Hello everyone. I had my VSG on 10/24/13, which makes me a little over three weeks post. My problem is whenever I try to eat or drink, I can have really bad gas pains on my left side. It gets so severe that I can't breathe and sometimes I cry because of it. Anyone has suggestions on what to do to help?

Pure Protein bars are pretty good from what I've heard. I eat the chocolate deluxe and its wonderful. Try that one. It's found at Walmart.

Sleeping On Your Side Again?!
ekmw replied to a_gray_'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a little over three weeks post and I'm now able to sleep on either side. However, I've noticed that my hips hurt after sleeping or lying on a side for too long, so I still lie on my back as well. I think I was able to lie on my sides for short periods of time about two weeks post. -
How Much Exercise Is Everyone Doing?
ekmw replied to IndieAllie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm a little over three weeks, and my recovery has been a little slow. Last week, a dog jumped on me, and hit me near my main incision, so that took a few days to recover from. Currently, I'm just doing the basic walking that comes with everyday life. I've been meaning to walk on my treadmill, but by the end of the day, I'm worn out and hurting. Lately, I've also been having problems with energy levels and not been feeling too well. At my two week check up, my surgeon said not to worry about exercising, but instead focus on getting in my Water and Protein. He said I needed to heal first, before doing anything other than walking. -
It made me feel better that one of the nurses in the hospital that took care of me, had the VSG WLS. She was around my stats, too. It made me feel good that she knew what I was feeling. I wasn't alone, when my family wasn't able to be with me.

How Long Did You Think About It Before You Decided?
ekmw replied to mimiski's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A month before my 18th birthday, my MD asked if I had ever thought about having a surgery, to help me lose weight. I said I had thought about it, but only for a moment. I went home, and done a ton of research. I began my process starting my 18th birthday. This year, I turned 20. I had my VSG on 10/24/13 and so far, it's been one of the best choices for my health. -
Hiw Much Weight Did U Lose...
ekmw replied to juliansmommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If a doctor doesn't say that you need to lose a certain amount before hand, it could be because you're at a good weight to perform the surgery without having risks. My pre-op diet including no sugar, low/no calories. I could only drink. No food. Not even Soups. Each doctor will be different, due to how long they've done it and your own genetics. A full assessment is required. -
I was allowed to shower the day after my surgery. I'm unsure on how you'll be after surgery, but I didn't want to do anything after, not even "eat".

Hiw Much Weight Did U Lose...

I lost about 13 lbs before my VSG. I lost it in eight days. If I had to lose weight before it, my surgeon never said anything. -
Hey guys. I'm needing to find a Protein powder, but not the flavored kind. I'm trying to find the kind that mixes like benefiber. Mixes, but tasteless. Suggestions? Stores? Also, I'm needing atleast 45 grams a day.

Banded 11/4- Major Complications :(

Woah! What an ordeal you had to go through. I'm terribly sorry, and I hope you're feeling better! -
Can't have apple juice. It causes kidney stones and I can be very prone to them. Thank you for the suggestion. I appreciate it. ^^

Pre op liquid diet
ekmw replied to Amanda Nicole Hosaflook's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you went or are going through shock, it'd be wise to ask your doctor about this. That can be extremely dangerous, and hurt you. Hope all is well. -
Less sugars makes the liver shrink, which makes surgery easier. He's most likely doing this for safety reasons. I know it's hard, but it'll all be worth it, when you start losing the pounds and feel better and healthier. Hang in there!!

1. To become healthy, to decline my health problems that I currently have. 2. To finally be comfortable with myself and appearace. 3. To have a better life. 4. Wear "normal" sized clothing again. 5. To be happy.

I've been forcing myself to drink fluids, usually getting around 40 oz a day. I just would like to get the recommended 64 oz. Congrats on getting sugery. Hopefully it'll benefit you in the long run, and you'll be happier and healthier as a result.

Thing is, water is making me sick. Both in taste and in my stomach.

Thanks for input. I'll try it out. I do like Sobe. ^^

Weight gain 3 weeks post op
ekmw replied to symoned29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's not good to weigh everyday. It's best to weigh once a week/two weeks. Body weight fluncuates, and even more so when you start introducing more foods. -
1. sleeping on your couch might be easier than sleeping in your bed. Since I came home, I've been on the couch, sleeping on my back. Eventually, you'll be able to sleep on side, but for me, it's been easiest while still on the couch. 2. My tastes changed on the Protein drinks for post-op. You might have to change what you get, so go sparingly on this. 3. You'll probably need something to help you easily use the bathroom. Maybe invest in gel stool softeners. If you don't use the restroom atleast once during the week, speak with your doctor/surgeon. Not using the bathroom for two weeks is BAD!

I'm new, recently sleeved. I'm trying to find something that mixes, but it doesn't make a drink. Like the benefiber stuff. It mixes, but doesn't make a drink.

Congrats on your big day. You might prefer sleeping on a couch, on your back, for the first few days/weeks. After I was sleeved (10/24) I had to sleep on the cough, on my back. I hate sleeping on my back, though. Now, on the cough, I can sleep on my side, but ONLY on the cough, not on the bed. Good luck!

I've done hot chocolate once or twice, but I'm looking for cooler beverages. Thank you for input, though. C:
