My bride had bypass surgery almost one year now and has lost @75 pounds and is off her diabetes medication. This was my incentive. I have had a heart attack, have migraines, have joint issues and became disgusted with just the difficulty bending over to tie my shoes and inability to lose weight. I attended all my bride's preop functions and was encouraged. Within 3 months from the first appointment with my surgeon's office and after quickly completing all the preop requisites, I was scheduled for gastric sleeve surgery. I had my surgery on a Wednesday morning and was home Friday evening. My bride has been encouraging me all along and gives me a lot of hints. I was really pleased after she had her surgery because she was such a "cheap date" (her words, not mine) since she usually just ate off my plate. Now we are going to be really cheap dates since we will be ordering from the appetizer menu and sharing when we go out to eat. Interestingly, we found that the child's menu is usually more expensive than ordering a half order from the adult menu, which most restaurants we have gone to will provide. I am almost 2 weeks postop, have lost 25 pounds and feel great. I still have a bit of tenderness around the larger incision where the stomach was extracted, but that is it. My bride has been making homemade soups and straining them for me. I should begin pureed diet next week.
All-in-all, with the exception of the tenderness and being colder than usual, I couldn't be happier with my decision to have the procedure. Losing the weight will help take the strain off my heart and joints, I have more energy and look forward to exercising, hopefully will not be plagued with migraines anymore and I feel much better about my personal appearance and my self esteem. I have 4 children and the most wonderful bride in the world and now I will be able to live longer for them.
I wish everyone who has had bariatric surgery and those anticipating having a procedure the very best of luck in their new lives.
