  1. I am having surgery on May 6 and am feeling the same as you. I am going over in my mind what I will do to deal with the discomfort ,not being able to "pig out", etc. I am thinking about looking at dresses on the line so I can pick one to wear to my nephew's wedding in September. It will be nice to not have to get a plus size. Also, we are going away next February break to the Bahamas. I think I will "window shop" on my computer for a couple of nice bathing suits and summer clothes. I am scared too. We should try to do things that don't make us think so much about the difficult part of the surgery and focus on the benefits as we get thinner. We can do this! There are a lot of people here if you need some help. Best of luck tomorrow!!

    Updates with pictures

You look awesome! Thanks for inspiring me!
  3. I just found out today that my insurance company has approved my VSG! My date of surgery will be May 6th. I can't believe it - it is very real now. No "if's" but now it is a reality!!! Can't wait to be on the loser's bench. I'm so excited!! It was definitely a good thing that I had to go through the six month weigh-in period. I finally feel that I am really ready to give this my all now!

    Now what?

I have Oxford/United Healthcare insurance. I just finished my six months of requirements to qualify for surgery. I went through all of the consultations with Cardiologist, Nutritionist, Psychologist, Pulmonologist, sleep Specialist, etc. I attended two WLS support group meetings (which I found very helpful and positive), and I had my last weigh-in with my PCP today. I put in a call to my surgeon's coordinator and am waiting to hear back from her. I am assuming that the next step is for her to submit my paperwork to the insurance company for approval. Does anyone know approximately how long that process takes? TIA

    Coffee

Thanks for asking. I was wondering the same thing. Also, what is the best way to wean yourself off of coffee pre-surgery?
  13. Good for both of you!! You both look wonderful and I'm sure you feel just as great! I hope I can be as successful. You are both an inspiration!

    Oil Pulling

I just heard of this for the first time this week. I know a few people doing it and recommend it. I'm considering trying it myself.

    5mths 100lbs gone!

    Awesome!! Congratulations!
  16. I had to change the starting weight on my profile page because I have gone up quite a bit during my six month pre-op phase. I have six months of weigh-ins with my PCP in order to qualify for my surgery. Each month I have gone up because I just keep having food funerals. Thank goodness I only have one more month of weigh-ins. I don't know how much more I can afford to gain.

    Tomorrow is the day!

Glad it went well. Feel better and keep us posted!
  19. I had my psych evaluation last week with my nutrition evaluation at the surgeon's office. They both went very well. The psych part was basically a meeting with the psychologist where we just talked for about 30 mins. She asked me a few questions, but mostly listened to me babble on about my family, my life and how she thinks I will do with the surgery. She was very nice and I had a really good feeling about it after I left, especially because she told me she thinks I am really ready for this. Good luck! You'll be fine!

    Day of Surgery!

    Good luck! Keep us posted.
  21. This is a topic I am struggling with myself. I haven't had the surgery yet, but each day I change my mind about telling people or not (really just my mom and sister). Obviously, my husband knows because - well, he is my husband (lol). He is very supportive of whatever I decide. I, too, am afraid of people judging me. Some things are just very personal. I think we feel guilty about not being totally honest about it because that is the way we were brought up. We think of it as "lying" and so we feel guilty because we are "good girls". I won't be having surgery for a couple of months yet, so I have really been checking out the forums to hear what other people's views are. I think if I came across someone who struggles with their weight as I do, I would feel that maybe I can help them by telling them. I really don't want to mislead anyone, but it really is a private and personal thing. Let us know how you do with this. I really look to all of you for support, especially on this issue. Good luck!!

    The big day

    Good luck!! Keep us posted.
  23. This is a decision I am struggling with also. To tell or not to tell. So far it is just between my husband and I. I am leaning toward not telling anyone because my family (in-laws) are very judgemental. My mother-in-law likes to spread the news around even if I told her I would rather she not. I am struggling with telling my mom and my sister. I think my mom will not approve because she is not open minded and would worry. I was thinking of telling people that I had hernia surgery also, although I feel guilty about flat out lying. I just worry about the first month when I am not feeling well. I know I will have to have some story. It is amazing how many of us are struggling with the same thing. I, too, like reading the topics (especially this one) because I like to know what others have done. It is helpful. Good luck with your decision and keep me posted.

    I'm going for it!

The only person that I have discussed this with is my husband, too. I haven't even told my mom or my sister (yet). I definitely am not saying anything to my in-laws either. I don't want to have to explain my decision and the reasons for it to anyone. I will eventually tell my mom and sister, but I'm not sure when that will be. That is why I love this site so much. There are so many other people in our positions and it is great to support each other. This is such a great source of info too. Best of luck to us!
