Weight loss stopped
JollyBigChick replied to Yennydayerman's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I weigh myself everyday. which I know the doctors or whoever would say don't do that. it just became a habit in the beginning because I was amazed how fast I was dropping weight. but this is what I noticed, I would be the same weight everyday for like 2 weeks then all of a sudden the next day id be 5 pounds lighter. weird. but that's how it was for me. -

Protein Shakes ? Food ?
JollyBigChick replied to RDCLambert's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with mgteacher. everything you plan before surgery will go out the window after surgery. I bought a lot of jello, flavor drink packs to add to bottled water, broth, protein powder, baby food, and other crap. after surgery my taste buds changed so much I couldn't tolerate most of what I bought. a lot tasted nasty to me. when I came home I drank water, beef broth with pepper and a looooot of sugar free popsicles. I loved popsicles because they were ice cold and my mouth would get so dry I couldn't talk. even now I keep a bottle of water with me at all times because if I talk a lot my my gets so dry. never happened before surgery. for me all protein shakes are nasty, even now I am 18 months out and cant drink protein shakes without gagging on them. I didn't puree any foods. I just stuck with soft food like yogurt, mashed potatoes with a little bit of gravy. a few times I had sugar free vanilla ice cream. I used to crave anything ice cold. and anything soft I could mush up in my mouth like cheese. you can get as many ideas as you want from people but really you need to find what works for you. they will tell you repeatedly not to drink anything with calories. water only. and sip water alllll day long. for me the problem with that is if I drink all day like youre supposed to I never get hungry and cant eat. so I modified what they told me to do. I will drink things with calories because you need calories for energy. not saying I drink soda and shit. I drink juice by a company called bottlehouse. they are just like naked juices but much cheaper. you can get them at walmart right next to naked. they are only $3.00 or so for a bottle when naked is $5.00. if I drink something with a lot of calories I consider it a meal. sometimes I blend the juice with yogurt. that makes a glass about 300 calories or so. so I consider it breakfast. everybodys story is slightly different. everybody tolerates different foods in different ways. like I had never had dumping. sugar has no effect on me. I was terrified of dumping from everything I have heard people say. then one day about year out, dumping happened I think. what did it for me was cereal and milk. I had eaten dry cereal, I had drank milk, but something about the combo of milk and cereal together made me dump. you should follow doctors orders, but sometimes you have to tweak things. what works for one person may not work for another. -
Dark/thick skin

I used to scrub it raw too when I was a teen. then just realized it was useless. I have not noticed any difference when i use certain soaps or anything. the only thing I have noticed over the years is that a light scrubbing to get off all dead skin helped lighten it but not take it away. I am sure the only way to possibly get rid of it for good is by losing weight. what I used to do is this, you know when you get out of the shower and your skin is damp after you towel dry but you aren't still soaking wet and dripping, I would start to rub the areas. all the dead skin kind of makes little balls of yuck as you rub. then id get back in the shower to rinse of again to get off all the little balls of dead skin. usually just my neck, inside of elbows, knees, and ankles, the spots I couldn't hide well. I wasn't concerned about armpits too much. just the places people could see. -

oh I have so much to say. but I am not sure if I should. id be afraid one of her patients would tell her some girl online was talking about her. overall the surgery has been successful for me in the weight loss aspect. I am 18 months out and lost 168 pounds. I was 330 now 162. I am pretty sure my weight loss has stopped now. I have been bouncing between 161 and 165 for the last month or so. I am not sure if I have negative opinions of dr mccloskey or just the surgery in general. my surgery did not go as planned. i had laparscopic surgery. then the next day i had to be cut open all the way. i have a scar down my abdomin about 10 inches long. I feel she is a good doctor. but I have been complaining about chronic upper abdominal pain for a year. I started saying something last October when I was 6 months out. i was told i went through major surgery with the nature of my surgery and what happened. they said give it more time to feel better. i complained at 9 months. was told the same thing. 12 months told the same. just ask the same questions. what are you eating, are your taking vitamins. how much of what. how often do you move your bowels. i keep telling them the same thing. finally at 12 months out and 9 months of complaining i was sent for a catscan. nothing shows up and i am back to square one. so then i decided to go to my primary care doctor. she ask all the same questions i answer for mccloskey. my primary care doctor showed concern that i say i had gastric bypass and i only go to the bathroom once a week. yet mccloskey didn't seem alarmed by that. a weeks worth of waste in your intestines will cause severe pain according to my primary care. on my own intuition i started adding fiber power to everything i eat and drink. what do you know, i have been going to the bathroom at least every other day and i do feel a world better. but i still have something going on in me.i still have constant pain. i feel like i am screwed right now because i don't have insurance at this time. i say i have pain and the first thing she says is i cant give you narcotics. wtf? well, that's just a portion of my story. i left out everything pertaining to the actual surgery. just do not go into surgery thinking everything will be smooth sailing. crap happens during surgery they try to tell you are normal risks. -

I am a victim of this. I say victim because I always felt it was so f**king embarrassing. and doing everything I could do to hide it. it started when I started puberty oh so long ago. it is related to pcos and obesity. though I do not have pcos. never had diabetes either. but it is a warning that I would no doubt have developed diabetes in the future. I did a lot of research on my own, the doctor I saw as a teen didn't really say a lot. all he said was that it was related to childhood obesity and prescribed some cream that turned my affected body parts red, raw and painful. he said it may or may not go away when I was finished with puberty and or lost weight. what MinnesotaDreaming23 posted is all correct. I think it is on a person to person basis. but I can tell you that mine went away. I am 18 months post op. I noticed awhile ago that it was gone from my neck. I just looked last week and realized that for the first time in as long as I can remember my armpits are white. only someone with this condition can understand the feeling of that if they were as embarrassed as I was about having it. -
