Hi everbody,
Thank you for taking the time to check out my profile!! :-)
I am 38 years old, married to the most wonderful man in the world (my darling Thomas) and I practice as a forensic mental health nurse. Through my whole life, the only thorn in my side has been my inability to achieve a body weight within a healthy range. It has driven me around the bend at times and exhausted much too much of my time and energy.
I had attended an information session about the Gastric Band in about 2004/2005 and I left that meeting very motivated to go without such a procedure. I went on to lose about 65 pounds and boy did I feel sensational. Sadly, it didn't take to long before I out back on about 40 pounds and since then I have bounced up and down. At this point, I am feeling like life and my age are coming against me big time.
My gorgeous husband had a very serious health scare last year...he suffered a serious stroke. As a consequence of this, Thomas lost his speech and has impaired mobility. This has really impacted on our life and made me realise the importance of health. I have been trying to lose some weight...to no avail. :-(
In early July, my father's doctor suggested to him that he consider bariatric surgery because he is overweight too and has developed Type II diabetes. So he had a chat to me about it and then I started thinking about it too. Before I knew it (and after a little research) we booked our surgery consultation. And now we are both booked for surgery. I am on for November 14 and my father is on for November 28th. How cute...our own little support group!! :-) Sometimes I wonder if he really appreciates the amount of effort required to do this and I imagine him being like a little...or make that big fluffy angora rabbit in the headlights once it happens. (Please google 'angora rabbits' in images to see a picture...they are so cute/funny). However, I think men think about it a little different to us women.
I am so lucky in that I don't seem to have developed any specific health concerns secondary to being overweight but I did have my gall bladder removed in 1998...way too early. Given my father's Type II diabetes I am sure I would go on to develop that before too long. One of my primary reasons for taking this big step is to get into a healthy weight range so that I can carry our first child without worring that my weight would put either of us at higher risk. After the GS my next priority is a baby....my husband and I are very excited about that. My two nieces (teenagers) are seriously on our case...they want little cousins. I hope they like babysitting!! LOL
Enough for now...I will update a little more soon!!
