  1. I was sleeved on 1/27/2014, and I used to weigh myself every single day, from the day I got home from the hospital. At first it was nice, because I did see a difference every day, even if it was a few tenths of a pound! But then my weight started to fluctuate, and it started driving me absolutely insane to the point where I was starting to even be afraid to eat what little I could!! Finally after a session or two with my nutritionist, as well as paying even more attention to inches and shrinking clothing sizes, I then made a more strict effort to weigh myself weekly...although every once in awhile I may sneak on the scale mid-week. The one pattern I seemed to find is I always weighed the least on Mondays, and I ALWAYS seem to gain a little bit between Monday and Tuesday...not sure why!!! I hope this helps, and if anyone has any questions or anything, I am more than willing to share what knowledge and experience I have...and always looking to be friended if you like!!

    African American Sleevers

I went back to work in less than week, and I was fine with everything. I think as long as you can get along without the pain meds, you should be good. Most people I know are off the serious pains meds within the first few days. Also you're encouraged to do alot of walking once the surgery is over, so you wouldn't want to stay still for too long right after surgery anyway. I think you should be good.
  4. Honestly...I truly think I would have been history by now. I was getting worse and worse, and everything I tried was failing. Every time I went to the doctor, she found something new wrong with me, and everything was weight-related, including being pre-diabetic. Now that I have been losing, every single issue has either improved or gone away completely, so this decision I really think has not only been a life-changing one, but I life-saving one as well!!!
  5. My endocrinologist asked me to do this when I'm 6 months out, but i think this is for something other than the surgery. Although he knows about the surgery, I'm not sure if I'm in a rush to have him or anyone else poking around in there until I'm 100% comfortable that everything is fully healed and functioning fine, and I'm thinking that 6 months out may be sufficient. My surgeon only mentioned having an endoscopy done if he has reason to believe there are issues, but I guess this is something that each surgeon handles differently.

    Nasal B12

I'm currently using the Nascobal now, and my surgeon told me about this plan called ProCareRX which will ship to you a month's supply of the Nascobal, as well as a month's supply of their chewable Multivitamins, their Calcium chews, and chewable Iron pills (if needed), and with insurance coverage I only pay $25 a month. This works out great for me, since it's a one stop shop and covers everything I need post-op! I like the nasal spray, and all the chewable Vitamins actually taste pretty good!!

    Newbie here...

Welcome to the site and to the groups....there's a great deal of useful info here, as well as a great deal of friendly people!! I wish you great success!!!
  8. So sorry you had such a rough go at it at the beginning, but so glad your journey has started progressing on such a great upswing!! I truly hope all goes even better for you from here!!!
  9. One thing I thought was kinda weird was before I went shopping for some smaller outfits, one of my co-workers walked up to me and said 'You look like you have on your Dad's clothes', and then simply walked away!! I wasn't sure if should take it as a compliment, an insult, or him just making fun!!

    Fruit anyone?

I was told to stay away from dried fruits because of their condensed high sugar content. But depending on how far out you are from your surgery, you should be careful about the skin of fruits like apples, pears, etc...if you're very early out of surgery, I'm told this could get caught in the staples. Be sure to chew or blend thoroughly. If you're at least 3 to 4 months out, you should be fully healed and can have just about any fruit, but just keep track of the calories and the carbs.
  13. I was very much interested in going the path of WLS, but was a bit nervous about the 'fear of surgery' aspect of it. Once I thought more about the benefits than the fear, I started doing a great deal of research on it. I then made an appointment with my primary doctor to discuss the issue. She never suggested it to me, but when I asked about it, she was definitely on board with the idea, and helped my get the ball rolling!!! Not sure if she simply was not allowed to or what, but when I presented the idea and she was sure I was serious about it, she was extremely helpful and supportive!!! She helped me along the way, and now with all the benefits I'm seeing from it (stabilized blood pressure, lowered blood sugar, no signs of arthritis in the knees), my only regret is I wish I had done it all sooner!!!
  14. This is a very big concern of mine!! When I reach my goal, I want to stop losing...but at the same time, I don't want to regain and undo everything I've done!! I would also like to tone and regain some of the muscle that I've lost, so I'm not sure if I'm asking too much when I'm looking for this happy medium!! There's a lot of great ideas in this particular post, so thanks very much for this...very much appreciated!!

2 DAYS TO MEET WITH SURGEON

So how did things go with the surgeon?? Still going for the sleeve? I originally was going for the lap-band, but thought it was too much trouble with the back and forth fills and all...and my primary thought the bypass was too drastic, so I went with the sleeve...it's working out great for me now!! Wish you the best, tammie30...keep us posted!!

    African American Sleevers

Oh yeah...had it for awhile! Gas-X helps a great deal...I ended up buying the bigger box of it from BJ's (if you have one around you). Taking one or two pills with meals does help alot...also it does get better and much less frequent as time goes by. Also the slower you eat, the less you get the reflux.

    2 days post op.

I was sent home with a pain med prescription..I used the pain meds for 3 days, and didn't need anything after that, including any over-the-counter pain meds.

    African American Sleevers

You may want to try something like sugar-free puddings or applesauce if you need something to satisfy the sweet taste. A far as foods, you can mix a little broth with mashed potatoes...just not too much, since you want to watch the starch intake. My nutritionist had me try black beans pureed, but that was pretty nasty!!! However it did give me some ideas to try...like chicken with a little broth pureed was good. Try some of the good-for-you foods that you like, add a little liquid, chop them up and try them.

2 DAYS TO MEET WITH SURGEON

This is definitely an exciting time!! This is where they explain to you the entire process, they explain to you what options you have, and basically who will be doing what. What happens here will depend on what procedure you select. This is the best time to get all of your questions answered...what I did was I wrote down all the questions I could think of, because you'll definitely forget something and then remember it as you're heading home from your appointment. Y may want to bring something with you to take notes...if your initial appointment was anything like mine, you'll be given a whole lot of info!!

    Here we go

If your eval is anything like mine, it's nothing to worry about...they'll ask a few questions, you answer honestly, and it's done!!

    Help

Unfortunately, I agree with BeagleLover...if all parties aren't on board and comfortable, then it may not be worth the risk. Maybe at a later time you can try, perhaps?

    Any Jersey Sleevers?

I am...in Sayreville Parlin area, had my sleeve done at St. Peter's, and had Dr. Nihalani do my surgery...how about yourself?

    African American Sleevers

I asked the same question as well, since I didn't have a drain either. It's not too common, but some patients have a drain attached either during or a few days after their surgery if they have a fluid build-up at the site of the operation. Nothing complicated or anything...more of precaution than anything else.
