Going Crazy Waiting!
gohelpyourself replied to Kiara5244's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Those spasms are starting to subside... I had my surgery 2/3. They were the worst!! That Bentyl helps. -
I would like ppl to share their most favorite items they enjoy that is bariatric friendly> I have a few already. Here are mine... 1. Flax Seeds 2. Chia Seeds 3. Smooth Moves Tea (senna in it to aid with 'movements') 4. Organic Hemp Protein HI-FIBER powder by Nutiva (this stuff is frikken amazing) 5. Fage 0% fat Greek Yogurt (add to my Protein Powder shakes) 6. Royal instant Greek yogurt pudding (use only a tablespoon for added flavor and richness in my protein shakes) 7. Spark Energy drinks from Advocare 8. Rehydrate gel from Advocare (perfect for us because I packs a lot of electrolytes in a gel form when you need to rehydrate but can't guzzle a ton of water) 9. MNS Max from Advocare (metabolic nutrition system which has advanced core nutrition, wellness, sustained energy release and appetite control).... took these pre op and will be taking again after I recover. 10. Sleepworks by Advocare (liquid herbal sleep aid... good stuff. Lavender/Spearmint flavored) 11. Just Good Stuff Peanut Butter (yummy but gas producing) 12. Anything wrapped in a tortilla... anything. LOL 13. Anything Indian. I have one of our docs teaching me how to cook more Indian cuisine b/c I simply LOOOOOOVE it! 14. Fage 2% yogurt w/honey 15. Activa yogurt... regular and greek 16. Happy Farms String cheese (Aldi's) 17. Carmelized Onion Hummus (Wegmans) 18. BabaGanouj and Tahziki 19. Wegmans Basting oil with garlic and herbs 20. Fig Flavored Balsamic Vinegar 21. Morning Star Black Bean Burgers (I need to learn how to make my own) 22. Brown Rice Pasta (delicious) not sure I can eat much of this 23. Cous Cous and Quinoa 24. Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar 25. Cinnamon..... awesome in Protein shakes if adding spinach or kale (kills the bitter taste) I will stop there cuz now I am thinking too hard. I hope other ppl share things they like b/c I definitely do not want to get bored with eating (highly unlikely) but I am interested in other good healthy nutritious finds. Awesome veggies that if you don't eat... you are missing out. Portobello Mushrooms Bok Choy Kale Hot peppers (all kinds... really rev's up your metabolism)

Pre-Op requirements.
gohelpyourself replied to BobbieVSG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every surgeon is different here is what I had to do: I requested appt with surgeon in October.... he was booked until Dec 5. During that waiting period I completed the nutrition course (three classes one hour each over 3 weeks) in October Had my psych eval in November. Meet surgeon on Dec 5 and he sent me for pre op blood work. They sent in my request for surgery day after they got blood work back to my insurance so around Dec 7th. Insurance approved me Dec 17th. Surgeon called and said "you are approved". Sent me for pre op testing at the hospital on January 13. Had EKG, Chest Xray and more blood work. Had to attend a required exercise/post op class at my surgeons office January 15th Had to see my PMD on January 27th for medical clearance. Surgery Feb 3rd. Discharged Feb 5th. Follow up appt Feb 11th. Hope this helps -
Feeling Good! Follow up appointment today went great. Soft Diet!!! Woo Hoooo!
-
The day after is rough... not horrible, just rough. Day 3... discharge day you should feel much much better. I was super worried about the pain too! Make sure they give you that IV Tylenol. That **** works so damn good and I did not believe it would. Did we meet at one of the nutrition classes??? I feel like we met. You look familiar. P.S. Eat up while you can. All your favorites!!! It will be awhile b4 you can enjoy those again after surgery. You are gonna look awesom...
-
Lmao I will def remember to get the good stuff when in the hospital! Im a sissy when it comes to pain! And you look familiar to me as well but I dont think we have meet before. Ive never been to a meeting but I plan on making it to this months at synergy! Ann Marie has me on a pre op pre op diet lol but i sneak in my treat here and there. I know I have to give them up for a bit soon so I am trying to slowly but surely wean myself off of all the junk
-
So glad to hear that you felt better leaving the hospital. That is my worst fear...being in pain and not having access to the good drugs.

Telling people about surgery... Advice needed
gohelpyourself replied to takefeline's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My advice is... stop caring what other ppl think. I don't and believe me.... it is therapeutic. I too am a nurse. I love when people want me to fail cuz it fuels my fire even more. I can usually sniff those ppl out and do my best to really irritate them with my success. I just got into NP school and a lot of those ppl are even more irritated.... I am going to be skinny AND move up the career ladder. Yea... I love ppl who want to see me fail. I internally thank them for giving me relentless motivation. -

miltivitamins
gohelpyourself replied to hopeful2 be slim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was taking a regular multivitamin pre op and I began taking bariatric vitamins immediately post op when I got home... 3 chewable tabs a day. I also take Calcium plus D and Biotin. -
God I am gonna be rich!! I will be saving A LOT on food and wine.
-
The dehydration after drinking can be very problematic. I remember getting up in the middle of the night after drinking couple glasses of wine (pre sleeve of course) and just guzzling Water... we can't do that anymore. I will be seriously limiting my intake of ETOH.
-
I used to drink before socially, I'm not worried about alcoholism, but that's a pretty interesting study. Transfer addictions are a very REAL problem with post bariatric surgery patients! I work in psychiatry. I hope to have exercise be my T.A.

Im so SICK of liquids! I want REAL food!
gohelpyourself replied to Tamik78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
your surgery was on the same day as mine! I had my follow up today and P.A. said I could jump to soft foods (stage 3). I wasn't really eating full liquids (I was essentially eating pureed diet b/c I would take soup with chunks and put it through the blender). I came home scrambled an egg and ate 2 of my sons french toast sticks... went down so good! But I was full. Full not sick but I knew I had enough food. -
Oddly emotional post op?
gohelpyourself replied to Ariella's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can only share my experience but day after surgery was the worst! I was like how in the hell am I supposed to go home tomorrow.... and low and behold.... I felt better. Each day I have felt better. Today I had my post op follow up visit. I am doing so well with tolerating foods... what I thought was 'full liquids' was really more like pureed (oops) so the P.A said I can advance to soft diet. I came home made one scrambled egg and two little french toast sticks because I felt I deserved it!! Tolerated it superbly! I had a few table spoons of Soup for lunch and Protein shake for dinner. scale isn't moving but I feel still pretty swollen from surgery. I am going to wait for one month post op to weigh myself again (March 3rd) b/c I am getting too obsessed with the scale. The P.A. also said the stomach spasms subside in time (thank God). Feel better. -
Happy Monday. Best wishes to all getting surgery this week!

Very common after surgery. I bet you will find a lot of information on that if you googled it. -

so my Manhattans are out I take it? -
I am an advisor for Advocare. It is a health and wellness company that has several different lines of products. I love their products and best of all b/c I am an advisor I get 40percent discount on all products. I really want to start using their Meal Replacement shakes b/c they are 1. DELICIOUS 2. a great deal with my discount 3. DELICIOUS. They are 220 calories though so it is really supposed to be a meal replacement but I am wondering if that is too many calories. The bariatric drink I use now (Fusion) has 100 calories less. Any thoughts? They also have Protein shots, nutrition bars, Vitamins, and a slew of other awesome products I love. Decisions, decisions. I am hoping someone out there is using Advocare post op and has done their research on how it measures up for the bariatric patient. Thanks in advance for any feedback on this. Joann
