Major Hairloss..Any suggestions?
angiebell replied to sweet_thang0792's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Mine has been falling out for 2 years but new ones grow back. It is a pain because the bathroon floor is alway covered in hair. I just cut off 8" from my hair and it still falls out. You just have to learn to live with it. When the new ones stop growing back in then I will worry! -
Mine feels huge and it is a mini port. I just had in repositioned almost 2 weeks ago becasue it flipped on it's side and now it feels like it has turned on it's side again when I am standing up. I can feel it perfectly.
-
I just had surgery to repair my flipped port. I think it may be starting to flip again. They told me it is most common in active people. I don't have any stats to prove that though. I had my surgery on the 16th and think I did way to much on some home remodeling. I pray I didn't mess it up again. I am worried becuase My port is sticking out again and feels like it is turned. It is only when I stand up. Sitting on lying down it is flat. I have a mini port so it should not stick out.

Had my port revison done on August 16th. They put me under twilight sedation and the procedure went very smootly. The used the same incision and I said my port was tilted on it's side and was not completely flipped over. I am happy though because I have a mini port that was designed to to stick out too much and with it turned at an angle it kind of defeated the purpose. Now it lays flat, other than the swelling. I had an ugly scar too from the original surgery that kind of stuck out and it looks like that is fixed too. I had changed doctors and used Dr. Benavides for my port revision. So far I believe I am happy with the results. He also gave me a small fill of .2cc's.

My port was tilted and they could not access it the last time I went in for a fill. I had a mediport revision last week and they say it should stay in tact this time.

Thanks I will!

I'm have my port repositioned next Thrusday so I am so glad to hear that the surgeries went so smoothly. That makes me feel much better! Glad to hear you are recovering quickly.

Pain around the port, please help !
angiebell replied to geasjun-thai's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Give it time to heal. It takes several weeks but the pain will go away. I had the same experience. Now my port is flipped after 2 years and I have to get it repostioned. They can tell when you get your first fill if your port is turning. My was on it's side for a year and now has flipped completely over. That's what I would watch for because mine started out like yours. Pain, antibiotic, felt better, still no pain, but it has flipped. -
My port had always been flipped on it's side and I went for a fill yesterday after about a year of no fills and it has flipped completely over...so yes, I do believe it is progressive. If your port is at an angle you will most likely find that sometime in the future it will by unaccessible. I am having mine repaired on August 16th. I am surprised so many people are having this issue.

Bigbaby, I would be interested to hear the results. I went for a fill yesterday and it had been a really long time since I had gone for one and my port was completely flipped over too. They tried to inject from 7 different positions and everytime they hit metal. I am scheduled for surgery to have it flipped back over on August 16th. I'll be anxious to hear how yours goes.

I have experienced very similar situations. I have not lost weight in a few months and I also go through days when I can't eat. It is ususally around that time of the month. I went through the whole fill/unfill thing that I am just happy to be at a level where I can eat sometimes. On those days that I can't eat, I just wait because in a few days it will pass and I can eat again. I eat small portions and I have found one thing that helps on the days that you can't eat is to eat very slowly. You may PB a few times, but eventually you will loosen up and be able to eat something and keep it down. It may take me two hours to eat, but I am okay with that. Currently I wear a size 12. I would like to be 30 lbs lighter but I am grateful for the weight loss that I have experienced so far. I don't think you are in the minority though. My husband, best friend and myself were all banded within a month of one another and we have all had the same experience. I had an endoscopy when I was having all the trouble with fills and everything was fine. I think some people just have this reaction. I blame my lack of additional with loss on the fact that I have not been exercising. I do not overeat, sometimes I eat do not the most healthy choices, and sometimes I also eat ice cream:) Try eating at different times and if your PB's are like mine...it's more like the food just comes back up, no pain really. That's why I keep trying, because eventually I can eat a little. DO NOT try and over eat. If you can keep down a 1/2 of soup that is good. Hope that helps. I would still speak with you doctor. I jsut wanted you to know there are lots of people that have the same problem.

I'm Offically 100 pounds down!!!!
angiebell replied to Jammin & Losin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That is awesome! Congratulations! -
This haapened to me a few weeks ago and I slipped my stomach up through the band. I got to where I could not eat or drink and then I had to have all of my fill removed. I go back on Thursday to get a fill and hopefully my stomach as slipped back into place. The best thing to do is get an unfill if you are throwing up. Go that day or the next or you will most likely have problems.

There are running stores that can fit you for shoes. My husband is banded and is training for a marathon. He went to "Run On" here is Dallas. They made him run on a treadmill and then run a little on the ground so they could watch the impact points on his feet and then recommended the shoes that would work the best. I am sure there are running store in your area. They often sponsor marathon races. Good luck on your marathon! My boss just ran Comrades in South Africa last Friday. It is a 60 mile marathon. Can you imagine that?

Thanks Kashia, I will take your advice and make sure I am totally ready before getting a fill.

Slippage & erosion seems very frequent.

I went to the fill center yesterday after a night of horrible reflex. Yep, my band had slipped. The previous week I have a stomach virus and did thow up. That did it. I was advised to stay on liquids for 1 week and mushies the following week. All of my fill was removed and this should correct the problem. I already feel 100% better. Would I do it all over again, I mean get the lap band? Absolutely! The fills can be a difficult thing to get just right, but my blood pressure was 127/72 and I feel very healthy other than this minor set back. -
I went to the fill center yesterday and it was confirmed that my band has slipped. I am on liquids for a week and then mushies in a effort to hope that the situation corrects itself. All of my fill was removed.

Hi Dr C, I have a question about fills. It seems like everytime I get a fill I will be going along just fine and about a month to a month and a half after my fill...I get very restricted, which is what I am experiencing now. I can barely drink liquids beginning last Wednesday. I am able to keep coffee and room temperature Water down most of the time, but only in small amounts. I was sick with a virus on Monday and Tuesday and I did vomit. Am I just swollen or do I need an unfill? You can see my fill history below. Have you had any patients with the problems of fills kicking in so late after they get them? I have been at every fill level and don't know what to do. I had an EGD and everthing looked fine. I am afraid to try anything soild because I had the worst reflux ever all night long last night. I have never had reflux in the past. Your thougths would certainly be welcomed. Thank you for hanging out on LBT and answering all of our questions!

Hey Tired, I appreciate all your info. I had the same thing happen to me last night. I was sick with a virus last Monday and Tuesday had quite a lot of vomiting and I know that is a bad thing. I took phenegran to control it, but was a little late getting that into my system. I haven't been able to eat anything solid since then except for last Friday night. I was able to get down about 2 oz of prime rib. I did PB a little... but most of it stayed down. Last night I went to dinner with some friends and I ordered Soup and I just ate the broth and no veggies. When I got home a ate a tsp of Peanut Butter, trying to get some Protein. Big mistake. I PB'd for at least 2 hours. I layed down to go to bed and had reflux coming up all night long. I did not sleep AT ALL. I am constantly struggling with fills and unfills and for some reason I will get tight about a month after getting a fill. I had an EGD about a month ago and everything looked great. I am debating on whether or not I need another unfill. I think I am swollen from the virus. I have never in my life had refux and that was just awful. I took a pepsid last night and it did not help at all. I took a nexium this morning and I do feel a little better. My throat is really sore from the acid. I drank some hot tea and then some coffee (I needed the caffine) I know the coffee is not good for the reflux. I appreciate your post and glad you are doing better. I guess if I am not better by Thursday, then I will go back for an unfill. Best of luck on your weightloss.

Possible solution for PB's and restriction pain
angiebell replied to Jersey Jesse's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I happen to be eating lunch right now and was having a hard time getting it down. The deep breath part seemed to work okay but I don't recommend the sip of water. That made it worse for me. -
Well, after having to reschedule my EGD several times, it finally happened yesterday. Everything looked great. No hernia, erosion, or slippage. There is no explanation why I have had such a difficult time with my fills kicking in a month to a month and a half after I get them, making it impossible to eat or drink. I have a friend who was banded a month after me and she is experiencing the exact same issues that I am. Getting a fill and a month later she couln't eat or drink. Is anyone else having this same experience? I would be curious to know. I talked the doctor into letting me get another fill after my EGD and they added .2cc's giving me a total of 1.4 cc's. I was so hungry yesterday, I guess because I hadn't eaten all day. I had some very soft grits this morning with no problems. I hope now knowing I haven't slipped and have been filled at every possible level...1.5 too much...1.3 not enough...maybe 1.4 will be my magic number. I have been so frustrated with the fill thing and just don't want to have to ever get another one! Anyway, the doctor was pleased with my weight loss and said it is okay to lose it slow. One NSV for me was that a couple of weeks ago I went out with a group of people. Two of the girl thought my husband had a new wife! They couldn't believe how great I looked. I guess dropping about 30lbs has made a difference!

I have had the same issues as you can see by my fill record. Get and un-fill and let your stomach rest. You will be glad you did!

Thanks Alexandra that makes sense. I am very greatful that my band is okay. The EGD was a breeze. I didn't feel a thing and I feel great today. Feels like just enough restriction. I hope it stays that way!
