Hi Everyone!!! I live in Chandler and am waiting for insurance approval. I'm working with Banner Gateway in Gilbert and Dr. Podkomeni. Dr. Pod recommended bypass for me because I have acid reflux. I'm pretty sure surgery will be in April at this point as I have to do a 2 week liquid pre-op diet.
Would love to hear from others about your experience with the pre-op diet and what Vitamins you are taking.
    Good Luck to everyone!!!!!

My doctor never suggested a calorie limit either. 11g of Protein is great. I have an Excel spreadsheet that has almost 100 grocery store, frozen, and fast food items that are all high in protein (and I'm adding to it all the time). Forum rules don't allow me to post it but I'd be glad to email it to you if post your email address or PM it to me. I've sent it to dozens of folks here on the forum. One of the biggest (and best) surprises I've had following my RNY has been the number of delicious, high protein options there are out there!!

Surgery is done. I slept the whole day. Pain isn't bad at all and I've all ready done walking. Going to be here for 1 more day. All went great and lost 25 lbs pre opp.

I also had surgery on May 5th and I was discharged yesterday also. I feel the same way I'm so tired and very sore. I'm trying to stay awake so I'm able to get all my liquids it's hard.

Hi May buddies!!! We made to the other side of the losers bench. Congratulations.
My surgery was May 5 and I came home yesterday. I still have quite a bit of gas inside, but that's making it's out and I'm pretty sore where the incisions are.
My question is....is anyone exhausted? I seem to be able to stay a wake for maybe an hour and then I have to lie down. It's not giving me a whole lotta time to get all my food, Water and Vitamins in. Any suggesstions?

I am one more night away from surgery...May 5th. I am in Southern California and I have been pursuing the surgery since 2008. Can't believe I am actually a day away. My insurance and medical group required 32 weeks worth of classes and support groups. It was a 3 hour round trip at least once a week but I made it! I am having the bypass and will be kept for a minimum of 48 hours. I am so thankful for this site and to all of you who share your stories. Thanks to you all! Keep sharing and I hope we can continue to help one another through the ups and downs. God Bless You All...

Good Morning, May Groupies. My surgery is Monday morning at 7:30. I'm very excited. Getting all the last minute stuff done this weekend and 2 more days on the pre-op diet. I've lost 14 lbs so far. Weight loss has slowed these last couple of days, but I'm happy with the 14 lbs. I don't know about you, but I didn't think the pre-op diet was so bad. Mine was 2 weeks of 3-4 Protein Shakes, s/f Jello, broth, s/f popsicles. I mainly stuck with the Protein shakes and the broth. I was surprised at how good I feel with only about 500 calories a day. Only occasionally have I felt really hungry....other times it was just head hunger. I won't lie.....I did a lot of 'mental' work before I started the diet and I think that helped a lot.
I'm anxious to see you on the losers' bench. Good Luck everyone!!!

Well starting day 4 of liquid diet and I feel sooo much better, I can do this. My energy level has been really low I hope it picks up. I finish my pre op tomorrow with EKG, CXR and blood work then surgery!!! I have 3 women that I work with that had the bypass all within the last year, they all look so beautiful and healthy. I've been looking at all the youtube video transformations, gotta say I'm a little worried about the Hair loss though! Some seem to have it worse than others. Anyway, off to buy some gas ex and order my Vitamins, I'm getting the "Celebrate" vitamins. We were given a few different choices and these seemed to taste the best and have to take less of these than the others. People have made negative comments like " you have to take these vitamins every day for the rest if your life!" Like that's such a big deal...... I take blood pressure meds every single day, and wear a CPAP every single night, I'd rather give those up and take my vitamins every single day!!! Have a great day everyone!!

Hi I just found out that my surgery got approved after the insurance company originally denied it. I have been waiting a long time (or at least it seems that way) on this roller coaster. I found out today my final weigh in will be may 2nd and I will get my official surgery date then but it looks like May will be my month!

Started my liquid diet today, so far ok but I do feel a little light headed. All I did was pee today lol and I was so busy at work so it kept me occupied. I also got the chicken Soup ( chicken broth) from a Japanese restaurant, that helps since everything else is so sweet. Surgery is May 8th, I have an appt with the surgeon again tomorrow, then pre op Monday. Also heard today that my insurance accepted everything..... Getting nervous now!! I'm an RN, hopefully I'll be a good patient lol!

Pre-op started yesterday. All is good......not bad at all other than some diarrhea, but hopefully that will subside soon. I'm using Premier Protein shakes at work (3) and then I like the unjury Protein (Chocolate and vanilla are both really good) as my last shake. Filling in with lots of s/f Jello and broth. I can't really say that I've been hungry, but clearly lots of action in the tummy the last 2 days. I hope it continues to be this easy. I think one of the keys is keeping my mind busy and not having time to think about what I'm eating......I mean drinking.
Have all the early May surgeries started pre-op diets? I'm curious how it's going for everyone else.
    Have a great day!!!

My pre op diet starts on Monday, my surgery is May 12th. I am lucky for my pre op diet I get 3 Meal Replacements ( Protein bars or drinks) and one real food meal per day. I have a list of pre approved foods and amounts for my real food meal. I can snack on raw vegetables and sugar free Jello all I want. I have been trying Protein drinks for the past 3 months. I really like the Syntrax nectar and matrix drinks. I also bought some premade Isopure drinks to have if I need them. I live 2 and a half hours away from the hospital so my husband will be taking me for surgery and staying in Boston with me. My father in law and his wife are coming to stay with our kids while we are gone. Counting down the days!!!!!!!!!!

So in sticking with my plan for the last three weeks, it was Friday morning and "weigh day". I was happy to see another 3 lb. loss to make 40 in 6 weeks. Then I took my measurements as I have done on weigh day and compared them with pre op measurements. I have lost 23 inches!!!
I felt so good about me, that after hiding my body from my husband for about a year or so, I walked from the bedroom to the clothes hamper in the utility room stark naked twice!!! He just smiled and asked me if this was a parade or an invite!!! LOL

Good luck on your surgery. Although I wasn't officially diagnosed with sleep apnea and didn't have a CPAP machine, there was a good chance that I had this condition. The specialist in this field that examined me thought I had this condition. My snoring kept my wife awake every night. That went on for several years. A couple weeks after surgery that stopped. Now I sleep so quiet, my wife wakes up and thinks I am dead, because she cannot hear me breathing. I also had high blood pressure. I took myself off all high blood pressure medicine around 3 weeks after surgery because my blood pressure was getting too low. I am 11 months post-op and these conditions have been in remission over that time.
