I am 46 years old. Married to my wonderful hubby for 16 years. We have 2 boys ages 8 & 12. They are the light of my ife and the ultimate reason I have decided on bariatric surgery. I was diagnosed with PCOS in my late 20's and have struggled with weight gain ever since. I am short about 5'2" and I hit my heaviest weight this summer 197# I told myself I would never hit 200#. I struggle with fibromyalgia, HTN, PCOS, GERD, depression, and was just diagnosed this summer as pre-diabetic with high cholesterol. My family physician wanted to add diabetic and cholesterol meds to my already long list of medications. I explained to him that I wanted to persue bariatric surgery. I have been on every diet out there. Weight Watchers 5 times! I would lose 20-30 pounds and then fall off the wagon. Gain that weight and then some back. With my fibromyalgia I have struggled with not being able to really exercise due to more bad days than good. Walking is about the only exercise I can tolerate at this weight. I am ready to be healthy for myself and my family. My bariatric sugery search lead me to BMI of Texas, and I have found the most wonderful team of doctors, nurses, dieticians. My insurance required me to see a dietician for 3 months, and meet with a behavioral health specialist several times. I completed all of the appointments. Had an endoscopy. Dexa scan all part of the teams protocol. My surgeon felt I would benefit from the gastric by-pass or sleeve. And he said he could repair my hiatal hernia during the procedure. Well, long story short insurance approved the vertical sleeve gastrectomy last week. My surgery is scheduled for October 29th and I could not be more ecstatic with how things are progressing. I started my 2 week pre-op diet on Tuesday Oct. 15th. Here we go ! :-)
