Can't "eat" enough
sandisleeve replied to sandisleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
-- I have a few I picked up at Vitamin shoppe the other day (yes@pricey) ... I only tried the coconut flavor so far and I reeeeally didn't enjoy the after taste It does go down pretty easy but someone mentioned that it may be more palatable if I dilute with Water which I will try soon I have the lemon tea and grape to try -

Can't "eat" enough
sandisleeve replied to sandisleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone!! I will follow through -- I may need a shot cause the fatigue is getting the best of me and hiatal hernia discomfort is no joke .... I can't imagine progressing to soft solids in 2 weeks the way I feel now but I need that energy --- it's a catch 22 I will focus on liquids cause god knows I don't want to make another visit to ER although I did feel great after those bags of IV fluids a few days ago ... Will officially be 15 full days out later today My NUT keeps insisting I get Protein in even tho I tell her it's tough for me -
When is sushi permitted? I'll eventually ask my nut but just wondering how everyone fared with it and how early they were able to safely manage it? I'm 2 weeks out today and can start cooked flaky fish on jan 8 or so- can't wait! I miss sushi and hope I don't have to wait 6-12 months for it

Please update list -- I was sleeved on 12.12.13 not 12.10 Thanks! -
Thanks for the feedback -- my concern is due to its raw state -- I know there are cooked sushi roll options
-
-- Wow pretty early out ... Was that for sushi rolls with rice or sashimi or both? I prefer rolls

I'm 2 weeks out and although cleared for cArdio by doc I only manage to walk a bit here and there due to fatigue and lack of nutrients at this point Prior to VSG I was spinning 2-4 times a week and walking jogging 2-3 times per week I looooooooove to spin and miss it dearly but I don't want to risk fainting so I will attempt to try it again once I get my energy back up during my solid foods stage at the end of January or so .... Can't wait!!!! Spinning with a great instructor and playlist can trump any workout if you ask me!!!!! Best high ever!! Feel like I can fly after each class (: I have taken hot yoga and Zumba and kickboxing/Bootcamp in the past but prefer to spin over any of that

Post Opters- did your hungry go away forever or return?
sandisleeve replied to Comfy_Blue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
-- I'll be 2 weeks out tomorrow And have not felt even a spec of hunger pangs but I miss food like crazy!!! I dream of it literally!! The aromas are sooo tempting and I think about when I'll be able to enjoy some faves again all the time ... In reality that Probably won't happen until February ... Seeing my family eat what they want is a bit depressing too Glad I don't feel hunger At this stage cause I can't really have what I normally would eat so I have to look at the brighter side Even with puréed oatmeal and cream of wheat thinned out with Water and almond milk it takes me almost 20 minutes to eat one tablespoon .. Hard to get in my Protein (50 grams) and water requirements(6 cups) for the day too but hope that gets better with time .. I'm just tired And not in the mood to eat/drink what I'm permitted so I seem to not manage to get it all in before bed I mixed half cup decaf black coffee with half cup premier chocolate Protein shake today and I actually enjoyed that over taking the shake as is Can't wait to enjoy solids one day even though I know it will have to be bits at a time -
December 2013 Sleevers This Is Our Month Are Yall Ready!?
sandisleeve replied to sleevinIT's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats!!! I was Sleeved dec12 and went from around 237 to 219.2 this morning .... Down almost 18 pounds in 13 days ... I am a bit fatigued and still on full liquids but I know I'll feel better with time. Trying my best to keep a positive mindset during this very emotional time. -
December 2013 Sleevers Come In!
sandisleeve replied to AtlantaRed's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
--- I was just thinking the same thing and texted my girlfriend about how blessed I feel to have all my quality medical and follow up care fully paid for by empire BCBS NJ I think sleeve plus hiatal Hernia repair work costs over $20,000 in NJ/NY area -- not to mention the rx and potential ER, hospital stay, and routine follow up appointments and pre op requirements .... All that has to reach up to $50,000 or more in the first year .... Without lottery money or a wealthy husband in my life there is no way I could manage that on my own without adequate insurance I'm very thankful and I want this surgery to work for me longterm .. Would hate to have gone through all this only to regain again and again and again I'm 13 days out and can't wait to eat!!!! Lol -
Does anyone regret this surgery?
sandisleeve replied to Wenniegirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
----I'm only 13 days out and love that I'm slimming down but can't wait to have more energy and eat regular foods .. I can say with certainty that I don't regret choosing the sleeve over the RNY or Lapband due to some of the issues and concerns I've read about over the years .. There is no perfect WLS but I think the sleeve was the best fit for me compared to others .... Recovery isn't always smooth sailing for most no matter which WLS route we take -
Do you have a caloric tipping point?
sandisleeve replied to Fluffnomore's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm afraid to work out even though my doc cleared me for cardiovascular fitness ... I will keep it simple and just walk 20 mins a day but in my mind it can't be safe for me to start spinning and jogging again when I feel pretty weak due to low calorie intake -- spin classes burn upwards of 600 cals in 45 minutes ... I don't think im taking in any where near 600 cals a day at 12 days out ... I lost 16 pounds in the first 8 days out of surgery and I think that rate is too fast for my starting weight (237 @5'7") I'm going to wait until I get in more quality frequent protein during stage 3 which starts on jan 8 or so --- even then I will assess my energy level and determine if spinning or kickboxing is feasible --- don't want to faint in either class or on my way home I enjoy working out -- I'm a spinaholic but I just want to be smart about it ???? Just came out of the ER yesterday due to dehydration so I'm taking it easy -

I'm afraid I'm not getting enough -- will try to blend up some thinned oatmeal tomorrow with almond milk and water I'm afraid to say it may be something like 400 cals on a good day (some clear broth and maybe 1-1.5 protein shakes, & green tea) I don't like sf jello and the sf pops turn me off after over a week on them Can't wait to try sf pudding -- hope I can tolerate that better than jello -
Sensitive to smells?!?!
sandisleeve replied to Halfpint1218's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My smell sensitivity hasn't changed a bit I don't think - things that turned me off before still do at the same level and things that smell amazing smell just as good I'm 12 days out and can't wait to eat some real solid food!!! No hunger pangs at all -- just mild weakness from lack of nutrients i guess and wishing i could enjoy some favorites in moderation of course. Scrambled eggs, chilli, turkey cuts, cheese, crackers, nut butters, popcorn --- oh man! The simple things that you never thought you would really miss -
My surgeon said VSG can disrupt the menstrual cycle ..... I've head women on YouTube report that they missed their period for several months after getting VSG (not immediately after but a few months out and then bam no period for several months) Makes me nervous a bit

--- I think many of us have researched thoroughly ...I know of many who have debated doing it for several years before going through with it even but that doesn't guarantee that you won't have any regrets initially out ---- I don't think anyone can fully know how their experience will be post op ... It's a very emotionally and physically draining change with pros and cons -
-- if you search YouTube you might find a clip that demonstrates the procedure I felt bad during mine cause I slightly pushed the docs hand away -- don't think he was happy about that either but it felt as if he were forcing it down too fast (which I'm sure he wasn't) and I was violently gagging thinking I was choking... It's a really short procedure and maybe you can ask the nurse of you can hold or lightly squeeze his hand to help ease the discomfort ... That helped me tremendously during the last few seconds of it (the nurse offered after I pushed the docs hand away, obviously I couldn't speak at that point)

--- you make such valid points!! I know God brought me through this for a healthier future ... I'm tired of the yoyo lifestyle and I don't want this surgery to have been in vane Jumping from 180 to 293 over 7 years is horrible Then from 293 to 199 and back to 260 within 3 years is sad I'm only 31 and all that up and down is very unhealthy All the ridicule and looks and judgement each time I gain (mostly from obese folks too, nuts I know) I'm sick and tired of that horrible trend and I believe the VSG tool will help me keep it off longterm -

sandisleeve replied to Wenniegirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes @ regrets!!! I'm now post op day 12; had unexpected hiatal hernia repair at time of VSG and pain was intense p.o. day 1-6....then started feeling super duper weak day 6-now; Protein shakes didn't help much with that I reeeeeally miss normal solid foods--- the smells the textures the socialization around it ... I've had to decline 4 dinner party invites so far ... It's sad Then I got badly dehydrated on day 11 I'm better now but it's really an unpredictable ride ...I'm losing weight but I also have little to no energy at this point I know things will improve but it's been a challenge and psychologically not sure if anyone can fully prepare for the obstacles ahead especially the ones that occur within the first few months out with all the restrictions, temptations and low energy -
December 2013 Sleevers Come In!
sandisleeve replied to AtlantaRed's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
-- I saw the same episode while in the ER yesterday and have read so much about the protein benefits of greek yogurt unfortunately many of them taste so sour to me ...someone recommended trader joes version which I will try as soon as I'm cleared for it... Also liked dr oz's section about adding flax oil to nut butter for added health benefits. I'm a big fan of golden ground flax meal added to just about anything (ie: hot & cold cereal, yogurt, homemade pancakes, salads, smoothies, muffins, etc) Happy eating everyone!!! -

I'm home!! And I feel 100x better!!! Please please please everyone -- sip sip sip sip sip all day!!! Getting dehydrated is no joke and pretty easy to do even for a plain water lover like me. I guess in the past few days I've tried to focus on protein for more energy then would still get tired still and end up falling asleep super early without completing my daily water intake. I really hope this is an isolated incident for me and none of you post ops will have to endure. So glad my pancreas wasn't the underlying issue as my ER doc suspected -- I really got worried there. Peace & blessings to everyone!! Good luck Christmas eve sleevers!! Sweet dreams (: -
