Is it a slip or just swollen?

Glad to hear your doing good and took the break for a week. I have been doing better, but staying away from basically all solid foods and I'm not having as many issues except for this past weekend, which now I'm curious if anyone else has had more pbing issues when you go to cold weather, I live in Phoenix and this is the second time this is happened to me when I've gone somewhere cold, like 30 degree weather, that like two bites of chili come back up, for memorial was up north in cold weather and had some chicken tortilla soup and after 2 bites it came back up, came home on monday to 80 degree weather ate the soup 1/2 cup no problem, so just curious if the cold weather makes a difference. Sounds weird I know, sometimes I wonder if it's my mind playing tricks on me.

Is it a slip or just swollen?

Glad to hear I'm not the only one, it's so frustrating somedays when one day I can eat something and the next day I can't and then having to explain to my son or husband why the food isn't staying down. My son asked me today mom when are you going to be able to eat regular food again, being I don't eat dinner with him and was wondering when I would. I told him that I can always sit and have my food with him but mommy can't eat the same foods anymore. But sometimes it's really frustrating. I ate some crab salad yesterday and was fine, just had some tonight and nope didn't stay down. I'm happy with my weight loss but not being to eat solids is getting to me today.

Is it a slip or just swollen?

I too have had some recent issues, I was banded 08/07/07 and I'm down 91lbs I have had 3 fills and 1 unfill which was back in 10/07. But since my last fill which was in 03/08 I have some more than usual PB and unable to eat a lot of foods, pretty much stay away from meats and just stick with soups and mushy foods, I was schedule for a fill this past week but I cancelled the appointment since I have had problems having certain foods go down. But one day I can eat something and the next I can't I have thrown up lately I mean it's just solid coming back up but I know I sometimes eat it to fast. But should I be concerned about slipage? I have a lot tummy rumbling, but no problems drinking the protein shakes or eating a protein bar and cottage cheese it's the solid foods? I haven't posted alot since joining and I too just wondering If I should be more concerned, I too am a self pay and god I hate to have it removed, I still want to lost another 60lbs. Any advice is appreciated too and willing to support anyone else going through the same thing. Julie

August Bandsters How are you Doing So Far

I was banded on 08/07/08 I'm down 91lbs, have had some complications, basically not being able to eat anything with starch so it has been tough, but from wearing a size 26/28 to being able to wear an 18 feels great, but when I look in the mirror I still see the big Julie, does anyone else feel that way? I mean my friends and family are like wow you look great, but It's hard I still see a fat Julie.

    A Problem

I too, have had issues with my band too! I was banded 08/07/07 and had my first fill in 09/25 and then had to have it released 1 week later, I couldn't keep anything down. What a relief to have it released. I then found out that I had 4cc and was told they only put 2cc, so a big difference. I waited until the end of October for my next fill and I was told that it's a tight fit being the smallest band and that I don't need as many fills, my problem is I would love to eat solid foods but I can't, if I try I pb and sometimes if I eat to much Soup I pb that too. I guess I'm frustrated that I won't ever be able to eat normal food again, I feel like I meant to eat only Protein shakes and let me tell you I sick of them. Julie

August Bandsters How are you Doing So Far

Hey all, haven't checked in for awhile. I was banded 8/7 and from date of surgery I'm down 50lbs. It hasn't been easy though, I had my first fill in september and a week later I had to go have the fill released, I couldn't keep anything down. I waited another 6 weeks for my second fill, which I got on 10/25, I have been having problems with lots of foods, pbing and all, which isn't fun, I get frustrated sometimes because I would like to eat solid food, but it just doesn't do well with me. Soups and mashed potatos are my food and you know you can only handle so much. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm not going to say I regret the surgery, because I don't it's just hard sometimes. Julie
  7. txsmile100, I to didnt know I was banded until my first fill, and the first experience wasn't great, I ended up having to have it released because I couldn't keep Water down a week after the fill, I waited another 6 weeks and had a fill on 10/25 and I pretty much am limited to Soups and mashed potatos, how did you find out if you caused damange? Thanks, julie

August Bandsters How are you Doing So Far

Hey ya all, I'm 2 weeks post op, I was banded on the 7th, and had my post op follow up yesterday and I'm cleared to go on soft foods now, so I tried a piece of turkey breast and nope not ready for it, but I did make a taco soup with ground turkey, black Beans, tomotoes, cream of chicken soup, fajita season and it went down find, and it tasted good, I could only eat a 1/2 cup I tried to eat a little more but stomach said no! Everyday is getting easier, just walk, walk a lot. I'm down 39lbs since 7/22 so I know the walking is helping. Hope everyone keeps up the good work! Julie

CK, my prayers are with ya! Just keep positive and good things will come! Good Luck to all this week, I'm 5 days out and feeling better everyday, the pain the center of chest is the hardest to get use too! Plus my stomach is very itchy, I'm bruised but not at the incisions at the different areas I have to do heparin shots 3x a day. But it's getting easier everyday, I go back to work on Tuesday, little nervous but also exicited to be out of the house for then a couple of hours. Well good luck to everyone this week! And lets keep in touch! Julie

    Post op discomfort

Ok, I'm out 5 days, and the gas pains sit right in the chest, but if I get up and walk it feels a little bit better, the liquids are starting to go down easier for me, I lot hot decaf tea and chicken broth with some Mrs. Dash to spice it up. Ice cold water hurts the chest to much. But I believe the walking is what is the key! I go back to work on Tuesday, sit at a desk all day, so I told them I need to get up every hour and walk.

    Bruising

I have some mild bruising on the incisions, but my biggest bruises are from the heparin shots I have to give myself. But the port one is where the biggest bruise is, my doctor told me that it was ok. I don't know what looks worse, where they tried to put an IV in me on my arm and failed or my stomach. Julie

Well, it has been 4 days since being banded and I'm doing good, felt pretty good today went and walked the mall for about 2hrs, we sat, but the food courts no one had soup so I sat and watched my son and SIL eat, watching other people doesn't bother me, I mean I would love to chew something is my big thing. I want variety and you don't have much with broth, Jello, Protein drinks. Looking for any good ideas for the second stage of foods if anyone has an idea pureed ya know. Still have lots of rumbling from the gas, can't wait for that to go away. Go back to work on Tuesday, so just going to have to make myself get up and walk because it does feel best. I'm bruised pretty good, not so much the incisions but the heparin shots have bruised me, pretty itchy today, butterfly strips haven't fallen off yet, but getting close. Still sleeping in recliner, tried laying in bed not as comfrontable so we will wait. Well everyone keep up the good work and if any one has good suggestions for pureed food let me know. Julie
  13. Well today is the 3rd day home and I'm feeling good, sore, but walking is what feels best, but of course it's 108 here in Phoenix today so almost to hot to walk outside. Just lots of rumbling going on in the stomach, can't wait till that is over. But over all feel pretty good. I believe and know I made the right choice and I'm here for anyone who needs a shoulder to lean on! Julie

    Banding On August 7th

I too, was the 7th, at home today on the 8th, feeling like I have done a million crunches. I too was a self pay, my insurance didn't cover it, I don't regret that I'm a self pay just wish I would of done it sooner. Finding it hard to believe that it takes me at least 30 minutes to drink 5oz of Protein shake, but I guess that is good. Hope your both recovering good, would love to stay in touch and compare and be supportive. Julie
  15. Banded August 7th, home today 8/8. Feeling pretty good, have a scratchy voice and feel like I have done a million crunches. Not hungary, can't believe that it takes me 30 to 45 minutes to drink 5oz of Protein shake, but it does. Walking feels the best to me, so I get up every hour to do it, I took a two hour nap and was pretty stiff so It will be interesting in the morning. It's all worth it, I wouldn't change anything, for all of you waiting, my biggest thing to say to you all is, IT'S SO WORTH IT! I plan to keep you all posted. And would love to hear other stories. GOOD LUCK Everyone! Julie

Well I was banded yesterday 8/7, I was schedule for 12:30pm but I didn't get in until 4:30 pm and once in recovery I was up and walking in 30 minutes and it felt much better to walk than sit or lay. I stayed the night which was nice, I was home by 10:30am today, a little sore in the stomach area, I feet like I did a million crunches, and I'm doing lots of belching. I was just glad after recovery to have something to drink, since I had nothing since 9:30pm on the 6th. Hot decaf tea, it felt good to sip going down. Went for a walk with my son this afternoon, felt good to get around and out of the house. It's strange that you can really only take sips and that 5oz of Protein shake can take 30 to 45 minutes to complete but it's true. Will keep all updated, love to hear about everyone else too! Julie

    Hey Everyone

Shauna, Congrats on the weightloss that is awesome! I'm feeling much better, down to the wire, schedule for 8/6 at 12:30pm. The pre-op diet is going good, I'm actually finding myself not hungary and forcing my self to do the protein shakes. I lost 13lbs from starting it on the 23rd to this past monday, when I went in and saw Dr. DeBarros, so I was shock, I hope I can drop of few more. I would love to hear how your recovery was and any suggestions you might have. I love to hear other peoples sucesses, so keep me posted. Take care, Julie

    Hey Everyone

Nichole, Hi, my name is Julie and I'm scheduled for my surgury on 8/7 preop is 7/30 and I'm on my 5th day of liquid, which I've been sick for 3 of the 5 days so it hasn't been so bad yet. I like how much information you give into your process, and my mom actually lives up in Ft. Defiance also and works at the clinic in Saunders, she is a nurse practioner there. She is supporting my fully on this procedure and so is my husband. But I love to hear more about your recovery and your journey through this new life. Hope all is going well for you. Julie
