    Similar To Atkins?

I have successfully done Atkins as well. Lost 80 lbs and kept it off for about 3 years with the help of exercise. I was an exercise freak during that time. The thing that tipped me off the plan was emotional distress of a death in the family. I also found that Atkins was a bit restrictive at that time because truly you couldn't eat any carbs including fruit. I am a pre-op sleever and working my way to surgery and I have found that this surgery is restrictive in how much food you eat, plus, you can recognize your full limits. You can also have complex carbs so life doesn't have to end when it comes to eating. It's still a tool that you have to work at, but keeps the focus on knowing how to gauge when you are full, something that Atkins didn't do. Hope this helps.
  2. Today I visited with my nutritionist and shared with her my frustration in not having a clear process to date. My insurance only required 3 visits with the nutritionist but here I was at the 4th and according to their records, one of the nutritionist had me down for two more which would have been 6 total!!! I asked why so many times and they didn't have a clear answer except, committment to the process... What!?! What's not to commit to, I have done everything that...

i had a 1 hour visit with a nutritionist. and a nutritionist came to me when i was in the hospital to see if i had any questions. my doctor now does what a nutritionist would be doing. we discuss my food log and she gives me suggestions and recipes and even the places to shop for stuff she wants me to try.

      Bandista

Hi Blade, seeing mine today. Will be 4th visit -- 1st meeting assessing readiness, 2nd dole out pre-op shake, 3rd a pop-in at hospital before I went home, today is about transition to real food. Won't see her again until 3 month followup.

Thanks Terry and Bandista. We must speak up for fairness in the process and stay on top of them about what's next. I'm learning to politely stress concerns. It works!

    Support From Spouses

I think men/spouses in general will help and care until they see that you are fine and then they move on. My husband doesn't talk about the surgery much unless I bring it up to him (pre-op). Then he says that he is just concerned about me having surgery overall. So I know that he cares but I'm not letting it fool me into thinking that afterwards, maybe two weeks, it won't be life as usual either. That's just the way they are...

    Being Sleeved Tomorrow

    Eeeeeeeeeeee! Congrats! It'll be fine...
  6. No offense, but I think I need a break from this sites for a while. I'm considering a once weekly post instead of everyday or at least until my surgery date.

    Excessive Perspiration Post Sleeve?

Couild it be rapid weight loss?
  9. Just today from church, I thought to myself, 'self, am I serious about this because I am eating the foods that I will have to say good bye to?' I have heard that this is natural up to the point of the surgery for some. I seriously don't want to be the "some" I read about but if I am, I know that when it happens, my new stomach will force bad decisions to cease and desist. Two days on a liquid diet isn't bad. Good luck and see you in post-op land one day.

    Is It Me Or ....

Simpley, I think it's being on these post during pre-op. I'm reading more about it which is a good thing but I still don't have a date PLUS I have another NUT visit next week. DONE! I think I need to leave this board alone until I get a date.
  11. I have read a lot on this site and most people had to lose 25-50 lbs before their surgery. My nutritionist only wants me to lose 5 before the surgery. I never could understand why my requirements could be so different.

    Got My Date...but...

Mel, I am so sorry to hear about this. When did you start this journey? I ask because I began in August and still don't have a date, still going to a NUT visit, still waiting. It is hard to continue to diet for another month, but maybe you won't have to do it as intensely as you've done in the past.

    Attitude And Emotions

It changes often when I read that some people get a scheduled date in just 2-3 months and others in 6 months. Not know a clear process bothers me greatly, but I blow it out.
  14. Probably 1 month before going to the info session. Researched, and researched prior to that.

How Quickly Can I Drink Liquids

Yea, I wonder about this all the time. I am a Water chugger. Currently, I fill my 24oz bottle up and chug half, wait for about 30 minutes and chug the other half. In the evening, I fill a 32oz bottle twice and and I chug one and a half down during the evening. I do not sip my water and I am sure this will stop and I will have to learn another approach to getting my liquids in.

    Is It Just Me?

Cracking up over here!!! It's like when you buy a new car thinking that you have the best color and the newest, that all of a sudden, you see your car everywhere too much, hee, hee, hee
  17. I like to have fun, but honestly, I think you should have your thyroid checked. At least it would help you eliminate issues from the start. Plus, I have read before that we eat 3 meals a day to keep our metabolism revved up and for fat burn. It will be a necessity after the surgery so you don't go back in the hospital for something more serious.
  18. Girl, I was told that they want me to lose 5 lbs before surgery. So what did I do? I have been food honeymooning (eating everything I can find that I will miss) instead and now I have to lose 7 lbs. At this rate, if I don't get a date, I'm gonna need to lose 10 - 15 lbs. I asked her about that and she said everyone does it. People are saying goodbye to the foods they like most. Like today, since I had a rough day at work, I want to go to my favorite place Taco Bell and chow down on an Extra Grilled Stuffed Burrito. I'm an emotional eater. I know this. This will be my challenge when I have the surgery for sure. So with that being said, do you follow your doctors rules by eating 3 meals per day and quit smoking or do you do what you do to make it to surgery? I feel that I could easily do a liquid slim fast diet and drink a lot of Water and lose the 5lb that they want but I'm not willing to do that until I get approval from insurance or meet with the doctor for a date. Am I wrong by saying this? Maybe, but I know my body best. Good Luck with your decision!

Confused on what surgery to have

I actually took my husband with me to the info session and although I knew I wanted the sleeve, I wanted him to see and hear the information about all surgeries. He was the one that told me that if it were him he would go with the sleeve and his reasoning is because the band has ongoing procedures and it is something foreign in the body that could cause problems, the RNY is cutting in two areas and you're left with the stomach just staying there, plus all the dumping, etc., but the sleeve seemed to him to be a better option. I would have chose the sleeve without his input however.

    Severe bile reflux post sleeve

That doesn't sound quite right. I would have him see another surgeon if possible. Bile has a different color and if that's the case it's probably an infection. Great weight loss but what difference does it make if he feels sick all the time. Good Luck!

    Month No Date

That's fast! I went to my info session on Aug 14 and done everything else and still no date given. Be happy
