Surgery 2 days ago. What now?!

Does your doc have you on a PPI like Prilosec? That would help with the burning for sure and probably with the burping stuff up.

    Taste buds changed

I'm only at ten weeks out, so I can't say for sure. However, some things that I used to love make me nauseated just to think about them now. I sat here one day at work last week with a box of doughnuts on my desk all day and never once was even tempted because the smell is just gross to me now. I used to LOVE doughnuts and in the past would have probably eaten 3 or 4 of them. I feel pretty much the same about any sweets now. Heck, I accidentally ate a regular greek yogurt last week with like 18 grams of sugar instead of the light ones with 7 grams and I thought I was going to die because I felt so sick afterwards.

    not to scare anyone

Holy cow! My husband and I actually had a consultation appointment with this place that we ended up cancelling. Our plan was to have consultations with him and with Dr. Jay and see which one we felt more comfortable with. In the end, after our appointment with Dr. Jay, we liked him and his staff so much that we just cancelled our other consult appointment.
  4. I'm not a doctor, and I didn't even stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but I'd keep doing what you've been doing. It worked, it didn't do you any harm, and it's well within (if not below) the general guidelines for what you should be eating.

    Is it possible?

From the pre-op diet and the first week, I had lost around 15 pounds at my 1 week checkup. At my 2 week checkup, I was UP 6 pounds! I was devastated and thought the same things you're thinking now. But after about another 2 weeks, things changed for the better. I'm now 10 weeks out and have lost 56 pounds. Just hang in there and trust the process. It really does work!

    Feeling so depressed and tired

Honestly at that point, I would lean towards it being the anesthesia. For some reason I didn't have any issues this time, but every other time I've been under general anesthesia, I've felt worn out and blue for about 3 or 4 weeks afterwards.
  7. Thanks, but it's the doc who deserves the kudos. My husband and I both had the same surgery that morning and both went home that evening. I think our surgeon must have an especially gentle touch because we had no complications, and almost no pain. I couldn't even begin to tell you which of the incisions was where the stomach came out because none of them hurt. I've had multiple laparoscopic surgeries in the past and none of them went as smoothly as this one.
  8. Laparoscopic VSG and hernia repair at 7:30 am, out the door on my way home by 5:30 pm.

I know this is silly... but I gotta rant

I know this thread is a couple of months old, but I just read it and felt the need to contribute. I've recently joined several Facebook trading posts, and I'm stunned at the number of people who don't know the difference between sell and sale. People are always posting things like "I need to sale this item today" or "blue bicycle for sell."

    Update!

    impressive!
  11. My husband and I were outpatient. We live about 2.5 hours away from the hospital where the surgery was done, so a friend drove us in that morning and home that evening. My surgery was around 8 and he was right after me. We both had hernia repair and sleeve done. After we each woke up in the recovery room, they had us get up and walk to our rooms. We walked a lot, sipped juice, had a popsicle, and just talked and watched tv until around 5:30, then they let us go. In no way am I knocking the experiences of others because I know every person is different, but based on our experience, I can't even imagine why anyone would need to stay one night, much less three or four like some have had to do. We had to sleep sitting up the first night because of the gas, but were able to do anything else we wanted, really. The only thing which could had been a problem we took care of ahead of time. We have 2 large Rottweilers, and they like to jump up on us to get their snuggles sometimes. We taught them before surgery to go to the chair in the living room and jump up on it instead so that we could love on them without having 120 enthusiastic pounds land on our tummies.

    What is your WLS Song?

My husband and I had surgery the same day. Our song is "Here's to Us" by Halestorm.

    September Sleevers!

Awesome! I can definitely say that it was by far the best thing my husband and I have ever done for ourselves. We're not even a month out and he's off all diabetes drugs and we're both off of blood pressure meds. Each of us have lost around 30 pounds and just feel so much better than before. It's great! Is your surgeon local or in Dfw or somewhere else?

    Phone apps

I tried myfitnesspal because so many folks like it, but it just doesn't do it for me. I tried several others that were recommended in my nutrition classes, but in the end I found one I like better than any of them. It's Daily Burn Tracker. I use the the free version and love it. On the phone app, it clearly displays the calories, fat, carbs, and protein for the day as you add the foods you've eaten. It also has the bar code scanner and I've only found one food so far that the scanner didn't recognize.
  15. The poster that mentioned diarrhea is only two weeks post op. According to my surgeon's office and the FAQs on this forum it's totally normal to have diarrhea for a few weeks after surgery.

    September Sleevers!

The post op eating levels vary so much that some are eating eggs 2 or 3 days after surgery. As long as you didn't gorge yourself and you don't do it again, I bet you'll be fine. Of course, I'm a secretary not a surgeon.
  17. I was sleeved yesterday morning around 9:30. Woke up in recovery around 11:30 or so, walked from the recovery room to a private room just after noon. Spent the afternoon drinking and walking. Left to go home around 5:30. Short, sweet, and feeling pretty good so far.

    September Sleevers!

We're home now, we live a few hours away from the hospital so we didn't get home until about an hour ago. I still feel pretty good, just some soreness. The hubs is much better now. Right after I posted earlier, they got him out of bed and into a chair. He hasn't needed any pain meds since.

    September Sleevers!

Surgery was this morning and it all went well. I'm a little sore, but nothing major. However, my husband has been in quite a bit of pain. They've had to give him narcotics several times already, but he's starting to feel better. Love Dr. Jay!

BlessedOne83, my surgery is tomorrow morning with Dr. Jay. I'm so excited I can hardly stand it!

    NSV: I actually ankles :-)

I have no idea how to post pictures, but congratulations! I look forward to meeting my ankles again someday, lol.

    Sleeved and not felt "full"

Have you talked to your doc or NUT? That's my biggest fear, that I will still feel hungry all the time afterwards.

    September Sleevers!

    Good deal!

    September Sleevers!

Yay for September 11th sleeves! My hubby and I both get sleeved that morning.
