Are You Sure Most Of Your Stomach Is Gone?
reading mom replied to Sleevie J's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You didn't feel restriction because rice and Cookies are slider foods. A slider is a food that you can eat and it slides on through the sleeve and you don't get that full feeling that dense Protein gives you. Many simple carbs are slider foods and that's partly why we need to avoid them. Unfortunately for most of us slider foods do go down easy. Next time get just the fish and then have one piece of sushi. Yes, we have to be diligent. Chalk this up as a learning experience. -
Also I recommend you check out the forum section on converting from band to sleeve. Lots of stories there!

I understand the appeal of the band. Originally it seemed less drastic to me. But as I researched further and became more aware of the serious complications that some have with the band the sleeve began to appeal to me more. I also saw many doctors no longer perform or recommend the band surgery. Also at some point the band has to come out. Then what? I don't know about your dieting history, but I could get it all together and lose weight for a while, but I could never get all the way to goal and then I could never keep the weight off. I had a problem that needed a PERMANENT solution. With the sleeve you are "one and done," but the band is a life time commitment to adjustments, fills and eventually replacement. Wishing you all the best as you continue your research and decide what is best for you. Good for you for making steps to lose weight and get healthier whichever you decide!

How Does Your New Stomach Handle Hot Sauce?
reading mom replied to Bob624's topic in Food and Nutrition
Hi, I do fine with spicy foods. I live in Cajun country and I'm so glad. I use Cajun seasonings or hot sauce on most of my food instead of salt. I know some people have trouble with the hot stuff so I advise you to try a little bit and see how it goes. Then gradually increase the spice till you reach your desired level of heat or your tolerance. I was adding Tony Chachere's to my chicken broth when I was on Clear liquids. LOL, you will know soon enough if it will be okay with your new stomach! -

Post-Op, Stopped loosing weight
reading mom replied to Big Ocean's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You aren't doing anything wrong! Most of us experience many stalls along the way. Do your best to keep your spirits up and keep following the plan. It gets better! I promise! Be patient with yourself and stay away from the scale for a week or so. -
Hi, I was sleeved at the end of May. At my first appointment I weighed in at 275. Scary! I did a low carb diet to lose as much weight as I could before surgery and the day before my surgery I was 256. So I have lost 32 lbs since surgery and 51 lbs altogether. I was a self pay patient and that has had good and bad parts about it. The good part is I didn't have to jump though a bunch of hoops to get my sleeve scheduled. I just scheduled it when I was ready and it was convenient for me. I teach school so I did it the day after Memorial Day, my first week of summer vacation. The bad part is I didn't have to attend any classes or support groups and now I'm looking to find an online community for support. My surgery was uneventful and my recovery has been smooth. I have been somewhat disappointed as I was hoping to lose 15 - 20 lbs a month. But I have come to terms with the fact that was an unrealistic expectation for me. I log my food intake daily on my fitness pal. I average 75 - 90 gms of protein and 800 to 900 calories a day. I look forward to getting to know y'all!
