Broth Question - Liquid Stage
Fluffnomore replied to Misti M's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have the beef broth, especially if you like it. It is much harder to get any calories and liquid in if you don't like the taste. The worst thing the sodium will do is help you retain water, which, given that we have a tendency to dehydrate might not be such a bad thing. -
Will I Still Be Able To Get The Surgery?
Fluffnomore replied to Ree's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon said "I don't expect that many people will really lose weight pre-op." Now, your mileage may vary here…but that was his opinion. I did end up losing after all, about 4-8 pounds (I don't know what the final weigh in was, because I'm going off my last pre-op visit.) It's possible it won't be a big deal but you might want to double check. -
Daily Protein, Sugar, Fat Goals/limits
Fluffnomore replied to outwithbenjiboi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 2+ weeks out, I'm hitting Protein fine, but I feel like my carbs are too high and fats too low as I transition back to "real" food. I am not a fan of the idea of nonfat everything and artificial sweeteners that my nutritionist is so set on. No one has (yet) given me an upper limit on carbs; I think because I'm supposed to be using artificial sweeteners if at all. It's all very interesting. At this point I can't do much about it, but I am watching it carefully as I go forward. -

Remember when I told you I could lose weight, but you'd still be ugly? -

I really hate having to dig for recent topics in our little corner of the bariatric world.

I can't believe it! They had cream of asparagus soup. Next course was a big salad; I just said that I'd recently had surgery and wasn't allowed to eat salad yet. The only thing that anyone gave me any "crap" over was that they had cheesecake and I declined it. So relieved. It was really so much easier than I thought it was going to be. Proof, once again, that there is no good reason to worry about things you can't control. Thanks for your nice advice and support!

Award For Client Of The Month At The Gym- Never Would Have Happened Before

So cool! I can't wait to get back to my gym. About 3-4 more weeks. -
Weight Loss Way Slowed At Week 7....normal?
Fluffnomore replied to morphinmom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It happened to a friend of mine. The advice she got from the surgeon was "back to basics." Focus on dense Protein, logging every bite, and no sliders. Being 3-4 months behind her, I benefited from all of her extra Protein drinks and yogurt that she had to get rid of. I don't know if this helps or not, but that's the advice she got. I don't know why some people lose quickly, and for some every pound is a hard-won victory. But you are not alone. -
Surgery Thursday, shower Saturday. I spent a lot of time sleeping Friday anyway.

Yes, I went up about 4 pounds one day. Then it dropped off again. The dangers of weighing every day, I suppose.

It was too much fun watching everyone attempt logic. I didn't feel up to it myself. Save me a hot dog.

Tara, hi and welcome. Hang out with us any time. I welcome information about your experience! I just read the Nana thread and I have to say whoa, Nellie. I have this one family friend who is a really loud and obnoxious shit-disturber. She loves to argue about everything. Some of her premises may be valid, but she bases her arguments on her opinion and rejects any information that doesn't go along with her beliefs. Also, she believes that anyone who disagrees with her is just uninformed, or hasn't done her research, or is stupid. I love her, but she exhausts me. That's what the thread reminded me of. Of course everyone isn't that way. But I've been here a week and haven't seen anything nearly that fun with the sleevers. Yet. Mwa ha ha.

Am I falling back to old habits
Fluffnomore replied to FRED1977's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Go Fred go! -
Yes. My current plan is Protein shake on the way; Water when they start passing mimosas/white wine; and quietly asking what the options are once I get there. It just makes me nervous because I'm sitting with 8-10 people and I only know a couple of them. Thanks for the support. I don't know why this is freaking me out.

Why not take the first course or two, and see how it goes? Two thoughts. I'm in my 40s and always used to want to go back to medical school. I also have an artist husband who does very well, but I knew at the time that I was really thinking about this (my early 30s) that he probably couldn't handle taking on the responsibility for our kids during residency, etc. I also didn't want to take on the financial burden of taking the necessary undergrad classes and medical school. (That was prescient; it would have suffocated us.) I went to graduate school instead and loved every minute of it. I wouldn't worry so much about your husband supporting you, if you would do it for him. Marriage is about this kind of compromise.

I have already fallen off the wagon.
Fluffnomore replied to Jenni77's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I'm trying really hard NOT to go back to the "it's only a cheeseburger, everyone lighten up" mentality, because that's what got me here in the first place. Maybe I won't have this resolve forever but as the OP says, we spent a considerable amount of effort and money to get here. I wouldn't put the wrong fuel in my car's gas tank, especially if I knew it might damage the engine. I think my new stomach deserves at least that much consideration. Is it trite to put it that way? Probably, but so far it is working for me. Note: i have a very strict post-op diet and progression. So I can't speak to how I might feel about this if I was already on "regular" foods. Other note: I don't know why my posts always come back to cheeseburgers. -
It's being catered at a banquet hall (not a restaurant) so I'm sure there aren't really any special requests other than maybe vegetarian.

15 Things Jesus Did Not Say
Fluffnomore replied to gamergirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There was a family in my town that had one of those huge Mercedes SUVs with the license plate FRMGOD. I always use to say to it as it passed by, "Nope. I am SURE that's straight from the dealership over on the boulevard." -

You've inspired me. I'm going to start telling people that my operation was a sex change.

Fine. Fine. I have just had a heated argument about a King Tut essay with my 11 year old, and I just don't have anything else to give you.

Reading back over my posts, it appears that I've been doing that for a long time this evening. Therefore I can only say your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries and try to redeem my dignity.
