Hi I am new to this world... I have just jumped my last hoop and visited with the nutritionist. So, I was given two options for my pre-op diet. Here is my question though.. All the shakes that are listed as meal replacements have suralose (splenda) or aspertame. I get nasty migraines from both, I like the dreamsicle by Jay Robb, but that is just a protein shake. Does anyone know of any meal replacement shakes that are made with stevia instead of splenda?

Love love love this product!!! I use it with the spray applicator. I agree with getting a lighter shade, I'm still using the dark brown but it mostly matches my roots( I haven't died my hair for fear more will fall out).

I had pretty thin hair to begin with that you could could see my scalp more than most by my part. Since WLS it has gotten much worse. ( I am 4.5 months out) I will say I have discovered toppix and it has made the unsightly loss more manageable personally. Despite the great weight loss results, losing my hair in this much quantity hasn't done wonders for my self esteem, so I am so glad someone on here told me about this awesome product.

Artificial Sweeteners
purplegerber replied to Lynnheb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do. I have issues with all the "alitols" (malitol, sorbitol), splenda, aspartame, anything other than stevia bothers me . They all give me headaches. Finding protein powders that didn't have the offending ingredients has been so much fun. -
extreme hair loss
purplegerber replied to Madelyne Bonthron's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am trying biotin shampoo.http://www.vitacost.com/avalon-organics-thickening-shampoo-biotin-b-complex-therapy-14-fl-oz-13 I got mine at whole foods (they had a big big bottle for 15 or little bottle for 10- I went with the big bottle). It has only been 3 days, so still too early too tell. But I feel your pain, I was sleeved in February, have pcos, and have thinning hair to begin with. If it gets much worse I may consider purchasing a wig. -
I have PCOS. I am 3 months out and have lost 52lbs, but am working out a lot. I think it may be harder, but definitely still seeing progress.

I had to bump up my dosage. In my case my heartburn got worse not better.

So, I like pilates, but I wouldn't say I am a total practitioner nor do I do it often enough. I would say, Pilates would not be my first choice of exercise at 3 weeks out, because it has such a strong emphasis on building your core. In our case, our core muscles have been ripped. I tried Pilates a month out, and cried after doing 1 minute. I felt like everything was ripping. I am three months out now, and tried to do a couple moves last night (such as the 100) and survived. I am not coordinated so I stick to the elliptical machine and bike at the moment. I have tried spinning (which I used to love) but ended up hurting myself from doing too much too soon. My suggestion is similar to sleeved's suggestion go to a gym and try different things out. Before you join, see if they have a trial membership to make sure you like what you see before being committed financially to one place. If you don't want to go to gym yet, there are always dvds to try out. Amazon also has ones you can rent - so dropping 3 bucks for a type of class you don't like is better than purchasing a dvd that is going to collect dust.

Getting depressed because of my slow loss!
purplegerber replied to Scylla's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, looking at your tracker I see you have lost 64 lbs already... THAT IS AMAZING!!!!!!! I won't lie, I come on here and often come on and see the gigantic drops and get upset with my 1-2 lb loss a week (this week I lost 0 so far). The one thing I try to remember (and this is hard) that this is my journey and nobody else's, I am not in a competition with anyone and everybody's body is different. I didn't get this overweight over night and it is crazy for me to think it will magically go away overnight. I tell myself this on a daily basis, some days it is more effective than others. -
Thanks for your input. I am just at 3 months now, so I guess i am right on schedule. I read a lot of what other posters wrote about hair loss, but just wanted reassurance it eventually stops and my hair will start growing back at one point. Thank you all for your insight

I know this is an often discussed topic/side effect, and three months after my surgery I am experiencing it. So, I was just wondering what works and what doesn't to impede the hair from leaving my head? Anyone have any success with the biotin shampoo's? How long is this going to last? Any help, any feedback, and reassurance this too shall pass would be greatly appreciated.

Whats ur favorite puree?
purplegerber replied to QueenBeeBee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i had hale and hearty lentil chili pureed A LOT. I didn't like wendy's chili pureed, and it didn't agree with me. Other than that I think I consumed Chobani 100- I liked how it had fiber in it Good luck, remember this phase will be over soon. (honestly, i was not a happy camper during pureed). -

You look great! Congratulations -
I went to my first spin class in about ooh 6 years yesterday. I forgot how tough it is, up until now I have been biking with med- to moderate resistance, and I thought i was ready boy was I wrong. I hurt and am walking funny today. I might wait till next week to try another class, or at least I am walking normal again. As much as I hurt, I am so proud of myself for going, I was sleeved in February, but only started working out again a month and a half ago. Kudos for you for going.

Just was wondering if anyone had tried these after being sleeved and if they were well tolerated?

Shiritaki Noodles?
purplegerber replied to purplegerber's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I find them generally by the tofu in the refrigerated section. Good Luck. I have found them in both my local shoprite and stop and shop (not sure where you are in the country) but I know whole foods also sells them. -
Shiritaki Noodles?
purplegerber replied to purplegerber's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glad you liked them truck. I might wait a bit longer (maybe at 4 months or so) before I try them. ( I was sleeved 2/12). By the way congrats on your progress!! -
Shiritaki Noodles?
purplegerber replied to purplegerber's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Roo did your sleeve handle them well? That is what i am most afraid of. I have had them pre surgery, and i got used to their odd texture/taste. I just wasn't sure how well tolerated they were with the sleeve. Since I have been sleeved, pasta is not my friend( and it really shouldn't be I guess). -
Shiritaki Noodles?
purplegerber replied to purplegerber's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just be careful. I used to eat them after reading about hearing about from Hungrygirl's pretend fettuccine alfredo and liked them. I am trying to be more careful with my carb intake, but really miss Pasta. -
Shiritaki Noodles?
purplegerber replied to purplegerber's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Shiritaki Noodles are made from Tofu. They are lower carbs and not made out of "pasta". I can't handle pasta ( i know i shouldn't but i tried some anyway) and was wondering if anyone had any luck with these. -
So I am two months out now, and am going out to a relatives house to celebrate Easter. Every year she cooks same thing. Ham, mashed potatoes, some sort of veggie and way too many desserts. Before I decide to pack a meal and look odd to the other guests (as well as insulting the hostess) I was wondering is it safe to eat ham? I have been really limiting in what I eat. I have chicken breasts, ground turkey, ground beef and fish. I just don't remember ham or pork products being discussed. Any help, insight or tops on surviving would be greatly appreciated.

Soft foods...what are they, really?
purplegerber replied to aNewTanya's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know about others, but I could not handle peanut butter during this phase. I know it is considered a soft food, but my new tummy did not like it at all. I also had fat free refried beans on my list during the soft food phase.
