Your Weight - A national security secret ?
SoCalMomOfFour replied to BookWorm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh yes, I haven't told a soul, not my husband, not my BFF, NOBODY! I am even hesitant to tell people how much I want to lose because I'm afraid they are going to do the math! I started an instagram account @runningmcfatty and thought I was flying under the radar, but then my real life friends started following me and I totally freaked out! My surgery is 4/11, so far I've lost 15lbs pre-op... but yeah, totally embarrassed about it all. -
What surgeon are you using?
-
Dr Ortiz at OCC. I will be at the hotel on the 10th and stay the night before surgery and then be back the 12th, 13th, and leave the 14th.
-
Will you be staying at the Mariott? I'll be there!

I'm having surgery the 11th! Who is your surgeon?

So THAT'S why they cut the pizza in squares at the Chicago-style pizza place here in SoCal! And, yes, I had a 15lb-two week celebration. Surgery 4/11. My doc said I had to lose 15, now I have to lose 30... whoops. -
Flying questions
SoCalMomOfFour replied to BrandNewBrandy's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I flew southwest last fall and I'm 5'5" and just over 300. I'm a pear shape size 24/26. I did not need an extender but I had to squeeze the life out of that belt. I had my mom and daughter with me, so I was able to ooze into some of their space. -

Dr. Ariel Ortiz at the OCC
SoCalMomOfFour replied to Kindle's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I made the decision to have VSG with OCC back in October. I have spent an insane amount of time researching Dr Ortiz. With the exception of a guy who had lap band years ago (and he didn't have anything specific to say, just attacked Dr O for seemingly no reason) , I couldn't find a single person who hasn't been totally thrilled with their experience. There have been a few times I laughed out loud realizing that on April 11th I will eventually meet a surgeon I've researched more than anyone/anything else ever- I feel like a stalker, but this is an important decision, I don't take lightly! I think you will be in good hands! -
I was hoping I could just pick something up at Wal-Mart instead of the expensive bariatric vitamins. Thoughts?

I don't think I'm going to buy the enspira. I read somewhere that someone bought Enspira and it was already out of date! No thanks. -
I'm 3 months from having surgery, so I'm spending my spare time reading everything I can possibly find about VSG. Lately I've seen a lot of people struggling with awful nausea. Is this normal? How long does it last? Thanks!

Tentatively planning for April 11!
SoCalMomOfFour replied to SoCalMomOfFour's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm going to Dr Ortiz at OCC. Fortunately I live just a short drive over the border so it's not a big deal traveling there. -
I'm self pay (booo on my insurance) and will be putting my deposit down in a few weeks! Can't wait!
-
I just schedule my surgery with OCC for April 11! Can't wait to hear how it goes for you!

How did you approach your PCP about WLS in Mexico?
SoCalMomOfFour replied to Butterflyhigh's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I have yet to have my surgery! I'm tentatively planning for April 11th at OCC. Recently I couldn't stop gaining weight, like a crossed some imaginary line of no return! I think vsg is my Hail Mary play. I'm 37yrs and my BMI is in the high 40s. Sigh. -
How did you approach your PCP about WLS in Mexico?
SoCalMomOfFour replied to Butterflyhigh's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I sort of eased my PCP into the idea. She was totally down with wls, so then I presented her my options: two US surgeons and one MX surgeon. She said, "all things the same, go to Mexico!" She said that she personally knows of multiple surgeons moving to Mexico to practice because of all the new Obamacare regulations." Additionally she said she'd follow my care post surgery. It was such a relief!
