I've spent about 5 -10 years refusing to be photographed except when it was impossible to refuse. I hear you. I hear you. -
What Did You Have To Take for your Hospital Stay?
Fluffnomore replied to SnowDaisy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Most hospitals were built before we were hooked up to all of these electronics. Therefore, plugs for laptops or phone chargers are too far away or awkward to reach from your hospital bed. -
What Did You Have To Take for your Hospital Stay?
Fluffnomore replied to SnowDaisy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The extension cord was crucial for me. -
My doctor said at my one month appointment that I could reintroduce, but highly recommended a one drink maximum. Like Louise above I do not see a real difference in how it affects me. I follow that guideline for the most part. I need more water in my diet anyway, so usually I will have my one a few times a week and follow it up with a huge glass of water or crystal light.
-
Well, I took my magnesium earlier and will follow up with Calcium. And about a gallon of Water. I might have some fish oil around here too, better take a look. I will say the massage hurt like a bitch. I haven't had one in a long time and I asked for the deep tissue on purpose rather than a frou-frou, hot stone, whatever. The aches are still there but there's a tiny bit more mobility. I think. As I said to my husband afterwards, it is really amazing to me what "rich" people do in their spare time. The people who could most use massage are probably the ones who work on their feet all day. Add frequent massage to my list of things I will do when I win the lottery.

I take it back. TODAY is an off day. Just got back from using my Christmas gift certificate for a deep tissue massage.

I have been on every side of this debate…as someone who has two kids (11 and 14) and has worked almost the entire time. The fact is, now that I work at home I am more available to them for the little day to day stuff. As I said, I've been on every side of this. I think the assertion that women who work outside the home are not raising their children, for example…something I've heard a lot over the years…is complete crap. And I also understand your desire to be with them when you are not working. But here is the thing. This is not a long term, healthy strategy for me. In the 3 years I have been working at home, my kids (and husband) have come to depend on me and in some ways use me for more than they ever did. I have always been responsible for 90% of the childcare, all of the cooking and housework as my husband travels a lot, but in the first couple of years I worked at home I went out of my way to try to please everyone. My employers, my children, my husband, my volunteer positions. And in some ways sealed the nail into the coffin of needing WLS, because I came dead last. Always. So what I have decided since I did have WLS is that I NEED these 5 hours or so that I'm currently taking to exercise. I will need them when they stretch into 10 as I hope. Everybody else gets the majority of the other 163. They need to see me making good choices and putting my health first. Because then I will also be around for my kids and grandchildren for a long time to come. I can't judge what is right for you, and I really get that your time constraints are crazy! (Been there!) But I do not find what I do to be "me first" or selfish except in the best possible construct.

Hunger, exaustion and guilt
Fluffnomore replied to Stacy_wls's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think we all lose our minds with this surgery, just a little bit. You ONLY ate 850 calories, and as long as you got your Protein in, no big deal. Also, 66 g of carbs is not a huge amount. I know your NUT personally (LOL) and I am sure she would tell you you are doing great, probably even to eat more. PLUS you are only a few weeks out. Give yourself a break. Please. -
Seela, I think this is completely understandable. I work from home and so have a pretty flexible schedule. That said, I have to wrestle my time to exercise away from other things. For example, my CrossFit box has sessions at 6 am, 5:30 and 6:30 pm. That's it. Those also happen to be times that everyone at home "needs" me. I try to squeeze in a couple of 5:30 times per week and everyone can have dinner while I'm there or otherwise just deal. (Unfortunately I also work a lot of evenings, board meetings and rehearsals and such…so nothing is perfect.) I can work in the lap swimming usually when they're at school. But on the weekends it is the same thing. "Where are you going? Why are you going? You're getting thin. You're working out too much. I guess you have your OWN life and you are not worried about us. But we want to go out to lunch/breakfast/dinner. Who's going to make us breakfast/lunch/dinner" etc. You'll get there. But the other side is that if you are on your feet for 12 hours every day that is already a lot.

Oh god no. That is cumulative. Edited in wrong place. Today I swam 1500m.

I used to be CrossFit 2-3 days a week, because that is what my schedule (and the box's) could handle. I'm now transitioning with adding the lap swimming. I'd like to ideally see myself in some sort of a 3 days swimming/3 days CF schedule, but because I work so many evenings that will be difficult. Right now the goal is 4 days a week of something, and the next goal will be 5. I swam today because I was a little sore from last night and I wanted to get things moving. Four months ago a little soreness would have had me taking a rest day but I have started to realize that I lose the soreness faster if I work out anyway.

To tell or not to tell?
Fluffnomore replied to carson's mom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There are as many answers on this as can be. In my case, my trainers at the gym know, my mother, my immediate family (kids and husband), and several friends. It's not exactly that I have a problem telling people but I both live in a small community *and* my jobs have me working with around 100 volunteers on a regular basis. Short of sending out several group emails, something I would not have done even if I was having, say, leg surgery…I did not want to go into it with most people. I'm 11 weeks out now and aside from the first couple of weeks when I still had to be in social situations, it is amazing what a non-issue it is. It's possible that it may become more of one as I lose more weight, but I will cross that bridge when I come to it. I will also say that I had a hernia repair at the same time, and so for those who needed to know that I was having surgery, that is what I told them. The diet protocol is similar for the first few weeks anyway. I don't have any real feelings good or bad for what the "right" thing to do is. I think that everyone's circumstances are slightly different. Outright lying is difficult though…so I am pretty sure I won't be doing that. -
What do you do at the movies?
Fluffnomore replied to devonmae's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't eat. And I avoid the premium movie theaters where you "have to" buy a meal/popcorn/drink. -
I go in phases with all types of drinks. But no soda. I was drinking G2 for a while. I'll still do that from time to time. But I'm drinking the Target version of Crystal Light right now. In two weeks I'll probably be on Water with lemon. I loved Diet Dr. Pepper but it was a habit, and since it was mostly around meals (something I don't do anymore either) I don't miss it as much.

getting a cold post op..
Fluffnomore replied to gomekast's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 12 weeks (I think) and had a cold over Christmas/New Year's. Still have a tiny bit of gunk, but I have been able to work out through it and feel pretty okay. I sing, and it never got to the point that I couldn't perform. Probably not what you wanted to hear. If anything, I didn't get as sick as the rest of my family and feel pretty good now. -
Cross Fit: 2 down Swimming: 4200 m down. (That's the total. Not what I did today. I'm not crazy. At least not where this is concerned.)

OK, Call Me Crazy...
Fluffnomore replied to Pepper1382's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Ha! I would have loved to see mine. But it didn't occur to me to ask. -
I did love a fountain diet coke or diet Dr. Pepper before surgery. Haven't done it since. Sigh.
-
Okay, I did it. 55 min, 2200 m.
-
I've been hit with one thing and another this week. I'm trying to muster up the will to go do some laps from 12-1. Pray for me. Okay, that's overdramatic. But still.

Stall. Getting impatient.. 10 days in a stall
Fluffnomore replied to Carlotta1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Too little Protein? Dunno. My personal goal is 80-100, with no less than 60. Given that you're still having trouble working it in, start with the baby steps and make sure you get there. But 60 should be fine for now to maintain your muscle. Liquids are so important to stave off dehydration. Keep working at it. You got this.
