I'm ready for a laugh or too! How about you?!

RJ, the problem is me! I did like the cars sliding down the street…. And in case it wasn't clear, I like the butt/car window goal for myself. xoxoxo

I'm ready for a laugh or too! How about you?!

It would have been funny if it hadn't hit so close to home. Then again, I'm the person that cringes at America's Funniest Home Videos when someone gets hurt, even if it is stupid and silly. In other news: butt and car window. Good goal!
  3. This is very common. Weight loss might help. But it also might have to do with childbearing, getting older…oh, any number of things. My friend calls this her "can't drink wine and dance" problem. If not, see a urogynecologist and discuss your options. I will say that the testing they do is among the most embarrassing medical experiences I have ever been through…I even sent an email to a couple of friends about it who still claim that they laughed so hard that they (no, not peed) cried. In the end, a few years ago I had a surgery done to shore things up so to speak. And it has really helped. I can jump rope! Cough without crossing my legs! Um, have a really bad case of bronchitis without wearing Depends. Etc.

I'm ready for a laugh or too! How about you?!

Three people I know well (including my husband) have seriously bit it on the ice in the last two weeks. One of them even had to have surgery and a 5 day hospital stay! That was painful to watch...

    Social Events

I've been to about 4 receptions (both work and non-work related), and maybe another 3 or 4 parties. The receptions included sit-down meals. The first was a couple of weeks out. I was staffing that one, so I had the kitchen bring me Soup with everyone's Entrees. People knew I had had surgery and weren't surprised. Same with the second. By the third and fourth, I was able to eat and drink a little more normally and no one noticed anything. The parties? Same thing. Unless you make a big deal of it, everyone else seems to be fine. As far as taking smaller amounts than you used to? Well, you can always say that you're not too hungry, that you're following a different nutrition plan, or that your stomach isn't quite agreeing with you today. They all work.

    I need some advice.

I didn't weigh myself until the post-op appointment (about a week later.) But for being, what, 10 days out? I think 14 pounds is fine, especially if you're talking since the day of surgery. It really is all over the map, you know?

    Reel me in, sleevers

I think there's room to be respectful of their choices and let them feel that way, since I certainly don't respond well to someone else telling me that my choices are wrong. Then again, I haven't had a lap band, and I truly don't know…just as banders don't know how we feel once we're sleeved. I could only go off which option made the most sense for me, and I'm happy with my choice. :-) Hope this helps.
  8. http://www.nbcnews.com/health/rooting-her-strangers-donate-50k-texas-girls-life-saving-obesity-2D11819010 This story popped up yesterday or the day before; strangers have jumped in to fund the surgery.

    Weight gain on soft foods?

If you look up "stall" in the forums you will find plenty of information on this. The fact is, your body will not necessarily behave in the way you expect it to, particularly in the early days. It thinks it is starving; it gets used to a new normal of sorts, and then we change it up again. I don't know how far you are, but the weight will come off. Just not necessarily how and when you expect it to. Once we lose all the Water weight (first couple of weeks) there is a period of time that is truly frustrating. But you will come out the other side. Good luck.

    Friggin Steri-Strips

You might not. I can still clearly see my incisions after 9 weeks but they do seem to even out a bit. Five years after gallbladder surgery, I have to look for my incisions. Really. They're there, but they have faded to almost nothing.

I'm having a bit of a tough time

Hey now. My 14 year old is not mean. But she can be bitchy, nagging, and implacable.
  12. I have been thinking about this. I have no regrets and though I hesitate to say it here an easy recovery despite a hiatal hernia repair. But I had had surgeries in the last 5 years and my gallbladder in particular was quite difficult to recover from. I was in the hospital for four days and didn't feel like myself again for several months. My friend who had hers removed this June was out of the hospital the same day as if nothing had happened. But her VSG recovery was tough for the first 5 days. Long winded way of saying that our bodies are strange and we really don't know how they are going to react to the trauma of surgery. We are so used to things going according to our plans in our lives that we don't always account for the fact that anything can happen. Please be kind to yourselves and try to honor the healing process. This part is a huge adjustment but it does get better.
  13. Okay. Everyone would do him. Nice! Go Mr. McButter! This is lovely.
  14. This may be a dumb question, but I was curious to see if, using the percentages, I could go "backwards" through the numbers. Turns out that the percentage numbers indicate the same number as my total weight lost. I might be doing the math wrong, or at the minimum doing the wrong equation. But I was multiplying the current fat percentage by the current weight to get the number of fat pounds, then multiplying the old fp by the old weight for the number of fat pounds, and then subtracting to see if the number was the same as total weight lost. It was. We can pretty much assume at this point that we are losing fat only, yes?

    NSV shout outs

I dragged a big old bucket of Rid Ice to the checkout at the hardware store today. So awkward to lift it. When I was swinging it into the car, I realized that it was 40 pounds. A little less than what I've lost already. Wowza.

    Dehydration

I like you anyway RJ. Fruit punch? Bleah…but actually the lemon/lime is the worst.

    Dehydration

I'm with RJ. The G2 is really great for me. I "like" the grape flavor best. The electrolytes seem to really help keeping things on track. The other things is that maybe you can take some time now to make more liquid choices as much as you can. Soups instead of Entrees, etc.

Skippy sounds like my 14 year old daughter.

  20. I worry about the attitude that it will solve everything…I think my husband has it. All I can do is be gentle but it is frustrating. Now he has the idea because I am losing weight my life is suddenly better. Uh, no. I still am procrastinating about writing a grant, I still worry about juggling what I juggle. I happen to do it in a smaller size of jeans. We had this discussion about when we can retire the other day. He said, "But you love your job and it's going great!" I said, "I like my job, but it is work. I have issues with it, it is tedious, I don't like everyone I am in contact with, and I have a couple of things I'm worried about. It is work." He has a bit of magical thinking about this. He was shocked to hear that I am not delighted with every aspect. Anyway…it is the same with weight loss. With marriage. With families, as M2G said so well. I'm also way too young to retire, but that is another story.
  21. Oh, FeedYourEye, yes. My family feels very free to eat my leftovers. I often order specifically so that I can have 2 or 3 meals out of something. But this behavior passes on to the kids too. My 11 year old just the other day took down my remaining 3 oz of calamari. I was like, "Really??? That was my lunch!" "I didn't know." "But you did, because you just 'confessed.'" This was two days after searching out and eating my remaining two Protein bars. As people say, they are kind of like candy. But they're also great for things like right before going to sit through a 2 hour rehearsal/church service. Sigh...

    Hoping for success

If you're full liquids you can do more with creamy soups and shakes. But for the love of God, bran? That tears up my insides when I'm healthy. I can't stress enough that you need to stick to plan. Please don't make any substitutions or move forward without full approval. And the PPI really should help.

    How bad is the nausea?

I have a history of nausea with general anesthesia so I made sure they were giving me anti-nausea meds the whole time in the hospital. By the time I got home, I didn't need them. I rarely have any now, it's more discomfort if I eat or drink too quickly.

    Hair loss

There's another brush on the market called the Wet Brush, and I have found the same thing. I have very fine hair, and use a wide toothed comb first, and then the Wet Brush. I think it minimizes the breakage.
