    Filtered milk

Yesterday at the store I noticed something I had not seen. A dairy product called filtered milk. The label says 50% more Protein and 30% more Calcium and 50% less sugar. An 8 oz serving has 13 g protein. The brand is fairlife. What do y'all know about filtered milk? Does anyone know how it's made? Does anyone use this kind of milk? Does it taste like regular milk? As a general rule the more processed a food is the less healthy it is, but the idea of milk with extra protein is appealing. I was just curious if anyone knows anything about this new product. I am going to ask around, do a little research and if I see it in the store next week I might buy some.

    Plain yogurt = *gag*... Help!

I buy a tub of Greek yogurt thats about 2 cups and add one packet of crystal lite for the individual Water bottles and 2 packets of splenda. Then I eat small servings for a snack. One tub usually lasts me a week. It is less calories and carbs if you make it this way than buying flavored yogurts, and its easier to dish up a small serving that it was eating half a regular container. I try to eat some yogurt every day. I think it helps keep me regular. My go to flavor is the raspberry ice.
  3. I can recommend Dr Borland in New Iberia. He does self pay patients. He only accepts low risk patients and does the surgery as out patient.

How Often Do You Weigh Yourself?

I weigh myself every day or every other day so I see how I'm doing. I lose very slowly and stall for long periods and I record my weight only when I get to a new low.
  5. I dont know how common it is but I was also given a script for adipex. I did take it a few days but the more I read the more nervous I became that I was setting myself up for a regain. I felt the same as you. I took the wls route because I didnt want to go the pill route. By the way my stall is over and I am losing again. I upped the intensity of my exercise. Nothing changed weight wise for a few more weeks but now its moving along nicely without pills.
  6. Congratulations Kelsey! Keep up the good work! You are doing great!

Hair still falling out at 7 months

My hair loss started about 3 months out and seemed to slow about 10 months out. Now its growing back in and getting thicker all the time. And yes I took the Biotin and daily met my Protein goals but it still fell out. I was a slow loser too. So hang in there you're almost to the end of the hair loss period. Wishing you all the best!

How do you feed your soul?

So many things feed my soul; listening to a first grader read, being with my loved ones, singing at the top of my lungs in the car where only I can hear, prayer, meditation, yoga especially the hot sweaty kind, reading, many moments of quiet gratitude, trying something new, taking a moment to acknowledge that in spite of my many imperfections and failings I am doing it! I am living a healthier fuller life than I have in years!!! Namaste my friends!

    A light bulb went off

Hang in there! I promise it gets better! Keep doing the best you can and in a few more weeks you will start feeling much more normal.
  10. There are lots of great suggestions here. One thing I wanted to mention is to try varying the temperature of your liquids. In my earlier days I did much better with warm or hot liquids. So I drank lots of teas and occasionally a cup of broth as a change from all the artificially sweetened drinks. I see others who find icey cold works for them. Even popsicles count toward your liquid total. Keep trying different things till you find what works for you and then be prepared to change again. This summer I am back to drinking more Water and I still like it better with no ice. I also add generic benefiber to my morning Protein shake.
  11. I haven't been one to post much about stalls. I knew it would be a common part of my progress. I have been a slow loser all along. It took me about 3 months to lose my first 20 lbs post op and my average when I was losing was about a 5 lbs loss a month. But here I am over a year out, 80 lbs down, (including some loss pre op) but I have been stalled since May. I had a check up with my surgeon yesterday. He put me on Adipex for a short time to get my weight moving down again. Has anyone taken Adipex post op? I would love to hear about your experiences. I have really increased my exercise this summer and I did relate that the more I exercise the hungrier I feel. I have never taken diet pills of any kind. I feel frustrated because I never wanted to take pills and I felt the sleeve was a healthier option for me, but here I am getting ready to take them anyway. I will share how it goes for me. I know we all fear weight regain and not reaching our goal weight. I wonder if anybody else has had their doctor bring up diet pills after surgery? I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences.

    Stall and Adipex

I decided this drug is not for me. I dont want to just set myself up for regaining the weight which is what I fear would happen even if it did help me lose weight initially. Thanks for the input guys!

    Stall and Adipex

Morning I have a Protein shake with benefiber and coffee lunch Usually half a hamburger patty or half chicken breast or salmon leftovers from the night before snack sugar free Jello with 2 Tbs plain greek yogurt or string cheese or strawberries or for a treat a graham cracker with pnut butter dinner 2- 3 oz meat 1/4 cup veggies of some sort occasionally stir fry over dreamfields Pasta occasionally eat out with friends snack cheese or sugar free popsicle My typical calorie count on myfittnesspal is between 900-1100 cal The first 2 weeks of july I drank shakes and no food lost nothing. Second 2 weeks went lo carb and kept carbs under 30 a day. I lost one stinking lb. I'm just frustrated and it did feel good not to be hungry today. It felt like it did last summer when my sleeve was new. In terms of exercise I am switching from 5 days a week 1hr workouts to 5 days 1 1/2 hr workouts and upping the intensity.

    Stall and Adipex

Thanks for the replies. I did take a half dose this morning. I have not felt jittery or nervous at all. I have not felt hungry at all. I think I will take a half dose for a week. See what happens. Not take it a week and see what happens. This is supposed to be a short term solution to see if we can get the scale moving again. But I'm not interested in setting myself up for regain and as I do more reading it seems less appealing all the time.

    Memory loss?

Yes! I kept reading about people feeling better and feeling more energy, but I was walking around in a fog! I think this got better for me around month 6. I had been very faithful taking my Vitamins, but my Dr insisted I have a b12 shot and thats when things turned around for me. I'm not sure how far out you are. You will get through it.
  17. Well I had my children long before my sleeve days, but I was a La Leche member. What I remember was that once your milk supply is well established fluids are more important than calories in maintaining milk supply. Your body is fine mobilizing your fat stores to make milk. In females that is actually why we store fat so readily. Eating high quality foods rich in nutrients will improve the quality of your milk, but you don't need to be consuming lots extra calories unless you are underweight. Congrats on the birth of your baby and kudos for your decision to breastfeed your baby. Research has shown formula in infancy increases the risk of obesity later in life. Enjoy your baby!

    Being alone post-op

I'm not sure. When I asked I was told you just had surgery. No driving for one week.

    Being alone post-op

I think you'll be fine alone. You'll rest better in your own home. The only issue I see is not driving for a week. If you have a volunteer to drive you around occasionally you'll do great!

    Coffee and Yoga

I added coffee back when I got to full liquids. I have one cup every morning. I add a vanilla Protein shake with 2 tbs of generic benefiber and it makes a great latte for Breakfast. I also resumed yoga at day 8. I was told go slow listen to your body, and if it hurts dont do it. I had an active yoga practice so i was resuming my practice not beginning one. Look for classes that are gentle, save ashtanga or vinyasa flow classes till about 6 weeks out.
  21. I made a pot of red Beans. Bean broth with a TBS of beans mashed in was delicious. I ended up freezing most of the beans. Food in the blender grosses me out. I choose foods that were naturally soft and easy to mash with a fork like scrambled egg. I also kept eating my full liquid foods.

    Smelly Protein Shakes

I dont know why either, but you are right. One trick I use when the smell is bothering me (esp during those first couple of months when my nose was super sensitive) is put the shake in a coffee cup that has a no spill lid. Smell issue gone. Good luck!

    New Coping Skill

Ideally going for a walk or doing something physically exerting is probably healthiest, but finding the motivation when my spirits are low is tough. I have 2 things I do to lift my spirits or distract from head hunger. First a long hot bubble bath or second I paint my nails. LOL the second one is also good because you cant eat with wet nails. By the time my nails are dry either the craving is gone or it is actually time to eat. Wishing you the best as you figure out what works for you.
