Dr. Illan Patient, Update 6 months out
JeanZ_RN replied to supbanana's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Wow! Wonderful job and amazing pics! You look very happy. Are you tall? -
So, should I be 'disappointed', 'flattered' or 'indifferent'?
JeanZ_RN replied to Madam Reverie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with the other posts, especially about how you write - it evokes such a clear picture! Recommend you find some people who haven't seen you since your journey began, -
Everyone who tries it, please post regarding your results. I look forward to hearing how it works out, particularly with Premier Protein shakes. Thanks.

One of the veterans on this forum, ButterTheBean, has this as part of his signature: The 3 week stall.....If you just had surgery and your weight loss has already stalled, read THIS. It's a very helpful article - I recommend it!

You've lost an average of 7 lbs a WEEK and you don't know if that's good?? It's GREAT! And since you're working out that much, you're probably adding muscle, which weighs more than fat per cubic inch, so that makes your weight loss numbers even more impressive. Good job!

Private pay may be the last resort, but it is always an option. It was my only choice, so I didn't have to wonder or jump through hoops.
-
Quest Protein bars! LOL... but I'm serious. I don't cook, so I keep a selection of them handy all the time.
-
I keep a pencil and paper beside me, and jot the time down. Otherwise I'd lose track.
-
Sounds like it's just from walking more. If that's it, it will ease with time, and no food or drink will make any difference. Think of it as a badge you get for moving more. If it bothers you, try taking some Tylenol.
-
Both, or just one? Have you been more active than usual in the past few days?
-
I'm with mooncat. I asked my surgeon why, and he told me it's to keep food in the stomach longer, so we won't be hungry again as soon.

Blue earrings and bracelet to match the shoes? -
Yes, I experienced that. It didn't help that my 2nd month included Christmas and all the carbs that brings.

Initial Consultation Questions
JeanZ_RN replied to triplenmomma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had no drain and no catheter. I did have to administer blood thinner shots (Lovenox) for 10 days after surgery. Other topics they will probably cover with you include: What pre-op diet is required, and for how many days? If the pre-op diet is to include Protein shakes (and most do) what brands are acceptable? What are the post-op diet requirements? e.g., What will you be allowed to have while in the hospital, and when will you be progressing to the next stage, and the next? If there is a post-op diet stage that calls for full liquids (and there probably will be) what constitutes full liquids? My doc/NUT said it's anything that would go through a straw, but they didn't want post-op patients using a straw. What restrictions will there be on lifting, and for how long? My surgeon's office had most of this written out in a booklet for their new patients. Good luck! -
Severe unexpected pain, vomiting, 5 1/2 mos out
JeanZ_RN replied to NMJG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Glad to hear you're feeling somewhat better. Silver lining, if the increased restriction remains after you recover, ... it might lead to weight loss being faster, as it was [for most of us] the first month or so after surgery ? -

How are you feeling today? Have the problems persisted? Any further ideas on what the cause could be? -

Gallbladder problem? Or did the CT rule that out? -
I LOVE the Quest Protein bars! I get them online, at http://www.questproteinbar.com. I've purchased a few flavors at GNC or other retail stores, but found them to be fresher purchased directly from Quest. The cost of the bars is about $2.00 each - can you beat that for a MEAL that is high protein / low carb, portable, available on demand and tastes GREAT? Thanks for the post about the new Cookies & creme flavor - I am definitely going to try it!

Luck had nothin' to do with it! Hard work and perseverance won the day! Congratulations!

Getting yelled at for losing "too much"
JeanZ_RN replied to Ree's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You saw your NUT at 1 week post op and again at 7 weeks post op, and between those visits you lost 20 lbs, right? Well, 20 lbs in 6 weeks sounds GREAT from what I've read on this forum! I didn't lose that quickly, but I would have been thrilled if I had! My understanding is that people with a higher BMI tend to lose more quickly. As long as you feel well - lots of energy, etc. - and you're following the plan, just keep on keepin' on! The pounds do drop more slowly as time goes on, so make the most of this rapid loss period. -
Did anyone else have an anti-nausea patch to wear?
JeanZ_RN replied to Zoumommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, and mine stayed on just fine. Put it on and forget about it until time to remove it. -
Getting light headed, is it normal?
JeanZ_RN replied to Ree's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm with the other RNs - orthostatic hypotension. The reason it happens so often during a shower or after a bath is that the warm Water dilates the blood vessels, and gravity causes the blood to pool in the legs, leaving less of it available to the brain. -
