Post-ops: advise hair loss and weak/fatigue
Scorpion11 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello post-ops!! Congrats to everyone!! Keep up the great job!! I'm a November 24, 2013 WLS. Seeking advise on what worked for you, did you get weak/fatigue and hair loss, Any suggestions!? My progress: WLS 11/14/13 5'7 Female 47yrs old. HW 268 size tight 20 SW 266 size 18 CW 233 size 14 GW 165 I'm averaging 2 lbs per week, no exercise due to knee injury/pain. Doctor is happy with my progress. I am too, my battle is to have enough energy to function upon getting up to get ready to drive to work and get through the day. Issues I've been experiencing feeling tired, fatigue and exhausted. I eat all my water/ meals/proteins/vitamins/biotin/omega fish oil and average 600 to 900 calories daily, try to eat more to get energy levels up, helps some days. I'm 3 months as of Friday 2/14/14 and I've started losing globs of hair especially after I shampoo. So I'm washing every other day. I was expecting this may happen, but so emotionally distressing and nerve wrecking to see it come out so much so quickly. I'm totally freaked out. Praying it slows down soon. Anyone else feeling exhausted and losing your hair?? When goes the hair loss stop?? Is it growing back??! -

I'm 3 months post-op and have been drinking/eating all my protein and taking all vitamins, biotin and omega fish oils and just within a week I've started losing globs of hair, especially after I shampoo. So I'm washing every other day. I was expecting this may happen, but so emotionally distressing and nerve wrecking to see it come out so much so quickly. I'm totally freaked out. Praying it slows down soon. -

I'm going on 10wks post-up. My hair has started to shed lots, I try bit to think much about it, as we all know stress will cause it to fall out faster. Grrrrr. I'm drinking all my Protein and taking Vitamins and still shedding. I'm praying it doesn't get worse on my 3rd month as many say that's when it starts. Fingers crossed it slows down.

You're emotion are all normal. Please try not to worry or work yourself up, you will check in, get prepared for surgery and before you know it, will be in recovery. It goes by so quick it will feel like 20 minutes nurses talking to you and giving watered sponges for your dry lips(brung your favorite Chapstick w/you). Hope you can get some rest tonight. Positive energy and prayers are with you. Looking forward to hearing your progress. : ) PS I'm going on 10 wks post-op

----------------------- Had my 8wk post-op appt and my surgeon said my blurry vision may be due to possibly low Vitamin A, so I have to go do lab work. He request full panel if all vitamins and thyroid. I feel relieved somewhat to learn it is related to not enough vitamins and know I will be able to see better in time. I'm also having pain on right side if stomach somewhat by rib cage, not too bad, but pain does come on suddenly, some days more than others. It's not gas, so todo him about it to and apparently I should if been taking Meds for gallbladder right after surgery but they didn't prescribe it bcuz I was feeling too dizzy and weak. I start taking med tomrw hopefully to prevent from having any gallbladder complications or having it removed, very common for WL patients. If pain increases he's going to have me go do an ultrasound. Anyone else having pain towards ride side of stomach? Or did your doc prescribe meds right after surgery to prevent gallstone/gallbladder issues?

Eyesight any differnt?
Scorpion11 replied to FSU GIRL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had my 8wk post-up doctor appt last week. I told my surgeon my eye sight has been bothering me and super blurry, especially when driving at night time. He's having my blood checked and all Vitamins. He said I might be low on Vitamin A. Haven't gone to do lab work yet, since I have to fast and don't have coverage at work, but after reading your post, I'm also going to go buy vitamin A in the mean time. Good luck to everyone, be safe and thank you for sharing. : ) -
8 weeks out, random pains.. help?
Scorpion11 replied to adamfishaa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Adam I agree with Catherine, pls contact your doctor just to be on the safe side. Have them request lab work and an MRI, they will know what do for you. Even though your weeks out, you can still have gad pains. Try to notice if the pain comes on if you haven't had a BM or let gas out. My tummy to left hurt when I having had a BM. On the other hand, I had my WLS on 11/14. I've been doing well with exception of not exercising due to injury pain on low pack and right knee. I had my 8 wk post-op appt last wk and I told the nurse I've been starting to notice pain on my right side, some days are mild but I've noticed after eating the pain comes on and as days go buy I'm starting to feel it more and more She asked me if I had been taking my Actigall med, I replied no, what's it for? She said normally after surgery doctor prescribes Actigall to prevent gall bladder from having to get it removed and Meds helps bile. I told her, no one told or informed me. So I'm going to start taking it tmrw. My pain is in the right and progressing do not sure if this med will help and if it doesn't she says they will have to order me to go get an MRI. It's very common for ppl who are or have lost a significant amount of weight. Fingers cross I'm not one of them. Hope you feel better and keep us posted as to what advice your doctors gives you. -
Slow-losers/Low BMI ers.... do you ever reach goal?!?!
Scorpion11 replied to Moosewife's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Aggi congrats on the weight you have lost. Don't get discouraged, we are all unique and lose differently. It's sounds like your bmi is on the lower end and ppl with lower bmi's than 42 lower lose much less and slower than those with a higher bmi are the ones to lose more faster. I had my WLS on 11/14/13, 5'7 hw 266, sw 244, cw scale at doc ofc read 242, home reads 230. I'm on my post-up week 7 and not losing weight like others for my timeframe, however I'm losing inches like crazy, so don't only look at scale, look at your body transforming. I'd rather lose inches than weight and ok with it as I do see inches melting off Is it worth it? I'd have to day yes, if it wouldn't be for the surgery I wouldn't be down to where I'm at today and would have still prob gain more weight through the holidays. So I'm happy and comfortable with my own progress so far, slow but being patient. Oh and not to forget to mention I haven't been able to exercise due to major low back bulging disc pain and healing from right knee arthroscopy. Off my hb and diabetes type 2 meds and luckily didn't have to start Meds for cholestral. I think it most definitely worth it. As long as you drink lots of Water and your 50 to 80mlg of Protein daily or eat it, is the key to WL success. You might be building muscle dunces toyed exercising 4x a week. Maybe reduce on calories, try to go back to the liquid diet for 1 or 2 weeks to see if that gives you that jump start again. You will lose weight and be successful, give your body time to adjust and you will see it before you expect it. Hang in there and keep following your doctors advise. Hang in there and keep up the great job!! ???? -
------------------------- Barbmeow I'm 7 weeks out and started shedding lots of hair, my hair was already shedding/thinning out lots before WLS, but this week is really bad I'm afraid to brush or shampoo. I tried the Nioxin shampoo but it didn't find it helped. I now washing my hair every other day. From what I've read some lose more than other but it does grow back, that's about the only positive and bright side of the scary experience we are going through. I'm forcing to remind to myself to take all my Vitamins daily and just bought all liquid form as they digest right away, plus my doc informed me I'm super low in Vitamin D so must take lots of it. Stopped at Vitamin Shoppe to buy all: Omega fish oil w/vitamin D3 (taste like lemon, not fishy at all) Multivitamin Vitamin D3 drops Calcium w/vitamin D3 Biotin 5000ml dissolvable by Natrol, bottle says 1 a day but I'm taking 2, they tastes like grape candy too I hope and praying vitamins kick in and helps. I am getting in all my Protein drinks too, Hang in there, I have faith it will stop and will regrow

-------------------- Hi Seela, I hope you feel better too!! My son used to work for a family Tea business. He just left to San Diego right now to get certified as a Tea Master. He's the one that made me peppermint tea leaves when I got home from hospital to relieve my horrible gas pains and it was and still is my miracle make my tummy feel good tea and reliefs gas too. If anyone would like advise on which teas to make and drink send me a private message. He's will be selling organic teas soon. He makes all his teas from loose leaves hot and cool refreshing ones. And ginger teas are delishes and healthy for us. I have been experience blurry vision. I'm assuming it's related to not enough Vitamins but will let y'all know how feeling by Friday since I was able to drink them all today.

-------------------------------------------It's by Natures Way called Alive! Whole food energizer I bought a large one 30 fl oz as it was on sale for $20.00 and the sales person told me he drinks that one daily and he really liked it and feels good. You take 1 Fluid once(30ml) shot daily. It's a citrus flavor( but I still say yuk! But not too bad) and vegetarian(I'm not a vegetarian either) It's all fruit, veggies, and green foods I woke up feeling tired and with headache but made it my goal to get all my vitamins in today. I took all my vitamins and honestly feel so much better this even. I have to admit when I was at the Vitamin Shoppe I felt overwhelmed with so many options to chose from, but told the fella what I needed and what for. My favorite one is the Omega w/vitamin D3 I thought would leave a fishy flavor but on contrary tasted like lemon and left a nice lemony flavor. My calcium w/D3 also tasted citrusy and good. One thing I didn't care to learn was we cannot return if open, but if we must return unopened we get store credit, unlike GNC they allow us to return opened. Hope this helps : ) -
Are you hypoglecmic or diabetic? You may need a bit if sugar to help these symptom go away. If you haven't already been cleared to take your Vitamin, it may be all you need. I was cleared on my 4 wk post-up check up. I'm 6 wks out now and have found I get really light headed and dizzy on and off but more so on days before and during my TOM. I also wake up with headaches on days I didn't get in all my 64oz of fluids. So I drink g2 Gatorade and helps. I have been feeling super tired and fatigued I come straight home from work exhausted and must take a nap, some days I nap during lunch too. I'm just so tired and I get all my small meals and Protein and fluids, but have been lacking on my Vitamins since I returned to work 2 wks ago, not even coffee helps give me a boost. So I stopped at the Vitamin Shoppe and bought all liquids vitamins, not cheap, some were on sale and totaled $90 but I think it's what I need and started to try taking them today. Challenge us to take them with food in separate times. I bought all liquids of --Multivitamin --Iron --Calcium w/vitamin D3 --Vitamin D3 drops ( I was diagnosed low Vitamin D before and after surgery) --Omega w/vitamin D3 --Biotin dissolvable 5000mlg cherry, taste good like grape. ( today I noticed lots of hair falling out. So I took 2 tablets total 10,00mlg, I'm so scared of loosing my hair)

Dreamscometrue, great journaling!!! Congrats on your WLS and success!! You're doing a great job and inspiring and motivating me the pre-op's and post-up's like me. I'm 6 wks post-up and doing well, just not getting my walking/exercise in due to low back injury/pain. WLS was 11/14/13 I'm 5'7 HW 266 SW 244 CW 236 GW 165 I'm losing inches but scale is not moving. I'm ok with my results though. Went from tight size 20 to lose size 16 I get all my Protein, Water and small meals in, but since I returned to work 2 wks ago I find myself not taking all my Vitamins. I have been feeling super tired and fatigued. I know it's got to be not taking all my vitamins. Prior to my surgery I was very on Vitamin D my Endricologist had me on 50k mlg once a week. Went to Vitamin Shoppe and bought all liquids of: Multivitamin Iron Omega 3 w/vitamins D3 Calcium w/vitamin D Vitamin D drops Biotin 5000mlg dissolvable ny Natrol (tastes like cherry/grape) really good. Tried to start taking all Thursday but haven't, can't stand the smell of vitamins especially iron. Yuk!! Look forward to reading your posts. Keep up the great job!! Love you enthusiasm and positive attitude. : )
