even though I have a desk job, my husband (who is getting sleeved the same day as me) has a much more physical job, so he's taking a week off and I'm staying home with home. I figure that gives us time to adjust to things together.
  17. JCP, I don't think it's a limited time thing with Dr. Kim. He calls it his "Making Bariatrics Affordable" program. Other doctors sometimes have similar programs. My doc, Dr. Jayaseelan, does this also. My surgery total cost, including hospital, is going to be less than $6,000 out of my pocket, because I do have a hiatal hernia. With the crazy way my insurance covers bariatrics, if I had it done under the bariatrics coverage of my plan, my out of pocket would have been more like twice that.

    Pre-Op Diet Tips?

    Stand Up Surgery?

Hmm, that does sound odd. I've watched several sleeve surgeries on YouTube and they were all lying flat. I'm going to ask my doc when I see him next.

    September Sleevers!

I'll be having my surgery with Dr. Jay from Dallas Bariatrics. Anyone else in the north Texas area?

    September Sleevers!

Assuming all pre-op tests go well, my husband and I will both be sleeved on 9/11. I just found out and am still kind of numb. We've been working on this for a year now, and I knew we were getting close, but when the doctor's office gave me a date, it just blew me away. I'm so excited I can hardly sit still!

    Insurance help

My husband and I are in a similar situation. We live in Texas and have UHC through our employers, but WLS is covered by our plans. However, the way the surgery is covered is separate from the way everything else is covered and has it's own special deductibles and co-pays. Long story short, once you've finally jumped through all the hoops (including a year-long medically supervised diet) and been approved, you are still going to end up paying a minimum of $18,000 out of pocket. We also talked to Dr. Kim's office about the Making Bariatrics Affordable program, but ultimately we decided to go with the Dallas Bariatric Center, with Dr. Jayaseelan. They have a similar program, and it will end up costing up approximately $4,800 each for the surgery. We've already had our initial consult with Dr. Jay and plan for my husband to get sleeved in September and for me to get sleeved once we can save up enough money to pay for it. At the very latest, it would be September 2015, but I'm hoping we can make it more like March or April 2015.
  24. Praying for you, Janifer. Are you and your husband each having surgery on the same day? My husband and I are both wanting to have it and starting with all of the testing and insurance requirements, but I never gave much thought to how we would actually schedule the surgeries for each of us.
