  2. I sure did have a semi funeral the last couple weeks even though I managed to lose 23 pounds over the 2 months prior to my surg date ... I'm 11 days out today Some of my so called "lasts"-- I say semi funeral because I really did track my points with weight watchers and kept my indulgences within reason with some modification later in the day: Brown rice shrimp tempura & crab sushi rolls Grilled shrimp with jack daniels sauce and breadsticks at TGIF Duck roasted in plum sauce & fried chicken (Malaysian yum!!!!) Nonfat caramel machiattos no whip at Starbucks Chicken Marsala with breadstick & salad at Olive Garden & peach sangria (yummy!!!!) I didn't include pizza which I sooooooo regret!!! Sweets!!! I'm a home baker so I dabbled in the following: Apple crumble, sweet potato pie, carrot cake & cream cheese icing, banana nut bread (made with butter & sour cream FULL FAT), weight watchers snack bars -- just to name a few Missing fried fish and pizza since they weren't a part of my semi funeral -- lol-- oh yes I miss rugalas(cookies) too -- tiny rolled up pastries with apricot and chocolate filling .... Ohhhh man!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Day 11 post op for me and doc/surgeon in ER both informed me that My bloodwork showed signs of pancreatitis (never heard of that condition until today) -- thankfully it's taken care of non operatively ... They are going to get as much fluid in me as possible but unfortunately they'll need to monitor me over the next 2 nights ... Praying I will be out of the hospital by Christmas morning the latest .. Didn't plan on this but thankful I am in the process of healing the problem Prayers and thoughts appreciated. I shed a few tears already but trying my best to stay strong. We never really know where this journey will take us but I'm hopeful all will go well for me and everyone else in our community

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

--- oh man what I would give for some goldfish or pirate booty or popcorn!!! I'm on 4 weeks liquids and probably wont get to taste tuna or flaky fish until jan 9/10... I may extend my time off from work cause this experience is too physically and mentally draining at this point ... I'm in ER Now getting fluids possibly due to dehydration and also have tested for low blood sugar
  5. --I had to take a sleep test but thankfully the cpap was not needed cause I was negative for sleep apnea as I suspected initially

How long were you sore after surgery?

I had hiatal hernia repair along with the VSG --- pain pain pain pain until day 6 -- took roxicet around the clock and was pretty sleepy that first week out -- also moaning and groaning throughout the day Day 11 post op today and incision pain is bearable but just feeling incredibly weak with soo many things I want to get done -- in the ER now awaiting assessments It gets Better with time as far as pain and I'm sure same goes with the weakness but I'm def not there yet
  7. Several people have told me I'm not "that big" and I don't even look over 200 ie: BFF, sleep doc staff, even pre op room tech the day of my surgery (lol) just to name a few My aunt really pissed me off about my past and how at one point I was smaller than her -- yea no shit but that was 11 years ago and I have never managed to sustain my weightloss efforts -- I'm just sick and tired of the yoyo lifestyle I started journey fluctuating between 240-60 and got to 237 day of surgery ... Now around 220, 11 days post op Im actually in the ER now due to lightheaded-neas and fatigue, chills but I'm hoping all goes well
  8. Day 11 for me and been feeling super weak and light headed the last few days .. Also have chills so my friend took me to the ER ... I'm awaiting to be seen by the medical staff Hoping all goes well but would appreciate well wishes and prayers!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

I've been feeling very cold lately and a little hot once in a while -- I also had my first experience with some mild stomach area cramping which I attribute to the fact that I drank my protein shake too close to bed time It's hard to get down 2 protein shakes a day for me even tho I have no real issues swallowing... I will head out soon to pick up some isopure clear and hope that helps me get in my recommended 40+ oz of protein at this stage I hear apple melon and grape flavored are pretty good
  11. -- That is very interesting-- so many varied recommendations by skilled professionals in the same field

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

I would have fainted on clear liquids for a week with my normal pre op stomach ... My surgeon only required 1 day liquids pre op (still tough) then 7 days clear postop --- eventually became super weak on day 6 and started full liquids which helped a bit I've been blending my RTD protein drinks (GNC lean vanilla bean) with baby food like banana or mango or pear - dash with powdered nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon and vanilla extract Deeeeeeelish!! Will try adding Dannon light and fit Greek yogurt soon with or without the baby food

----Wow@steak 15 days out -- only a dream for me My NUT told me that the sleeve really isn't healed for minimum of 4-6 weeks (she mentioned Peanut Butter (my fave) really gets stuck and shouldn't be tried until 6 weeks) I'm also instructed to avoid breads, rice, Pasta, red meats, fried foods and baked goods for minimum 6-12 months Not sure how long for alcohol but I assume at least 6 months too I'm afraid all these restrictions will force a really fast weightloss leading to to low a weight for my large frame --- I'll revisit some restrictions with her as time goes on I've already lost 15 pounds (currently 220-221) and I'm only 10 days out and on full liquids

    Soup

Ask your nut but broth is permitted during stage 1 in most cases as long as its not cream based

------Feel better!! I was on dilaudid for first 2 days every 4 hours --- loved it!! They moved me to roxicet claiming i cant go home with dilaudid which wasn't strong enough but I suffered through ...also had hiatal hernia repair (ouch!!!!!!) It gets better with time ... I'm 10 days out today and feeling little to no pain just lack of energy ... Can't wait to get to soft solids You already look so slim in your avatar

    Trans nasal Endoscopy

Oh I gagged it was terrible -- don't think I was numbed enough and that spray was grooooooos!! Didn't want to be knocked out for such a quick procedure
  19. I was heavily considering the band due to its reversible minimally invasive nature but like others concerns about foreign body, fill cycles, slips, erosions and conversions I didn't want to be bothered .. The sleeve scared me initially, I mean come on, a massive part of our stomachs are trashed forever! NO turning back .... Oy!! I'm 9 days out but still get nervous about it ... My friend even asked if I could put it back in one day, lol I had over 80 lbs to lose and thought band wouldn't help me achieve that as fast or keep it off over time ... RNY still freaks me out (not judging anyone but there seems to be more serious complications with that one just out and overtime) Search YouTube and you will find plenty who are perfectly happy with either of the 3 major WLSs.. To each his own Sleeve it was for me! Missing food but still glad I didn't choose the other 2 options

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Can't say I have felt true physical hunger yet at 9 days out but boy do I think, dream, miss my fave foods -- the aromas are the enemy .... We are human and all that is natural .... Can't wait when I can start introducing solid foods in bite size portions of course probably around early February Lessofsarah on YouTube, pinterest & Instagram has some amazing VSG friendly recipe ideas I can't wait to get my paws on!! Ie: cauliflower crust pizza, lasagna stuffed bell peppers, Zucchini noodles, crab cakes, etc
  21. -- Surprised you were permitted to drink milk so early out.. Didn't get approved for that until stage 2 started on dec 19 and still haven't tried it .... My NUT says I can do unsweetened almond milk if I want now .... Initially some WLS patients can't tolerate dairy Just a note --- I was sick of broth too until I just tried paneras chicken veggie broth; I just strained out the chunky ingredients and the broth tastes scrumptious!!! Hoping I don't get sick of paneras broth. Good luck to you!
  22. Pain was tough for me for the first 5 days ... I'm 9 days out today First night thought I was going to pass out due to excessive pain ... Thankfully I didn't I'm now 2 days with no pain meds... Occasionally take the naseau and vomiting med but I haven't vomited -- incision pain hurts a bit but not taking anything for it Drove for the first time today and feeling so so -- need more energy and nutrients Unbearable pain gets better with time, hang in. There!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

-- My understanding according to my NUT is that protein shakes are considered a meal and we should wait 30 minutes after drinking any of it before drinking water -- maybe that will help with reduction in cramping.... I haven't had any cramping or pressure and I'm 9 days out but I do get rumbling and gurgling Shakes taste the same way they did prior to my VSG (not great and not horrible)I just can't sip too fast which of course is not recommended for any WLS patient

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

So... Its my 1st day (post op day 9) that I woke up without moaning and groaning in discomfort and 2nd day without the need for roxicet I do still have mild incision pain and I know I could take e.s. Tylenol for that but I don't think I will .... Yesterday my surgeon told me the abdominal binder I was using is really preventing me from taking deep breaths which could lead to pneumonia (yikes!) and I thought I was doing myself good cause it helped with moving around and the incisional pain.. Will be tossing that out Like many I've never felt a hunger pain since surgery on dec 12 but I do think about dream about and miss my fave foods --- the smells are so inviting and seeing people around me eat normally is a bit sad ... WLS is NOT the easy way out!! I probably won't be able to eat normal solid foods until very late january or early February which is a bit depressing but hoping that time goes by fast cause I really need better energy for everyday tasks and fitness routines... I'm losing weight but I'm also very much fatigued which I don't think is a very healthy combination What helps a bit with blocking food aromas is rubbing a bit of vapor rub around my nostrils Good luck everyone! Hoping your recovery and post op diet experiences are smooth and not so depressing.

    Guys I need your help!

My blood pressure has been normal from time of surgery until now and still I felt super super weak around day 6/7 .... I just think need more solid nutrition which won't come about for a while ... This whole pre op and post op diet seems so unnatural to how humans function ... My doc cleared me for cardiovascular fitness today at 8 days out (ie spinning & jogging) but I have little to no energy .... Very odd; I trust his expertise but something about that seems odd .. I will walk daily but spin classes will wait until I get to mushy stage 3 in mid January at least
