How Much Help Did You Need?
ekmw replied to GotItDoneInHarlem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, I needed the extra help. I had my sleeve surgery on 10/24. I stayed in the hospital that night and on the 25th, I was released about 9 - 9:30 PM I wasn't able to bend down to pick up anything off the floor, no heavy lifting, and I was on my pain meds for about a week or two. I couldn't sleep and I had to sleep on the couch to sleep on my back. I'm now a month and two days post op, able to lift (milk jug weight or less), able to pick things off the floor, I can sleep in bed on my sides. I'm able to do things on my own again. -
What's Your Food Philosophy: Abstain Forever Or Eat In Moderation?
ekmw replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just checking in! Pre-Op Diet: 13.2 lbs (October 16, 2013 - Oct. 24, 2013). Month One: 16 lbs (October 24, 2013 - November 24, 2013). Month Two: 2 lbs (November 24, 2013 - today). So far, I've lost a total of 31.2 lbs from Pre-Op to today. I'm hoping to lose 6+ lbs by Dec. 24th. -
How soon after surgery did you resume taking vitamins?
ekmw replied to Italiancurves's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I don't have to use chewables. I double-checked with my surgeon and everything. He asked a lot questions concerning about it, and I guess my answers were sufficient. Besides, in my town, finding adult vitamins with the requirements is hard enough. Lets not make it impossible, and make it chewable. -
I had a "goodbye to overeating" dinner with my mum, sister, and boyfriend. We all went out to Cheddar's. I also wanted to have spinach dip one last time, for a long while. xD

Are You Having Someone Stay With You In The Hospital?
ekmw replied to Mel1071's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My boyfriend and mum was waiting while I had my surgery. My mum stayed with me for awhile, to make sure I was stable, see how I was, and to get me talking a little. My boyfriend stayed the night with me, because I have panic and anxiety about staying in unfamiliar places. He stayed because he wanted to make sure I wouldn't be alone and scared. -
I had my VSG Oct. 24th, 2013. I'm a few days past three week mark. I'm struggling to get my Water ounces (64). I accidentally drink too fast, as well, and I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem? My questions are: 1. What can I do to slow down on drinking? 2. What can I do to get my ounces in? 3. Is it normal to not get them everyday?

4 Things I Wish I Would've Known Pre Op
ekmw replied to Tink22-sleeve's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a month and day post-op. This is my list: I didn't know how painful the first week would be, with a sore stomach, little food, and the machine gas getting out. The food gas pains are also pretty rough. If your stomach really doesn't like a new food being introduced, you get sick. And it can be painful after. Getting the required water in, especially when water tastes bad after drinking so much of it. There's a few complaints xD -
I was in the hospital the day of surgery, and I was in gown. I spent that night and most of the next day at the hospital, being released around 10PM. I didn't wear a bra at all during that time, because I wasn't allowed. Once coming home, I literally didn't wear one for about two weeks. I was able to take off from school, so I could just lounge all the time at home. One time I tried wearing one, and the incision where the breasts meet, kinda hurt. My sides where the band was at hurt as well, especially due to the machine / food gas pains.

Since I'm making better eating choices, I just feel overall better. I'm not eating junk foods. Yesterday, I had a mini cupcake, and I didn't want more than just one. Today, I'm celebrating my boyfriend's birthday, and I'm looking forward to having the smallest piece of cake there. xD I know that when I'm allowed to exercise, I'll feel even better than now.

I'm two days from a month post-op. I followed what my surgeon said, and I've done great. Currently, I can eat whatever I want. My NUT is upset that I listened to my doctor over her, though. But to tell you the truth, I'm feeling better now than what I was, when I was listening to her...

Bloating And Gas Pains?!?!
ekmw replied to adamfishaa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you're meaning the gas from surgery, it can take up to like two weeks. BUT! then you could also have gas pains from food. I'm almost a month post-op and I still have gas pains from food. One of the nurses from my surgeon's office had the bypass and she's four months out, still experiencing gas pains from food. -
I Dont Think My Nut Believes In Me
ekmw replied to Amanda Nicole Hosaflook's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Make sure you don't use a lot of salad dressing! From the people who I've interacted with that are vegan or vegetarian, most seem to feel they're better than those who eat meats. Kinda funny to me, since I myself, before my VSG (10/24) was a vegetarian for almost 3 and half years... -
Wonderful progress!!

I had the vertical gastric sleeve on Oct. 24, 2013. I'm a few days from being a month post op. I've ate better now, than what I ever have before.

My mum's best friend, happens to be a man, decided that he should tell me that I should try losing weight on my own. Thing is, I have previously done medically supervised weight loss, medically given weight loss pills, even went to Nashville's fat clinic at the age of 12, trying to lose my weight and get into the health range. None of it actually worked. With this surgery, I now have a whole team to help me. I have a tool to help me reach health range. Yes, I have a bunch of rules to follow for the rest of my life, but... I'll actually be LIVING my life. I completely agree with you, on how rude and hurtful it is for someone to say it's an easy way out and to do it by yourself.

I Dont Think My Nut Believes In Me
ekmw replied to Amanda Nicole Hosaflook's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Currently, mine is pissed at me for listening to my surgeon MD, rather than her. She seems to just want to be "right" all the time. I'm considering changing my NUT or just not having one. -

Anyone regret WLS and why?
ekmw replied to Scorpion11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes, I regret this surgery because it means I can't go back, that I'm "stuck" with this belly. I sorta regret not being able to binge and be able to eat like I used to. I'm almost a month out, and I know this is all just fear. Fear that I won't lose the weight. Fear that I won't be happy with my choice in later years. Despite my regret feelings, I know it'll pass once I start losing the weight and feeling better. -
Looking For Some Insight
ekmw replied to Brighteyes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since you're three weeks out, it could still be the gas from the operation, depending exactly where in the chest you felt it. I know that when I got gas machine pains (plus gas pains now) I can get short of breath, unable to breath, unable to talk, unable to walk. My anxiety and panic hasn't changed after surgery, though. Atleast, not yet, if it does change. If I were you, I'd call about it. -
Just For Fun - Name Your Fat Brain And/or Sleeve
ekmw replied to Fluffnomore's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My sleeve is named Clementine. I don't have a "fat brain" name. My boyfriend calls my stomach "Banana Belly". -
What's Your Food Philosophy: Abstain Forever Or Eat In Moderation?
ekmw replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I believe in moderation for everything in life. However, I do hope that I lose interest in certain foods, just because of how unhealthy / damaging it could be. -
I Lived Through This Surgery, My Sister Didn't.
ekmw replied to LyndseyD's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm so sorry for your loss. Your sister sounds like she was an amazing woman, and I believe she deserved better from the hospital staffs she encountered. My thoughts are with you and your family. -
