How do you respond to, "Wow, it looks like you're still losing" or "How much more weight are you planning to lose?"
sandisleeve replied to Comfy_Blue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
People can be nasty and straight rude or condescending about weight loss ...I even had a fellow wls patient make hurtful comments directed at me obviously due to her post wls lack of weight loss progression Ie: I don't want to lose too fast and have a bobble head OR I don't want to have too much loose skin that's why I make sure I don't lose too fast. ???? I'm sorry but most wls patient can't really fully control the speed of loss especially within the first 6-8 months and thankfully I have very little to no loose skin at all. i didn't expect to lose as fast as I did simply because I didn't start off awfully high (~ 240 at 5'7" on dec 12, 2013) I lost 20 a few months prior to vsg and a total of about 50 net loss from my all time high prior to vsg. HW 293, surgery 240. Current 163-168, original goal was 175 which I got to at only 4.5 months out but now I wish for 155-160???? Other colleague comments: - how much weight did u lose exactly? - when did you start losing exactly? - you will soon disappear. - you lost half of yourself. - DONT lose anymore! Black people aren't meant to be skinny. ???????????????????? - are you ok? -are you "going overboard" with not eating? -you look like a size XXS! - so you lost all that weight from taking spin classes ???? only? Wow, spin classes must be magical! - what the hell did you do? The GASTRIC BYPASS! ???????????????????? Some Family&friend comments: - don't u think you are "skinny enough" now? - so what are you now? A size 2 or a size 0? - well don't give away all of your big clothes cause you might gain the weight back like before. Lol, smh, ugh ???????? there are more comments but I'm getting aggravated just thinking about them Some people are very pleasant and continuously remind me how good I look which I do appreciate. Share what u like with folks when u are ready, only a handful of people know I did it or have heard from me personally that I had it done. It's none if anyone else's business. Good luck! Close to my highest back in 2009 compared to my current weight is pictured above -

Awesome job ???????????? -
*********Tough to be fully prepared because everyone's post surgical response to wls varies so much. I really did expect the best but I had some challenges with food tolerance for a long while and had to remain on only full liquids for 6 months due to post op gastritis and inflammation???????? but I got through it. I'm just about 11 months out and under the goal I set for myself. I'm more confident and happier than I've been in a very long time. Be sure to take it easy early on and don't force foods down or skip food phases. Wls is major major major surgery and you need to heal and be patient with the process. It's going to be hard not enjoying decadent foods during the holidays trust me, I know, as I was sleeved on dec 12. 2013. I cried myself to sleep many times because although u have no appetite the smells and the sight of seeing others enjoy and indulge in foods that you can't is quite an emotional roller coaster ride. I think I was depressed for a while during that time but u may be stronger so don't fret. I still can't eat much so the holidays this year will still be challenging but it's worth it. Food no longer controls me, I now have better control on it. Good luck and stay positive! ????☺️Stay rested, try to walk as much as possible and be sure to stay hydrated to prevent dehydration and it's very mean cousin, constipation ???????????????????????? also realize that wls is just part of the journey. we reeeeeally have to change our mindset when it comes to the vital importance of nutritious foods and regular effective physical fitness if we seek long lasting lifetime results.

*************** Thanks so much @ria☺️???????? Eating wise: I'm not perfect, I do eat chips crackers and vegan Protein Cookies more often than I should (a little just about everyday ????????) but I'm human. I make sure I get at least 90-100 grams of protein daily, take all my Vitamins and strive to drink at least 8-10 cups of Water daily. I focus on lean protein such as chicken, fish and turkey. I also pretty much don't ever touch or even think about or miss bread, rice, Pasta, decadent pastries, creamy drinks, soda or alcohol. I probably consume a bit too many calories for someone a little less than a year out but I am committed to fitness. Typically average around 1700 calories per day ...I still get most of my protein from Premier Protein shakes, Greek yogurt and protein bars such as balance bars, Think thin and premier crisp. I eat often, nearly every hour or 2 I'm nibbling on something. My hunger is back but it's not raging. I guess I just like the taste of food ???? Exercise wise: I'm very committed and really enjoy pretty much all low impact fitness. My favorite things to do are group fitness classes: spin ????, hot yoga, power yoga ????☺️, Pilates and barre. My confidence has soared and I feel and look so much stronger. Can't believe I am actually loving fitness. I think it's a combination of the fact that I took pretty extreme measures for weightloss and I fear the "devilish animal" known as constipation ????. early on when I wasn't very active and not getting in enough water I suffered so much with that and hope to never EVER EVER EVER revisit that experience again ???????????????????? Best of luck to you during this very unique wls journey of ours ????

****Thanks so much Deez! You inspire me too, I think we both had some challenging post op experiences initially but are progressing beautifully now. It's not an easy journey but nothing worth having is ever easy. Keep up the good work and hopefully our tolerances for healthier foods will get much better in the near future. -

Haven't posted on bariatric pal in a long time cause there is so much wls support on Instagram and Facebook. Vsg 121213 at about 240, I'm 5'7" HW ever 293 back in 2009-2010 Current 163-166 Hope to maintain 155-160 but simple carbs are challenging to get away from My hunger is back but not as strong as prior to wls and I still have major restriction (ie can only get in 2 chicken tenders within 35 minutes) I follow up with protein shakes or a protein bar an hour or so later to get in enough protein and calories for the day I tolerate chips crackers and vegan protein cookies better than lean meats and fruits which is crazy ???? I workout often, at least 5-7x a week mostly hot yoga, power yoga, Pilates, spin and barre fitness classes ????????☺️???????????????????? Good luck everyone! -

I don't have many before pics either, especially around surgery time. I avoided the camera and the only reason I have the one before pic above is because it was my cousins baby shower pic which I was required to be in as God mommy to be ???? -
