Talk me off the ledge!
alwayshungry replied to Wags's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sugar addiction behaves similar to nicotine addiction. Do you smoke? A couple of things happen. When you eat that "feel good drug" (sugar) in your brains releases the feel good chemical and then the chain starts. You want to keep feeling good so you keep doing what you know that makes you feel good. The thing is..... ITS A TRICK! It does NOT really make you feel good. It makes you feel bad and sick and like you failed. Then you want to feel good again so you eat more sugar! Just being able to wrap your head around what is really going on in our complex minds can help us to defend ourselves. Like I said.... first things first.... REMOVE YOURSELF OR THE BROWNIES FROM THE AREA. FILL UP ON WATER. BRUSH YOUR TEETH. Allow yourself to admit that YES, you would like to have it, but NO you will not have it. You will not be a slave to a freaking brownie. Just reaching out on here like you did is a sign of wanting to not fail. Go for a walk. Whatever it takes. Don't use the fact that you already had cheesecake to justify having a brownie. Set a goal.... Stay within your calorie range and workout routine for a week and reward yourself with ONE small low fat or healthy made brownie at the end. Give yourself something to look forward too. Now, get off the ledge! -
You have to do something to "shock" your system. Different workout. New diet plan.

Stop stop stop and REGROUP. Sugar is an addiction and I happen to be an addiction counselor. Walk away. Go brush your teeth. Have a glass of water and chew a piece of gum. Then, realize that a slip does. NOT have to turn into a full blown fall! You ate the cheesecake. It's done and you can't change that but you CAN change the thought of the next meal you will have. -

B12 and I still have a little coffee. It does not bother me. I put very very very little sugar in it (maybe a 1/2 teaspoon) and some skim milk. -

What is your diet like? -
That's terrible and nothing about it is normal! Do NOT let them tell you otherwise. Extreme vomiting is not normal. Have a seat in the lobby and stay there until they do something else. That's terrible medical care. Sorry to hear.

Can anyone else eat whatever they want? Pizza? Bread? It doesn't seem to bother me?

Thank you for the encouragement.

That's how I feel. I am an addictions counselor and I know exactly what I am doing but my addiction is strong. I have to figure out how to be stronger. I was hoping that surgery would disable my ability to eat so much and take away the desire, but it looks like that is not the case.

I am only 2 months in. I'm discouraged. I can't imagine what I will be eating like at 9 months if I can eat like this now. ugh. :-/
-
Not really. I try to get it in but sometimes it seems to not fit without being uncomfortable.

I'm Starting to wonder if it was a lot of surgery just to lose 20/30 lbs. I'm never full. I just ate 4 Protein granola bars. WTW?!?
-
What is RNY? I was sleeved on 8/23 and I don't feel that I am losing enough. I still eat a lot, just like the surgery never happened.

I am still trying to figure out how the forum works and how to follow posts. I'm afraid I will eat to much and fail. I'm keep having dreams that I wake up fatter than I ever was. My biggest size was 22. I now wear a 16! That feels great. I am 41, so my skin is not as youthful as before and I see some sagging and stretch marks. That really freaks me out. I don't want to be thin but still have to hide my body. I always feel hungry too and worry that I won't reach my goal weight.
