    Food question

I lived on hot and sour soup for days at a time during the first week post-op because it just tasted so good and went down so easily.
  2. As someone you HAVE helped, I can say with authority that she is wrong.
  3. I'm so sorry you went through all that bs. Speaking for myself, I will say that I need you here so please don't go anywhere! <3

    Pocket Protein

I am totally not a scientific type person, so can someone use small words to explain to me how GENEPRO works? How is it possible to get 30 grams of Protein from a tablespoon, when a tablespoon only contains 15 grams?

    Pro op testing

I didn't even have a chest X-ray, just ekg and blood work.

    Post op nutrition

I puréed the heck out of all kinds of soups, stews, chili, beans, etc. puréed was a pretty easy stage except when I was doing a lot of canned soups because it was a bit much in the sodium department. But if it was homemade stuff, then all was well.
  7. I had surgery on Thursday the 11th and was back to work on Monday the 22nd. If I could have worked from home, I could have started working probably a full week earlier, meaning I'd have only missed two work days.
  8. I HATE needles. Like, seriously hate them. I cringe and close my eyes when I get any shot and usually cry when I get an IV. That said, the lovenox shots are surprisingly easy to take. I only actually felt the needle once in the 10 days I had to do it. Other than that one time, I literally could not even feel the needle.

    Help....please

I second the food tracking. I've read that tracking your food is one of the best ways to stay on course because you can clearly see if you start getting off course. Although it sounds like you don't really have a course, which sucks. I am not a doctor or medical professional in any way, but I can tell you what my plan is and maybe you can adjust it to suit your needs. I'm 3 months post-op, have lost 62 pounds, and am eating between 800 and 1,000 calories a day. I aim for 80 to 100 grams of Protein and no more than 40 to 60 grams of carbs. I try to avoid sugar and simple carbs like white rice, white bread, potatoes, etc. I don't really track fat, but I do stick with low fat in things like cheese because the low fat seems to have more protein. I typically have a premier Protein shake for Breakfast around 7, a snack like a boiled egg or 1/2 cup of cottage cheese around 10, lunch like chicken salad or lunch meat and cheese around 1, a light greek yogurt around 4, dinner like baked fish and steamed veggies around 7, then a small snack before bed that I usually choose based on whether I need more calories or protein or what by that point in the day. I do not drink carbonated beverages or alcohol, and I try to avoid what I call empty eating, like sugar free pudding, which may not be bad for you but also don't really offer you anything. After meeting with a personal trainer to plan a workout routine, here's what I do. 3 to 4 days a week, I spend 30 minutes on the treadmill or bike and 30 minutes doing the gym's circuit training. Then 2 or 3 days a week, I do some relatively light weight training. I hope this helps. If you want, feel free to private message me and I'll do my best to give you whatever answers I may have.

    Your dream outfit

After plastics, I want to wear anything sleeveless. I'm SOOOOO tired of always wearing 1/2 or 3/4 length sleeves to cover up my wings. And great shoes. I remember that once upon a time I loved cute shoes but these days, I wear comfy flats only. I want to get back to where I can wear cute shoes and get a pair of Louboutins.
  12. I know I'm in the minority around here, but I can't stand it. The strawberry was so nasty I spit it out.
  13. Frozen Cool Whip, straight out of the bowl. Peanut Butter mixed with powdered sugar. Cream cheese mixed with regular sugar. Haagen Dazs dulce de leche ice cream with coarse ground sea salt. Bacon, egg, & cheese biscuit from McDonald's topped with grape jelly. Damn, just typing all that made me nauseous.
  14. Praying for you both @nprcowboy.

    Muscle vs Fat

Yep, yep. Not everyone grasps the concept. I remember a guy at school once arguing with me that a ton of feathers didn't weigh near as much as a ton of lead.

    Muscle vs Fat

Because muscle is denser. A pound of muscle takes up less room than a pound of fat. So if you're gaining muscle while you're losing fat, you could be staying the same weight yet losing inches.

    Dr. Nick Nicholson Plano, Tx.

That's very odd. We consulted with two surgeons before deciding to go with the sleeve, and both of them were very thorough. If you're considering seeing someone else in the area, I highly recommend Dr. Jayaseelan at Dallas Bariatrics Center. He's awesome in basically all ways. At our initial consult, we spent close to an hour with him before sitting down with one of his staff to discuss insurance coverage. His staff was always there when we had questions and the nurse even called us a couple of times after surgery to check and see how we were doing.
  18. You're well on your way! And you're pretty darn adorable either way!

    My Chocolate-Free Purse

Share a pic of the purse? I love looking at purses...
  21. That can't be accurate. When I lost weight before, my fingers overlapped. Now they don't touch. My frame hasn't changed sizes, I've just gotten fatter.

    Clothes

Thrift shops. I've got all their schedules down so I know which day is half price day at the Salvation Army or which day goodwill changes their sale items. Once I'm at goal, I'll probably go back to buying new, but for now this works.

What song reminds you of your journey?

My husband and I both had the surgery the same day. Our journey's theme song is Here's to Us by Halestorm.
  24. My surgeon's office gave us a schedule of when to eat and approximately how much to eat each time. We also both track our food in dailyburn so that makes it easy to see if we're starting to stray off-plan. As for the meds, I went and bought two of those pill containers that have am and pm sections for every day. I fill each of ours up at the beginning of the week and it keeps us on track.

    WLS is an interest?!

Before I go any further, please understand that I'm not badmouthing you. In past relationships, I could have been you! I could have written your message almost word for word because that's how I felt about my partner at the time. First, your surgery may not be a hobby exactly, but all the little details that we all get so into and talk about all the time, like this site? Definitely a hobby. Him listening to you talk about how you wonder what size bougie your surgeon uses or whether you'll have any problems with dumping syndrome or whatever is exactly the same as you listening to him talk about his favorite anime characters or when the next game in his favorite franchise is coming out. Second, why are you the only one who defines what "together time" consists of? While I would personally rather shoot off my own big toe than play League of Legends, it's fun to him and I would venture a guess that playing it together would be more interactive than watching a movie. Third, if this is how you feel about him, please don't marry him. It may be easy to just stay with him but you deserve better than this. So does he. My ex-husband and I were this way with each other but didn't want to divorce because it would be hard. Also because we really did love each other, we were just really shitty as a couple. We finally decided to divorce before it got so bad that we hated each other. It was the best thing we could have ever done. Once the strain of being married to the wrong person was gone, our relationship as friends grew better than ever. We didn't have kids, but if we had I can guarantee that they would have been better off with us as divorced friends than as married people who had no respect for each other.
