Oh yea forgot to mention that I'm always always cold too! You'll find several threads on that very topic. It seems to be a universal theme among post vsgErs.

Anyone Use Dr. Nusbaum In Nj?

-- Glad you made it to doc office and back home safely. I would not have gone out that day and I only live 5 minutes away from the office. Lol So funny @if your insurance plays nice --- I had the same exact thoughts when I was going through the preop phase of appointments. Thinking I hope I'm not wasting my time coming and going and waiting only to find out I'm denied. Thankfully it all worked out pretty quickly too. Only 3 months. I'm thankful surgery went well but of course recovery is a totally different ball game. So sweet of you to check up on me! Can't wait until you are on the loser's bench. I'm actually down 25 pounds since surgery on dec12 so I'm thankful but just wish I had some great energy to go with it. I miss my spin classes.

Anyone Use Dr. Nusbaum In Nj?

-- How ironic ATK! Yes I've been using the chocolate premier Protein Shakes and GNC vanilla bean -- also tried Isopure vanilla powder mixed with skim milk that's ok Nothing tastes amazing to me but I know I need them for energy and healing -- I'm not even depressed about not eating regular foods at this stage cause I know my Hernia would curse me out -- eventually I'll get there is my thought process now. I just literally forced down almost 3 cups of Water in the past hour -- hernia hates me now but I have to do it according to our med staff -- I really dont want to end up in ER again Apparently the nut says my hernia should be healed now at 25 days out but without the carafate solution rx I'm on now I doubt I would be able to get in 8oz in the hour -- I really don't think or feel like I'm healed hernia wise How are you healing now? I remember you mentioned one of your incisions didn't look good to you. Mine are ok just been having some sharp pain around them but Joan says its normal so I won't worry -- I have hernia and energy issues on my mind anyway Taking it One day at a time ....

Anyone Use Dr. Nusbaum In Nj?

Thanks for asking! I was battling constipation for a good 5 days and have had some movement recently but not sure if I'm totally out of the woods Saw dr and Carla and Joan the pa today and they have all reiterated the same things to me: I need more fluids and Protein. but its so hard with the hernia repair I like plain Water so it's sad that I can't get enough in and that it's causing all of my fatigue and weakness and potential hair loss Hope all is well with you!

December 2013 Sleever Pounds Lost Log

I'm 25 days out..... HW in 2013: 260 (Hw ever in 2009: 293) SW: about 236 CW as of this morning: 210.4 (I'm 5'7") Ultimate maintenance goal: 165-170 Like many others I'm Happy to be losing just wish I had more energy and could tolerate more real foods, I'm scared everything will hurt my hernia repair. I tried thinned oatmeal and it felt like rocks in my chest, so heavy. Even water and tea is still a challenge. I have had to take additional time off work because of this but hoping I'm back to normal soon. I've been battling constipation but have had Some relief from it since last night although not so sure I'm totally out of the woods.

    light headed

-- I'm about 24 days out and lightheaded/warm headed feelings have been my greatest complaint since day 6 ... Was hospitalized for dehydration on day 11 but still struggling with those symptoms and constant fatigue and overall weakness --- I think my challenge with getting in fluids is due to my hernia repair pain which carafate Rx has helped with a bit but still find challenging I've tried thinned oatmeal and cream of wheat but my hernia hated it -- felt like rocks in my chest -- I'm scared to try anything like that again ... Baby food blended and FAGE Greek yogurt blended with the RTD shakes are ok but still challenging so I don't drink those all the time -- I do feel like I need more nutrients and protein along with Water of course --- it's a full time commitment I've been battling constipation recently and found that colace capsules plus magnesium citrate have helped Sip sip sip all day so you don't end up in ER My blood pressure, oxygen and temperature were normal in ER but blood sugar was low - I have no co morbidities Hope you feel better soon!
  8. My surgeon informed me that our stomachs/sleeves don't make noises it's actually our intestines even if it does sound like its coming from the stomach area -- he says it's normal.
  9. -- I plan on returning them as well. Gross!!

    Plain water

I'm just like you abarta-- plain ice cold water turns me on! Lol But after VSG and hernia repair it's tough -- I've resorted to ice chips until I can fully tolerate ice water -- ice chips aren't easy either but less discomfort than ice water

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

--- Atlanta yes I understand I have to continue the s.s. I did Not have any constipation while on pain meds, dilaudid in hospital then roxicet for a week. i just had diarrhea for a few days and extreme fatigue for a while I Am on a ppi 2x a day and a pink carafate solution 3x a day that coats my stomach for ease with sipping due to major crying Induced hernia pain, pulsing and pressure -- it helps a little but my PA says the constipation is not from those rx's it's from Insufficient fluids Thanks for your support, my family thinks I need to toughen up.

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

-- Thanks everyone for suggestions. Wow that's interesting AtlantaRed. I'll see how it goes but I'm afraid of what they may have to do to my bum in the ER. I guess I have to get passed that if it means long lasting relief and my way back to normal living. I have to get back to work but am in no condition to return at this point with minimal fluid intake, constipation, hernia discomfort, fatigue/lightheaded-ness, etc So not looking forward to anymore pushing but I realize I'll have to with a foot stool now of course Tmi but It really is like an intense workout minus the euphoric feeling

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

----Hi Care1175: Thank you for your concern and I did fear I would have to make another visit to the ER .. I was there almost 2 weeks ago for dehydration After trying the magnesium citrate per my PA and increasing fluids and walking around things seem To be moving for me a tiny bit better --- still painful to push it out and there is still more inside that needs to come out but I would say I'm getting a bit better and not worse so I'll hold off on the ER and pray I won't need to go My belly was a bit bloated but I attributed that to the increase in fluids my doc office is forcing me to get in to combat the constipation I'll see how things go but boy oh boy constipation is very very serious; wouldn't wish it on anyone

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

-- I'm still struggling with fluid intake at 24 days out (had hernia repair too) I feel so weak, still battling constipation the past 5 days; I'm on colace and miralax - had 1 runny bm but now My poop seems to be stuck and im in terrible pain My phys asst says give it some time and increase my fluids (easier said than done) She suggested a rectal suppository as well which freaks me out due to the pain I'm going through now with being stuck I never suffered with constipation like this before and it's nooo fun I want to cry I'm trying to chug my water but its a slow go --- can't wait for all this to be a thing of the past Best wishes!

    When can I eat bread?

My PA informed me that I still can't have communion wafer & wine and I'm 23 days out. Pretty torn up about that but Id rather be safe than sorry and I know God fully understands.

    When can I eat bread?

-- you should speak to the NUT in your surgeons office for accuracy. mine suggests staying away from most types of the following items for 6 months to a year depending on my tolerance level: White bread/rice Pasta (pinterest has great alternatives such as spaghetti squash and Zuchinni noodles or lasagna stuffed peppers) Sweets/pastries (grilled or baked fresh fruit can help ward off cravings) Fried foods (supposedly causes gallbladder issues in some WLS patients) Caffeine White sugar (torani sugar free Syrups are great as is Truvia) Real butter (smart balance is recommended and not too bad to me) 6 weeks: nut butter (can't wait!!) NUT said weight watchers sized Snacks or treats are ok in moderation and I believe that includes crackers such as wheat thins as well Fruit juices with added sugar are forbidden for life really as are carbonated drinks like soda to my understanding WLS is a big time life changer if you want long lasting results. Good luck!!

    African American Sleevers

Nice to meet you Keisha!!! You have plenty of time to talk to post op folks and do research on pros and cons so I would suggest doing that during your wait time. Watching your food choices now is a great thing to do to cause you will likely be heavily restricted for a good 6 months post op (ie no rice no bread no fried foods limited caffeine no sweets no pasta). No way to really fully prepare for WLS but do realize that aside from the obvious risks and benefits of surgery it is a very very emotional journey. I'm only 22 days out but I've gone through tons of emotions ranging from relief to regret to frustration to sadness to unbelief and beyond. Best wishes to you!!
  19. ----You are Probably too early out to be concerned --I had the runs from day5-7 then regular poop a few days -- nothing for over a week, constipation for 4 days then finally after a few days on Colace capsules I got relief!!! Woohoo!!!!! I feel brand new (:
  20. My Nut says no fruit juices forever I believe -- only fresh squeezed with no added sugars eventually
  21. Praise God!! I had a bowel movement after 12 days of nothing and a good 4 days of constipation. I started 2 colace capsules per day on New Years. Hope everyone has gotten some movement recently!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

--- Really don't like those isopure clear drinks and I was hoping they would be my saving grace My doc office doesn't recommend Gatorade or powerades or anything else similar .. Simply water and protein shakes, broth, pops tea and jello, yogurt -- but can't really tolerate Much even water and warm tea creates discomfort after a while ... Takes me about 1.5+hours to finish 9oz of protein shake and 3.5 hours to get down 16oz of water I think of and miss real food but I'm nervous about the pain it will cause when mushy foods stage starts next week -- it's a very slow progress of returning to normalcy for me and I'm 22 days out I was a ball of energy before this surgery with no co morbidities at all and I'm 31 yrs old so my slow recovery is a bit of a shock I take and tolerate chewable vitamins but doubt they are doing much for me I'll continue to pray! Thanks for your concern and suggestions Hope all is well with you!
  23. Sarah started at 460 and is now about 230 a year post VSG
  24. --My NUT says no caffeine for a while not sure if its 6 weeks or 6 months -- there is a lot on the 6 month restriction list and a few on the 6week one I'm still constipated for the past 12 days now -- colace isn't helping so I may try warm milk per my mommy or MOM
  25. -- I've actually gone up to urine about 3-4x a day -- color is medium not too light or dark I do still feel lightheaded at times but I think I'm just not getting enough Protein and other nutrients I was in ER on day 11 for dehydration and that was the pits I'm 22 days out now and still feel weak; I'm extending my leave at work cause I don't think it would be wise for me to head back in my condition I want to focus on getting better and with the hernia pain it's a slow go for me Good luck to all
