For the past 6 weeks I have been very ill with the flu, sinus infection, Upper RI, etc My doctor put me on Penisone and I have gained 7 lbs in 10 days. My 5th of 6 NUT visit is tomorrow. What happens if I gain weight?
-
I am 27 years old 6 foot and 400lbs. My surgery is coming up in a couple months since I have 6 months of NUT. This will be my first surgery so I am not sure what to expect. Any insight and experience will be helpful.
-
Thanks everyone. This is helpful and reassuring. I still have a couple months left of NUT, but getting very excited about the changes.
-
Fantastic! I am sensitive to pain meds. What kind did they give you?
-
I was looking at Griffin, but I really liked the Doctor at Yale. They have years of experience performing these surgeries and often travel around the country to train other doctors to perform these types of surgeries.

Personally I chose the sleeve due to the risks and malnutrition that is common with bypass. The sleeve only affects the stomach instead of the bypass which affects the small intense. I did not want band due to having for a foreign object in my body. I figured I can have a similar loss with sleeve as I would with bypass. I know I will need to "work" harder with the sleeve and I am okay with that.

Hi Kate, How are you doing with pain?
-
Great! That was the other Doc I was looking at too! How long were you in hospital? Complications? How was the pain?
-
I continue to remind myself that i will be in the hospital and know they will give me as much pain meds as I need. I recently went to the ER due to a severe stomach bug and they gave me 4 weeks of pain meds. LOL....I will need to remind myself of this.

I am new here. Located in Naugatuck, CT. I will be having surgery with Dr. Druffy at Yale. Anyone use him?
-
That is good to hear. I have to admit, I am a total whimp when it comes to pain.
-
Thanks JD. How was the pain for the 1st week? I know this can vary person to person, but wondering what I should expect. I am very excited about the life changing change.

Typically, if it's not a covered benefit they will not cover it at all. If it is a benefit, you will need to get a series of things done. I would look into switching insurances that covers the surgery.
-
Good point. You should be able to call and see if they cover WLS
-
It all depends on your plan benefits. Each is different as there are thousands of plans out there under each insurance name. I would recommend changing insurances if you have the option to one that covers it
-
Going through process now through Yale! Where are you?
-
So sorry to hear this! Where did you have your surgery?
-
Hey, Looking for others in or around CT for support. I am in the early stages. My first appointment with NUT was last month. I have my second of six next week. Mike

Great!!!! I'm such a baby when I think of having the surgery. That scares me the most. This will be my first surgery. Let's just say I won't get a tattoo bc I'm afraid of the pain....

This will be my first surgery EVER. I am hoping that I have my health in my favor as I am a "healthy" person minus my weight. Doctor took a ton of labs a couple months ago and said that if he did not see my in his office, we would think I would be of healthy weight since everything checks out. That being said, I know that if I continue down this road, it will lead to some serious complications and health issues so I am trying to be as proactive as I can. -
That is great. My insurance requires six months as well so I am looking at March for the approval and around April for the date for the surgery. I am hoping everything goes well the next few months. I am trying to do things in steps without overwhelming myself. I am calling a therapist tomorrow to schedule. I am likely to want the added support so I am going to continue throughout this process. Good Luck with the process as well!
