  1. Sorry for the cross post. I think I narrowed it to much in Nutrition. Really looking for a second opinion from ANYBODY! How do you guys think I'm doing? I'm no longer using MFP (as of 10/27) to track my exercise/offset my calories. Thanks for the feedback on this in another thread I began! But now I'm worried that I've blown my first week!! I'm getting in 50-60 oz of liquid per day, and only using one Protein drink (10-17 oz) per day. I'm taking all of my meds/vitamins. At my 2 week postop with my surgeon yesterday, I'd lost 12 lbs. Total pre/post op = 46 lbs lost in 6 months. I'm walking about two miles per day, and doing vigorous chores like raking leaves. I walked up six flights of steps TWICE yesterday, and jogged for two blocks today! Don't go back to work until Nov 4. I sure would appreciate your feedback/expertise!!!! Smooth Recovery? Anyone?

Another easy ride here. My date was Oct 15, so i will be three weeks out in three days. I get in all of my meds and Vitamins, exceed my Protein using only one 10 oz p drink per day, and have three square pureed meals of 4 oz per day and a snack or two. Im slightly under fluids each day (drink 40-50 oz of Lifewater), but am not dehydrated. Walking 3-5 miles per day, and doing normal chores. Today, I'm painting outside window frames!!! Fyi, my go-to meals are soft boiled eggs or egg salad, pureed chicken and hummus, pureed tuna and mayo, thick Soups with added chicken, homemade chili, greek yogurt, baby oatmeal, cups of skim milk.... Great tip- when you are thirsty after you eat, but its too soon to drink, eat a sugar free popcicle!

What's the story behind your profile name?

By the way, we don't call it a "hooker" name; we call it a "drag" name. And mine is "Freddie Elk!" My wife's is awesome: "Brandy Redberry"

What's the story behind your profile name?

"outwithbenjiboi" is a handle I've used since 2005, when I came out of the closet to my family, friends and colleagues as a genderqueer, masculine-identified butch. "Ben" is the "boy/boi" I should have been, and the name of my inner child that I'm re-parenting into the strong butch that I am today. Benji -- the nickname for young Ben -- has been busting "out" in myriad ways my entire life. This surgery is just one more way that's happening. And my handle is the way I continually give credit to Ben for his courage and for all of the decisions that have made me whole. Everyone calls me "JB:" initials that stand for my given name + my chosen name -- "J"en/"B"en. Hope this doesn't blow too many minds.....

    Recipes for pureed foods

If you don't have time for the crockpot, it works pretty good to place a couple of pieces of frozen cooked chicken (diced, from a bag) in the microwave with a little bit of broth, wrap SNUGLY with Saran wrap, and nuke for about 1 minute. Holds all of the moisture in.

    October Sleevers - Who else

Yes! Walk as much as you comfortably can! I did at least a mile the day after I got out of the hospital, with my 81 yo dad and 76 yo mom by my side!

Somebody? ANYBODY? Are my calories too high?

Thank you so much everyone!!! Pjackson: Im on pureed now. I pretty much only eat protein: soft boiled eggs, pureed chicken or tuna, corned beef, skim milk, yogurt. My rule right now is "if it doesnt list Protein on the nutrition panel, i aint eatin it."

    Will you show me yours...?

The six months of documentation is what you have to amass over the NEXT six months with your PCP. For me (Federal BC/BS) it was only three months, but here's what I did: 1. Saw my PCP in April 2013 and gave him my entire weight narrative (fat kid, first diet at 13, attempts at weight watchers, 70 lb loss on Phen/Fen and subsequent regain etc etc) 2. Started meeting weekly with a dietician. We focused on portion control and 10,000 steps per day. She documented our weekly meetings and my progress, and sent all of these records to my PCP. 3. Met with my PCP monthly to be weighed and go over my plan, progress. 4. Met the pre-surgeon meeting requirements with my closest center for excellence (Johns Hopkins) 5. Met their criteria (sleep study, nutritionist, psych eval, gathering assorted other records from endoscopy, ob/gyn etc). 6. Made sure my dietician, PCP, and all other records got to my surgeon. 7. The specialist at my surgeon's office put the package together for submission to the insurance company. I got approved within one week.
