    honest desires....

My reasons for the VSG: I was on the upper, warning side of becoming diabetic. Last time I had my levels checked, I'm on the lower end of being SAFE! I'm no longer in the warning zone. Knee and back pain has been very constant. Having to keep buying larger and larger clothing. It get so expensive. I just couldn't afford that, anymore. Not liking how I looked at all. I gained enough weight that I developed a double chin. I would cry while looking at the mirror. I've now lost pretty much ALL of my double chin. My HANDS even gained weight. Now, my hands feel thinner than what they used to. Of course, my physical health was important to me. But, thing is, physical isn't the ONLY type of health we have. We also have mental and emotional. I wanted all three to improve, and I firmly believed having the surgery would help all three. && So far, it has helped.I'm more: Happy. Healthy. Active. I feel like I'm "blossoming" because I'm now wearing pretty, feminine clothing. Before, I'd pretty much only wear men clothing, because women clothing looked wrong / couldn't fit. I'm now trying to shop at nice clothing stores, and I feel confident about it.

    VSG: Expectations vs Reality

I wasn't expecting the gas pains, the week after surgery, to be so awful. Even when I walked a ton, it still hurt so much. :C Thankfully, that's forever in the past now. I also kinda expected the weight to come off a little quicker. I'm 20, getting more and more active, doing my best to get in my Protein, and I've only lost 54 lbs so far. my VSG was Oct. 24, 2013. I kinda expected to see a big difference, but... I don't notice much. Everyone else raves about how I look different, but.. I don't see it. Maybe I'll see it when I get to the weight I was when I first started to super gain weight, back in 2010.

Not sure which BC to use after surgery?

I've used the Depo shot for over two years now. I don't want children at all. I also don't like having to have a period, and the Depo thins the uterus lining, so I don't have to have a period. The only real drawback, is that it messes with bone density. However, when you come off it, bone density returns to normal.
  8. I wanted to write a review about my hospital experience. I had my surgery October 24, 2013 by Dr. Charles Huddleston. Every appointment I had with him, before surgery, was informative, helpful, and considerate. He was extremely willing to talk about the different surgical procedures with both my mum and I. He was never rude and he never belittled my weight problems. On the day of surgery, I got to see him an some of the team. I was able to voice all my surgery concerns with the team, and had reassurance. After surgery, I was told he did visit me after I got settled in my room. (( I don't remember him visiting, due to the surgery meds. )) Later that day, he visited me again, when I was more awake. Again, he told me follow up care, he told me how surgery went, etc. He then told me he would see me tomorrow morning. Sure enough, the next day I got to see him. Later on the second day, I got to see him again I saw my Dr. Huddleston a total of four times, in two days. He's very concerned for making sure his patients feel safe and secure. He doesn't want you to feel out of the loop. In all honesty, I rate my entire experience with him as a whole 10/10. If you're wanting a bariatric surgery, I urge you to make a consultation appointment with him!!
  9. Since I've reached my first goal weight, which was a little bit ago, last night I rewarded myself. I re-pierced my ears at 8 gauge!! :DD

      I'm 40. You need to explain 8 guage. ;)

It's a piercing size. It's also the same in medical terminology, when discussing needles sizes.

Basically, a normal piercing will be a 20 or 18 gauge. Mine was an 8, so the piercing hole is a lot bigger. Did I explain it well enough? It can kinda be confusing.

      Here's a needle comparison chart: http://www.google.com/imgres?safe=off&biw=1366&bih=662&tbm=isch&tbnid=spk9o_37rKvfaM:&imgrefurl=http://unimaxsupply.com/prc/pneedles/1pneedls.htm&doci...

    How often do you weigh?

At first, every day / every other day. My surgeon said I should weigh once every two weeks because it's NOT about immediate / short term weight loss, it's about LONG term weight loss. A lot of people get overly upset if they gain one or two pounds, but they don't seem to understand that a lot of things can make you "gain" weight. Examples would be if you have a full bladder, if you've not recently had a bowel movement, Water weight, hormones, having your menstrual cycle. In conclusion, I don't really think it's beneficial to weigh too often.
  13. Checking in: 45.6 lbs gone! I'm 2.2 lbs from my first weight goal!

    Workouts

Not gonna lie: I was a major potato before my Sleeve. Now, I can walk around 9+ miles a day -- just in workout. I'm almost two months out, too. Currently, I can't afford a gym membership, so all my exercise is walking right now.
  15. I had my VSG 10/24/13 and I have no cravings for sugar, carbs, or anything. It could happen to you as well. Why eat something when you literally do not crave it at all?

    Gulping Liquids

They don't want gulping because it can trap air in the stomach when you swallow. Trapped air can cause gas pain.
  19. I'll share my experience, maybe it'll help you. I'm twenty years old, and I've been working to get my VSG about a month before my 18th birthday. (My MD suggested surgery.) During that time, I tried many different things to try and lose weight traditionally. I also did many tests and blood work to make sure my body was healthy. This year, I got my surgery and honestly... I don't regret it. I'm glad I got it done, because now I have a whole team to help me in my journey. I have a nutritionist who tries to come up with food ideas / suggestions. My surgeon is so wonderful and helpful. I rate him a full 10/10. Now, I watch what I eat because I don't want to take in junk. In fact, most of my food cravings have completely disappeared. My eating has been for the better. Everyone in my house has been sick, and I've barely been sick due to my better eating and getting in my Vitamins. If you're having doubts, maybe talk to a counselor about your feelings.
  20. A suggestion would be a USB drive, which can have ALL your information, including pictures. I know there are USB with the medical alert icons, and you can make it into a bracelet or necklace.
  21. I was allowed to brush my teeth. In fact, in my pre-surgery paperwork, it was listed to thoroughly brush teeth and tongue. Before surgery, it's required no food/drink. Basically, before surgery, they don't want any food or liquids in your stomach, which can cause you to vomit during surgery, due to the anesthesia upsetting the stomach.
  22. I'm officially two weeks post-op as of 11/7/13. I'm struggling with finding things that are low calorie/low sugar to drink. I understand Water with crystal light, but I've gotten sick of the taste. I've also drank my share of zero calorie/sugar sports drinks. Any suggestions?
  23. I had five. Four on my stomach, the main was not at/in my belly button, though. One at where my bra sits, so sometimes it gets really irritated. I didn't have a drain tube.
  24. Just checking in! Pre-Op Diet: 13.2 lbs (October 16, 2013 - Oct. 24, 2013). Month One: 16 lbs (October 24, 2013 - November 24, 2013). Month Two: 2 lbs (November 24, 2013 - today). So far, I've lost a total of 31.2 lbs from Pre-Op to today. I'm hoping to lose 6+ lbs by Dec. 24th.
  25. For some reason, this post went to the wrong forum. Sorry guys!
