Time To Goal and Amount of Loss?
jallsop replied to Scout1234's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Scout and Jenny, you were both so successful...would you mind sharing what a typical day was (is) like for you as far as the foods you eat and your exercise regime? Do you ever 'splurge'? Thanks -
Where are you having your sleeve? I live in Massachusetts and am having it at my local hospital.

How frustrating for you....The only recommendations I can provide come from me being a nurse (not from experience as I am still pre-op). Are you able to take fluids? If so, maybe try getting some Isopure Protein drink from GNC (lots of yummy flavors like grape, fruit punch etc). This is high in protein which obviously your body needs to loose weight but more importantly for you right now, the protein will aide your body to heal those infected surgical wounds. Also, I don't know if you can take this or not, but a probiotic will help to replace the healthy flora (bacteria) in your intestinal tract and maybe will help ease some of your nausea and possibly help to promote a bowel movement. You can get probiotic naturally from yogurt w/ active cultures (when/if you can tolerate it). I am thinking of you...this must be really tough. Hopefully once you finish that Bactrim you will start to feel better, that stuff is so great to treat the infection but can be really hard to tolerate. Good Luck.

I'm not there yet because I am still pre-op but have you tried unflavored protein powder such as Unjury? Maybe try adding it to a thinned cream soup or thinned mashed potatoes (if you want to go that route). I think this is probably going to be the hardest stage for me too. Good Luck!

I know nothing of Dr Kelly but I am being sleeved on 3/4 also!! Yay for us! Good Luck!

Embarrassing Question - What To Tell Casual Friends
jallsop replied to Karen W's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm in the same boat. I am choosing not to tell anyone other than my immediate family, two best friends and my boss. I do not want my co-workers and acquaintances from town watching to see what I loose or don't loose, what I eat etc. This is very private for me. I am telling everyone I am having my gall bladder out. The hiatal hernia repair, as mentioned by Recycled, is a good idea too. Good Luck -
Yuck :( protein shakes yuck :(
jallsop replied to Lisa1826's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought Isopure Protein drinks today at GNC. They are not Protein shakes but more on the lines of crystal light w/ tons of protein. They come in all sorts of flavors, I got Grape, some banana fruity mixture and fruit punch. I plan to use these post op. -
I cant drink those protein shakes ! Help
jallsop replied to Lisa1826's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I like EAS myoplex light. My favorites are strawberry and Cookies and Cream. vanilla is yummy too. I have the chocolate as well but its not my favorite. Are you pre-op or post -op? Are you able to add 'goodies' to your shakes yet...??? -
Weird Ear Symptom After Surgery?
jallsop replied to LumpySpacePrincess's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe your PCP could refer you to an ENT for further eval? Good Luck, I can see how that would be very frustrating. -
Unfortunately I don't have a lot of advice but I just wanted to say Congratulations!!! How exciting for you. I have had 3 children (I'm still pre-op, so obviously I was not sleeved when I had them) and I am a nurse so I have some thoughts. It seems to me that as long as you are getting adequate nutrition and fluids and your babe is growing well, there shouldn't be any problem. I had gestational diabetes with only my second pregnancy (out of three) and I actually lost weight as well because I was following such a strict diet. Personally, I don't think high calorie shakes are the answer...but who am I. Well good luck and again congrats. Keep us updated on this little miracle!!

I have a fairly physical job w/ lots bending, kneeling, lifting etc so I am actually taking 5 wks off. I really don't think I need that much time but I am going to take it so I can focus on the new me and have time to figure this whole thing out while healing. Good luck

6 days til my liquid diet starts
jallsop replied to lovinglife28's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did u have pre op nutritionist classes? Each program has their own guidelines unfortunately. I start my 14 day preop diet on Monday. I will have 5 EAS myoplex lite protein shakes a day, one serving of veggies, one serving of fruit and one serving of starch a day plus all the clear liquids I want (ff broth, sf Popsicles, sf jello, decafe coffee/tea w/out milk, creamer, sweetener etc and no carbonated beverages or alcohol). I plan on taking my one serving of fruit a day and adding it to one of my shakes with ice and making a smoothie in the blender. As far as your post op eating, that is very specific to what your nutritionist outlined for u. I will have clears only on day one and then clears and protein shakes from day 2 through 7. Day 8 I advance to soft foods ie: sf pudding, sf applesauce. Hope this helps. Good Luck!!!! -
Looks like I will be a late March Sleever
jallsop replied to Lisa00's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

BE SLEEVE IT OR NOT...14 DAYS UNTIL SURGERY!
jallsop replied to Unbesleeveable's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you have to follow a pre op diet? Maybe let yourself have ONE "last meal" and try to keep on track the best you can. Good Luck. I'm March 4th so I feel your excitement and nervousness! -
I'm actually taking 5 wks. I have a TON of sick time and I figured, why not....mine as well use it. I haven't had more than a week off at a time from work since my last son was born 4 yrs ago. I am a RN and I have a very physical job so I really want to be healed before going back.

Easy to drink Protein
jallsop replied to SoCal Sleeve's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have u tried Isopure? Sounds similar...?? -
net carbs and sugar alcohol?
jallsop replied to abarta83's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is really funny you ask this because I was just reading some pre-op diet info from my NUT before I logged on and read your question. It was talking specifically about sugar alcohols (usually end in 'ol', ie: sorbitol, mannitol) My NUT recommends avoiding them because sugar alcohols can cause gas, bloating, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Of course all things we do not want to risk having post op. Just some info I thought i would pass on.... -
Yes....I hope the next couple of months just fly by for you! My boys are 9, 6 & 4. Keep in touch. I'm sooooo nervous!

Getting Ready...Kind of
jallsop replied to SparkleCat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Quitting smoking is so tough! Been there! I know that my surgeon won't even do the sleeve unless someone has been "smoke free" for six months. I would allow that to be your focus right now and get over that hump. I couldn't imagine dieting and quitting at the same time. I used Chantix 3 yrs ago when I quit. Worked wonders for me, have heard lots say they didn't like it (nightmares, stomach upset). Maybe talk with your PCP about options for smoke cessation and maybe just focus on that. In the meantime you could try adding more protein to your diet and maybe cut calories slowly as mentioned by the last poster. Good luck! I know it's tough. If I could just follow a low calorie diet I wouldn't need this surgery!!!! Lol!! -
I'm March 4th too! Just waiting for the insurance approval.....it's so nerve wracking!
-
it really depends on your insurance and your surgeon's requirements. I think the above poster had her surgery with in 4 months from what I read. I have seen on here, some people's insurance have very minimal requirements and they have surgery very quickly. For me, my insurance (which seems fairly common) requires 6 months of supervised nutritional counseling. There are multiple other requirements as well. I started w/ a weight loss seminar on 7/5/13. From there I have had multiple meetings w/ my NUT (maybe 7-8) over a six month period. I also had to go to 5 support group sessions. I have had a sleep study, met w/ a neurologist, cardiologist, abdominal u/s, pre op lab work x 2, psych eval w/ one follow up appointment, two meetings w/ bariatric medical doctor, two meetings w/ my surgeon (third and final is tomorrow!) and ohhhh my I hope that is it. My surgery is scheduled for 3/4/14.

Welcome! I am a 37 year old mom of three young boys and my story is very similar to yours. Now that this body is done making babes, it's time to get it back!!! Surgery is scheduled for 3/4/14. Best of luck to you! I have learned sooooo much here and I'm sure you will too!
